Maybe this should have been really a high point of emphasis when addressing vaccine hesitancy, instead of just talking around it.
I know it has been discussed here at length in the past, but really messaging should have been targeting those at the most risk (like we did for seniors).
I know not perfect, and there are 'healthy' people who end up with severe cases, but I would still think you target the 'likely' potential severe cases.

There are so many .gifs that I want to use to respond to this.
If the communications would just be honest with the numbers and who is really at risk, you wouldn't have to threaten people to get the vaccine. People respond to honesty and transparency. I'm afraid it's too late for that, however, as the damage is done with all of the fear mongering and flip-flopping on what it is and isn't.
I just don't think it should be this difficult. If you're over 50, you need to take the vaccine. If you're 35-50, take it if you want to. If you are obese, you need the vaccine, at any age. The age stratification and obesity risks have been evident since early last year.
This kind of **** has been going on from the start. The State (well, the entire country actually) needs to have a "uniform" way that this stuff is reported. If someone is no longer positive, but still in the hospital r e c o v e r i n g (not in ICU obviously, and not intubated obviously) and you want them reported - then put them into a category that explains exactly what that number means! They should also be quantifying and differentiating between "from covid" and "with covid"... but we need to scare as many people as possible with whatever "fear porn" that we can conjure up.statefan91 said:

My latest (and it's a scoop), for @TheAtlantic https://t.co/YWBEYbdmKm
Quote:
"One of the important implications of the study, these experts say, is that the introduction of vaccines strongly correlates with a greater share of COVID hospital patients having mild or asymptomatic disease. 'It's underreported how well the vaccine makes your life better, how much less sick you are likely to be, and less sick even if hospitalized,' Snyder said. 'That's the gem in this study.' "

So the wife tested positive for 'Ro this morning.
Had a bit of a scratchy throat (thought it was allergies) and since we had a rapid test lying around decided to take it. Later confirmed with a PCR test (I tested negative on both antigen and PCR).
No idea how she got it. No known close contacts with C19+. Fully vaxxed and a rule follower who always wears masks inside since that is our current local rules.
So now the kid is out for at least 2 weeks from school and sports despite not being ill and having no symptoms and 1 dose of vaccine because of a close contact.
Yay science!
It is frustrating -- you should tweet at a couple of those who were guilty of the reaction to CFB stadiums and ask them the difference? I doubt they'd respond, but some may.kmb717 said:

The child needs to quarantine since they are not fully vaccinated. The child will have to quarantine for the 10 day isolation PLUS the additional quarantine period of the 7, 10, or 14 days. They should get tested day 15 (day 5 of quarantine period).
However NCDHHS and Wake County Public Health have provided options to reduce quarantine time after an exposure, if you meet the requirements. Health officials stress that to prevent additional exposures, illnesses, and COVID-19 clusters, it is critical for you to closely monitor yourself for any symptoms and stay home if you have experienced symptoms.
- 7 Day Quarantine Option | You may return after 7 days if it has been at least 7 days since the last date of exposure AND you have not experienced any symptoms of illness AND you provide proof that you have a negative antigen** or PCR/Molecular* test result no earlier than 5 days after your last date of exposure AND you must continue to monitor yourself for symptoms and strictly follow all required health precautions at school through 14 days after the date of last exposure.

It is a shame she had to go to such an extreme. The policy was definitely "insane." As to NC, they should be doing the same thing and allowing those who test-out to remain in class. Supposedly, the federal government provided money to schools in all states for testing, but I doubt they are using this money.statefan91 said:
