Does this stance change at all with the court documents coming out today that stated that the protestor were welcomed into the capital building?

Also, hasn't it been proven that she wasn't even in the building, or anywhere near it, on Jan 6? She was in no danger of harm at all. She tried this before and was proven a liar. Which is example #432 of the democrats saying whatever they want and nobody (looking at you media) calling them out in it.

my guess this is for all vehicles and wil be on top of the gas tax

Given the assumption these taxes are to pay for roads, mileage and gas tax are both inferior to a tire tax. 18 wheelers cause the vast majority of road damage.
We also would have less trucking in general if we could finally get rid of the Jones Act.
Yea, I'm not understanding how we are going to have less road damage, by truckers, if we repeal an act regarding ports... help me on that one...
The Jones act makes artificially raises the cost to to ship between US ports. As a result, a lot of stuff is trucked across the country that could have gone on a cargo ship in a free market. That would result in less trucking overall and lower transportation costs for business.
Just curious... how would you see Amazon move back up inventory from one location to another?

Dear god.

You sure about that? We have a country with two sides who's beliefs are diametrically opposed to the other with one of those sides pretty sure that the people who end up being elected to represent them don't have any interest in that.

The democrat side is going more towards socialism every day....they picked Bernie Sanders as the committee chair on the budget for god sakes. Biden has reached the "i know it's unconstitutional but what is anyone going to do about it" part of his presidency 7 months in. We've got the congress actively attempting to create a national police force with the capital police setting up offices in California and Florida.

The justice system is turning into a "who does the decision impact" branch of the government. If you don't believe me lets look at the way the protestors from 1/6 have been treated as compared to the DC protestors last year.....or to how the folks who tried to burn down DC were treated when Trump was inaugurated in 2017. The folks who participated and have been arrested on 1/6 aren't being allowed to see family, meet with attorneys on a regular basis, and being held for months without being able to be with other people in jail at all. The folks who set a Secret Service building on fire at the grounds of the white house last year, injured 30-40 secret service agents, and tore down several of the fences protecting the white house weren't treated that way at all.

We are getting bureaucratic parts of government who weren't elected at all dictating policy that is violating our rights as a population and don't have to answer for it at all. If you don't believe me take some time to watch Fauci's testimony with Jim Jordan or Ran Paul

The media is a propaganda arm for the democratic party at this point, everyone knows about it and everyone laughs about it.

The politicians and a lot of the "connected" people in this country have quickly turned to the "let them eat cake" phase of things. Just look at Obama's party over the weekend....hundreds of people there not wearing mask enjoying live to their hearts content all while a the writer for the NY Times argues that Obama's party is different then other people getting together because of who it is. Don't forget that while Obama's party is going on some of the people are the same folks running the government telling you that you have to wear two mask, you shouldn't be sending your kids to school, you shouldn't be going to work, and if your a landlord you should be able to collect rent from your tenants....

You've got Antifa and Black Lives Matter running around burning down cities at any perceived slight, all while the politicians who support those groups are working to defund the police. The same politicians who are taking the police funding away are spending obscene amounts of money on their armed, private security staff with your tax dollars. Don't forget the same people want to take away the ability for you to defend yourself by getting rid of the second amendment.

You don't have to take my word for any of it...you can look it all up in the papers and media reports or listen to politicians themselves....How long do you think we can continue to go this route without some sort of massive upheaval? Just look at other societies historically before you answer that....we're a whole lot closer than you think.....

Typical knucklehead! Nobody wants a civil war; well, at least people I spend time with. That being said, the civil society we've enjoyed is going down the toilet.

Chem, we have people in jail, for 6 months that only went into the Capitol. BTW, I don't consider them trespassers. Now, unlike some that believe no damage was done, well, I disagree. I believe some bad happened...

Now, the real investigation should be on the FBI. Go look at the events during the Michigan Governor debacle. Fact: of the 18 militia organization people plotting to kidnap the Governor and March on the Capitol, well, 12 were FBI informants or possibly FBI agents. This was nicely contrived by the FBI...

