NATO is one thing, the war in Ukraine is another. Putin hasn't gotten more interested in negotiations just because of, or despite, Trump. There are signs that he's running out of money to fight his war as a Ukrainian Intel honcho had predicted two years ago. Russian banks are already choking on Russian bonds that they had to buy because they couldn't be sold outside Russia. Russian sovereign funds kept in reserve for rainy days, which this is becoming, are draining steadily in 2025. Right now, Putin has a choice, endure a humiliating and probably lethal bankruptcy or utilize hyperinflation to keep the wheels from falling off…for now. The latter is what he'd choose if he has to, but it will bring its own dangers to Putin. This is why it'd be tragic if Trump snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against Putin.Werewolf said:No. No we should not. pic.twitter.com/nV48nw3cjj

Yes, their enactment has caused a lot of harm to the country. We've had horrible Presidents these past few decades but going back more than a century, Woodrow Wilson was just as bad.caryking said:GP, even though the amendments are part of the Constitution, I do think there are areas that fall outside the intent of the Constitution:GuerrillaPack said:

Im gonna somewhat disagree about NATO and Ukraine war being different. Ukraine threatening to join NATO is a big reason that war is going on. Look at whats happened to the countries that joined NATO after the USSR collapse, particularly old Soviet states.Oldsouljer said:NATO is one thing, the war in Ukraine is another. GOP lawmakers are being slammed for denying that their budget saves $880 billion over the decade from Medicaid, and for applying those savings to tax cuts rather than deficit reduction.

Republicans should instead explain that saving $880B can be smart policy if done right.🧵

From the Twitter thread:
"Medicaid could save up to $720B over the decade by reforming or killing the Medicaid provider tax gimmick (MPTG).
States set up Medicaid programs and then DC reimburses between 50% (rich states) and 83% (poor states) of state expenses.
But states use the MPTG to make it look like they are spending more on Medicaid and thus claim extra, unearned federal reimbursements. Its basically fraud.
Medicaid could save $650 billion by better standardizing reimbursements across populations.
When the ACA expanded Medicaid to healthier, higher-earning, able-bodied adults, it also offered states a 100% (and now 90%) federal reimbursement for this group - which exceeds the reimbursement rate for kids, seniors, disabled, and low-earning adults.
We can keep this new population Medicaid-eligible, but there's no reason for adult-bodied, higher-earning adults to get preferential treatment over more vulnerable populations. Reset them to the other reimbursement rates.
Medicaid could save up to $160 billion over the decade by reversing a Biden-admin rule limiting how often states can verify that their Medicaid recipients are still eligible. This should be a no-brainer. If someone is no longer eligible (income rise?), they should graduate off.
These are just 3 of many reforms to save $880B from Medicaid. Yes, limiting reimbursements may create some holes for states to fill -but the provider tax is fraudulent, 90% reimb rate for healthy adults is a pointless windfall - and eligibility verification will save states $."

So you are saying get rid of Medicaid, and replace it with a state version of the program? And you don't see why that's stupid?caryking said:SmaptyWolf said:

Just a dumb post! No one is saying to get rid of Medicaid; rather, it should be a fully State supported program…
Debate that! Don't pull out stupid points that are irrelevant!
