Fentanyl use is already down, overdose death are down 15%. But hey, it will be harder to smuggle fentanyl into the country, which will push the price up. It's a win win for the cartels, they push back into Opioids, and they still make the same profit! The deaths will remain the same, just different drugs will be the cause.

So the Cartels could give two ****s about tariffs, they give two ****s about the "hit squads" Trump has threatened to send after the "kingpins" too. There aren't anymore real Mexican drug kingpins, and these guys aren't in a line of work where they expect live long anyways, so that isn't going to work either.

All that will happen is that stuff will become more expensive, and all you are doing is punishing American companies and consumers.

I have a question for you, since you love tariffs. The tariff on Chinese manufactured goods, great, right?

Well let's use Apple as an example. They outsource almost 100% of the manufacturing. They keep all the good paying jobs in the US - the R&D folks, the marketing people, the sales folks, all the great paying jobs are in the United States.

Who does the tariff benefit most? Well Apple's Korean owned and operated competitor, Samsung, who also outsources their manufacturing, just not in China, and keeps all the high paying jobs in Korea.

I hear your next argument! Apple should stop manufacturing in China! Good idea! Except, the Chinese manufacturers will just move the minimum amount of pieces and parts made in China to manufacturing in Vietnam. So you don't change anything other than the place is assembly.

Well, we could move manufacturing to the US! How much of the product manufactured is actually made in America - ie the pieces and parts? So, all you've done now is moved the assembly of a widget and slapped an "American Made" sticker on it. But the tariff on imported pieces and parts and the additional cost of assembly is just passed onto the consumer. Say it with me - not everything manufactured in an American factory is made in America!

Oh, we can then just insist on everything meet a Buy American FAR clause! Well, I can tell you with experience, working on federally funded projects, you almost triple the cost of a construction project because of the Federal Buy American FAR clause.

Why do you hate American Companies and consumers so much?

Connecting these dots, can it be hard? Too difficult for #daGobbler but what else is actually new?

I don't understand why this is not getting more attention? The democrats are literally trying to create the biggest mess possible for President Trump and it's dangerous for the entire world.

These people are angry, vindictive and would rather have war than hand over power.

Hokie, I think you summed up the manufacturing process fairly well. Hopefully, the tariffs will start to change once the Trump admin realizes what you outlined.

I follow certain industries and their manufacturing. You are correct, countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, etc are now the final part of the manufacturing process. I call it the cut and sew and/or final assembly. You are correct, the parts are still made in China.

It's those parts that I want moved to the US. The cut and sew and/or final assembly will come, once companies realize that is close enough on margins to do the entire product manaufacturing, in the US. Additionally, I think we will see a big push, by consumers, to start buying more from the US. China has negative vibe about it right now. Plus, Money people are also recognizing the negativity in China and are advising companies to limit their exposure in China.

So, why is this meaningful to me? I see people (blue collar people) sitting on their front porch, not working. The problem is that they don't have jobs to work. They will never be white collar workers, in fact, they enjoy the manual nature of that work. I know! I have a bunch of family members that will never be a white collar worker. It's not what drives them. They are stuck in the jobs that are availble to them. We need more options for people that like to do that kind of work.

Now, I hate to tell you…. Classic liberalism has lost its panache…. A little bit of MAGA, and little bit of Classic Liberalism.

The state of Sino-Vietnamese relations isn't good and getting worse thanks to worsening disputes about the Paracels/Spratly islands, they may need to find another locale to outsource to.