$3.5 Trillion Budget Reconciliation Package Includes Mass Amnesty for Millions of Illegals

https://amgreatness.com/2021/08/10/3-5-trillion-budget-reconciliation-package-includes-mass-amnesty-for-millions-of-illegals/

Quote:

The $3.5 trillion spending package will provide $107 billion for the Senate Judiciary Committee to determine the fastest route for providing blanket amnesty, with a deadline of September 15th to come up with such a solution. The bill itself does not single out any particular group of illegals or preferred methods, but instead orders the committee to provide "lawful permanent status for qualified immigrants," as well as handing out green cards to "millions of immigrant workers and families."

New proposals put forward by Democrats in the House of Representatives have also called for giving amnesty to illegals who work on farms, illegals who hold jobs that have been declared "essential" during the pandemic, and illegals who have already been granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS). This would ultimately account for roughly 10 million illegals who would immediately be given amnesty under the new plan.

The Jones act makes shipping between US ports more expensive as it requires vessels to be American built, owned and operated. This means they do not have to compete with foreign shipping.
The result is less competition and increased transportation costs when goods need to be moved between American ports. There are also many who argue that the lack of competition has led to our domestic shipping being static and not very competitive internationally.

Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and Alaska (to a lesser extent due to land border with Canada) bear most of the burden as they are reliant on shipping to bring almost everything in, making material goods more expensive. However is also raises shipping costs within the continental US because it could make a manufacturer choose to truck something From California to NC instead of putting it on a cargo ship.

This isn't a left/right thing either. Republicans have traditionally been the main supporters of repealing the Act. You can find artciles in Cato, Heritage, etc. arguing why it's terrible policy. It has survived due to strong union support and the rest of America not knowing what it is.

I can't help but be disappointed that the GOP couldn't hold on to the two GA runoff Senate seatsif only the focus had been on the two candidates there, it might have been different, amd we'd have been spared this

I know you keep suggesting that.....and I've learned to never say never about anything in this cray world we liv in.

But, if that did happen...it would be the biggest news story since, Watergate? JFK? It would be beyond huge for a presidential and/or senatorial election to be stolen. Careers made. Awards galore. Ratings windfall.

I know, and fully accept there is huge Trump-hate amongst big chunks of the media....but feel hard-pressed to believe that at least a couple of enterprising mainstream journalists woudl run hard with this, if there were enough smoke there. Who knows....they can only talk about Covid for so long, but still.....

Chem, you really think the media cares one bit about election integrity? Those are the same people who said we had peaceful protest last summer!

I have never been an Alex Jones type person. I truly believe the integrity of our elections (not just 2020) are missing. Here's a question for you: when the results of Maricopa County come out and they show significant fraud, will you start listening?

I don't believe that for a second. Just look at how Hunter Biden was treated by the media last year with the laptop being stolen, tossing away loaded guns into trash cans, getting strippers knocked up, and making sure the big guy got his 10%....the media by large ignored it and if anyone did try to report on it they were blocked by every form of social media for bringing it up.

The New York Post tried to run an article about Biden's kid in October right before the election and every social media network took it down and blocked the Post from accessing their accounts until twitter decided to that it was OK to report on such things again. The hell of all of this was that as it turned out the reporting by the Post was correct!

The reason that was given was that the Post was using hacked materials and it wouldn't be allowed on the sites....but by the same token when Trump's tax returns were hacked and leaked it trended on social media for a week and was reported on every major news network.

I firmly believe that the article, which detailed how Hunter Biden set up meetings between Joe Biden and the Ukrainian Gas firm that Hunter was working for would of impacted the votes of some people. The media likes to throw out these huge numbers to say that Biden won decisively, but in all reality he won three swing states by a grand total of 43K votes that game him the election.

My argument here it is two-fold. One is that by not allowing a major news outlet to run an article that was extremely damaging to Biden right before the election it could of very well of changed the election. The other is that because not a single news outlet other than the Post decided to run with it because it was damaging to Biden so you can't sell me on someone else would or run with it, because they didn't.

