On the importance of having versatility in the tight end room...

Very important to have just a group of guys who are all super close and who each have different assets that are good for the room. I think we bond together really well.

You talked about the blocking aspect. I mean, how much pride do you take in that?

I take a lot of pride in it, yeah. That's what, coming from Montana, that's what we did. We ran the ball there, so that's what I got very good at over there: front blocking, for sure.

Which coach reached out to you first when you entered the portal?

Coach Locke (Locklear). Coach Locke reached out first, sent me a text, somehow got my number, and then I called him about 10 minutes later.

What's your relationship been like with him since you got here?

It's been very good. Coach Locke is a dude who's going to push you. He's going to demand the best from you every day, and I respect that from him. But it's my relationship with him that's been great.

With all the talent that you have in the running back room, do you take pride in being a good blocker?

Oh yes, yeah. I'm very, I take a lot of pride in run blocking, for sure. Really, just how the O-line, how the tight ends perform, really just reflects on the running backs and how great of a season they're going to have.

How do you like the rest of the guys in the tight end room?

I like them a lot. We got a really good bond. We're a super close group. We hang out outside of football all the time. During the summer, we're doing a lot of stuff together, golfing, fishing, so yeah, we're a tight group.

And what's it like to play for a quarterback like CJ?

It's different. I didn't believe it until I got here and I saw him through the ball, and I was like, yeah, this guy's different. So it's honestly an honor to play for him.

What are you looking for most in your first game against Virginia?

I'm looking for a win. It doesn't matter. I'm not searching for personal stats or anything as long as we get that win. I do my 1 of 11 through my job to help us win that game.

Have y'all started prep for that game yet, or are you still just going through normal fall camp stuff?

We're still going through normal fall camp stuff.
