Democrat rep calls for quarantine to observe those refusing vaccines
VILLA PARK - Villa Park State Rep. Deb Conroy (Democrat) wants to "isolate or quarantine persons who are unable or unwilling to receive vaccines, medications, or other treatments."
HB 4640 is scheduled to be heard in the Illinois House Human Services Committee February 2 at 9:00 AM.
If HB 4640 were to become law, persons exposed to an infectious disease could be placed under Public Health Department observation, only possible in a contained atmosphere with Department watch guards, some suggest such as a concentration camp.
The bill says:Quote:
To prevent the spread of a dangerously contagious or infectious disease, the [Public Health] Department may, pursuant to the provisions of subsection (c) of this Section, isolate or quarantine persons whose refusal to undergo observation and monitoring results in uncertainty regarding whether he or she has been exposed to or is infected with a dangerously contagious or infectious disease or otherwise poses a danger to the public's health.
Quote:
"Yet even as it maps out the next stage, the White House has ruled out making a splashy show or major announcement regarding a hard pivot back to normalcy. There is fear among aides over repeating last year's July Fourth "freedom from the virus" celebration an event that turned politically disastrous weeks later when the Delta variant fueled a swift resurgence of the pandemic. And though it faces pressure to back off some of its more notable and onerous public health policies, the administration is also unlikely to drop its indoor masking recommendations, which are seen as among the key tools for preventing new outbreaks."
"Officials instead described plans for a more subtle shift over the next several weeks toward touting Biden's achievements in rolling out vaccines and treatments and emphasizing the everyday things that people can do again if they're vaccinated an approach that multiple individuals familiar with the response described as an attempt to convince people they'll soon be able to relax after two years ruled by Covid-19."
Omicron meet Gibraltar, one of the world’s most vaccinated nations. Gibraltar has vaccinated ~99% of its total population. 🇬🇮

Of course it is... that's how they came to power. We have a big election this year and an even bigger one in 2024. Look for the same tactics to be used as were in 2020 all in the name of covid.packgrad said:

All because of politics.

Add this to the fact they are appealing to their base and not the mainstream. Their base does not want to relax restrictions. Some have to keep the panic going, so they can maintain their political leverage. The recent poll saying 70% of Americans are ready to move on basically shows the administration is not listening to the broader messages. They are listening to their base and the echo-chamber you mentioned, prevents them from seeing their error. They think they are the smartest people in the room and we are just a bunch of sheep, waiting to be lead.Wayland said:statefan91 said:

They are stuck in a bubble. Surrounded by COVID ideologues of a certain ilk.
Remember how hard they have worked at quieting dissent.
Who do you think is left in the room?
Some of them may be true believers... the rest have just been in the echo chamber so long they are unable to find any nuance anymore.
And by "politics", it is about using every excuse for more government power grabs. It's not some "virtue signal" so they can "win elections". The elections are already rigged, and both parties push the same agenda. The RINO Republican Establishment are closet globalists/Marxists.packgrad said:

Of course, they failed to mention that the percentage of patients is the lowest it has been for the ENTIRE pandemic.
I disagree - while the US hasn't been at the forefront of COVID thought like some of the Nordic countries especially, I don't think we've been near NZ / Australia / China in their zero-COVID approach either. I expect that we will move in the direction of Europe.Daviewolf83 said:

I think Spain and Italy could be coming soon. As I mentioned this morning, the US will be on the outside, looking in soon. Western nations are dropping restrictions. Western nations do not mask their students (most never have for entire pandemic).
The US will be an outlier, along with Canada, Austraila, and New Zealand. Add to this, China, a country still trying to implement zero-Covid. Effectively, the US is also trying to enact zero-Covid with the arbitrary CDC community spread guidelines that are focused on cases - at a time where we have vaccines that do not prevent cases.

We are in a really strange place. States all over the place. The Federal Government aspiring to be like Canada/Australia but being held in check by 'rebel' states. Kind of similar to how a 'purple' NC is kind of in this tweener state. If Cooper and NC DHHS had their way, we would absolutely look like Canada. The US is "effectively" following a zero-Covid approach. The guidelines the CDC set over a year and a half ago have not been revised and in the light of Omicron are unattainable. They "effectively" drive the US to a zero-Covid approach, where restrictions can not be relaxed. To hit those numbers, the US would have to implement even stricter guidelines than they have now - meaning we will never move away from masking.statefan91 said:I disagree - while the US hasn't been at the forefront of COVID thought like some of the Nordic countries especially, I don't think we've been near NZ / Australia / China in their zero-COVID approach either. Why is the government spending millions to buy and distribute masks, if they have intention to remove masking restrictions? The reason is that they do not intend to relax masking restrictions. The CDC guidelines are important, since school leaders are using those guidelines as justification for masking requirements.

The below the yellow line is what the CDC considers "Low" and when masks can be removed. None of the top 7 counties by population in NC have ever achieved this... even in June when cases were at their absolute lowest.
Thanks for these charts. They very clearly make my point. We got close to the yellow guidelines prior to Delta and Omicron. Since Omicron, it remains to be seen if we can get to the same low levels we reached with the wild version of the virus. Since Delta and Omicron, we have not been close to those levels and to get there requires a zero-Covid approach. If we continue worrying about cases, we will not deal with the long-Covid zealots and we will not get to a level to lift masking guidelines.Wayland said:Here is the zoomed in version. US truckers slam Facebook for removing page organizing DC freedom convoy: 'Censorship at its finest'
American truckers are following Canada's lead and organizing a protest against vaccine mandates. The U.S. group's Facebook page, however, was removed early Wednesday in a move that the organizer called "censorship at its finest."
The group, titled "Convoy to D.C. 2022," acted as a place for truckers to plan and coordinate their trek from California to Washington, D.C.
Jeremy Johnson, who set up the Facebook group, said his personal account was also removed, prompting him to contact a civil rights attorney to discuss the next steps.
"They like to silence people that speak the truth," Johnson said of his Facebook ban.
A spokesperson for Facebook's parent company, Meta, provided this statement to Fox News: "We have removed this group for repeatedly violating our policies around QAnon." In October 2020, Facebook labeled QAnon a "violence-inducing conspiracy network" and announced group pages and admins tied to QAnon will be removed.

Agree. Denmark's step several days ago was big. Other European countries will soon follow.
If you're a policymaker or advisor in the US you're going to look like an even bigger idiot in 90 or 120 days if you keep up the restriction shenanigans when most first-world nations have stopped.
People respond to incentives and generally don't like looking like fools. The echo chamber/bubble will insulate them from that for a bit longer but not after a lot of other countries have rolled back everything without deleterious effects.