I'll also point out that this shows the way that the media is willing to go all in on one candidate to try and destroy them and not run anything negative about a candidate that they agree with politically. Look at the way that Trump was treated from the second he announced up through now and the way that Biden was treated and continues to be treated. We all know if the names were reversed and it was one of Trump's kids that did all of the things that Hunter Biden did it would be on every news network for weeks and weeks...especially that close to the election. Instead we get crickets because it is Joe Biden's kid

Not sure about integrity....but I know they care about ratings, and self-importance (most seem to be very arrogant). This would be the story of a lifetime.

Sure, if some major county comes out and there is hard-fast evidence...thats a game changer. But that doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Thanks for your thoughts and kind words BBW. I think I speak for everyone in this room when I say your thoughtfulness, empathy, and unwavering focus on respectful, meaningful dialogue is a true model for the rest of us.

After inflation dipped to essentially zero last year and with two rounds of significant stimulus, short-term inflation was inevitable as the economy and prices rebounded. Controlling inflation was a concern secondary to economic recovery. The agonizingly slow pace of the recovery from the Great Recession played a prominent role in this mindset; doing too little was seen as a far greater sin than doing too much to spur the economy.

Inflation seemed to peak last month; smart monetary policy and legislation that doesn't further spur inflation will be key over the coming months/years.

They'll get some right and others wrong, same as every other administration.

I also don't know what you consider to be "right[ing] the ship"; if you're talking about the economy the ship is upright in the water, but tenuously so. Unemployment is down, GDP is back up, and consumer spending is back to pre-pandemic levels after contracting last year. But, continued economic growth and stability over the coming months is critical to keeping it upright and pointed in the right direction.

I agree generally with the lessons learned from the Great Recession, and with the general sentiment that doing too little to stimulate the economy was the greatest short-term risk during COVID. It was certainly greater than inflation risk, or greater than the risk of even greater deficit spending. Nobody cares about inflation or an imbalanced budget when you've got negative GDP growth and high unemployment.

My biggest concern right now continues to not be inflationary, it's that the economy wanes if consumers get spooked due to COVID not declining as rapidly or as linearly as we all hoped post-vaccine rollout. A third round of stimulus is likely not prudent monetary policy and is likely politically unpalatable anyway so there's not much of a safety net where we are. We need the economy to continue organically recovering, without the aid of further stimulus, and the fed needs to keep a close eye on inflation and adjust monetary policy accordingly.

That said, we're to the point in the recovery where inflation has to become an increasing focus, as does government spending.

I'm a builder and commercial landlord so I straddle the fence with the COVID economy. Demand for our single family and multi-family product has been extremely high throughout, for which I'm very grateful but our commercial office business has taken a real beating and will continue to do so until companies and people are comfortable being back in offices again. The office landscape may be forever changed and we don't need or expect it to return to pre-pandemic demand, but right now true office occupancy (actual butts in seats during the day) is not more than around 30%-40% of what it was pre-pandemic, and that's largely due to continued personal and corporate desire to stay home until COVID is further in the background. Office demand will continue to be artificially low until COVID is less of a worry for workers and companies.

I think vaccines are the biggest weapon we have to combat the economy potentially cooling or not recovering fully if consumer and corporate behavior are impacted by COVID later this year and into 2022. So I also am very supportive of the Biden administration's focus on and support for continued vaccine adoption.

I think the focus on infrastructure and getting a bipartisan bill passed was good in theory but the bill is much too broad and expensive.

I think a high focus on renewable energy development and jobs growth is productive but I don't see the need to cut our legs out from underneath ourselves with domestic oil production, which provides us economic and national security benefits.

Basically I'm not universally supportive of any administration's work or policy but I think Biden's gotten more broad-brush stuff right than wrong. Details matter though and we've got multiple concerns to address in coming months with vaccination, spending, inflation, etc.
