I lived there in the early nineties, when it wasn't like that and there was even one Republican in Congress from that area.

Maybe this should have been really a high point of emphasis when addressing vaccine hesitancy, instead of just talking around it.

I know it has been discussed here at length in the past, but really messaging should have been targeting those at the most risk (like we did for seniors).

I know not perfect, and there are 'healthy' people who end up with severe cases, but I would still think you target the 'likely' potential severe cases.

There are so many .gifs that I want to use to respond to this.

If the communications would just be honest with the numbers and who is really at risk, you wouldn't have to threaten people to get the vaccine. People respond to honesty and transparency. I'm afraid it's too late for that, however, as the damage is done with all of the fear mongering and flip-flopping on what it is and isn't.

I just don't think it should be this difficult. If you're over 50, you need to take the vaccine. If you're 35-50, take it if you want to. If you are obese, you need the vaccine, at any age. The age stratification and obesity risks have been evident since early last year.

This kind of **** has been going on from the start. The State (well, the entire country actually) needs to have a "uniform" way that this stuff is reported. If someone is no longer positive, but still in the hospital r e c o v e r i n g (not in ICU obviously, and not intubated obviously) and you want them reported - then put them into a category that explains exactly what that number means! They should also be quantifying and differentiating between "from covid" and "with covid"... but we need to scare as many people as possible with whatever "fear porn" that we can conjure up.

That woman should be relieved of her position immediately. New Hanover County has an indoor mask mandate in place (that very few people are following). That mask mandate is in place due to people like her that are injecting her own personal politics into public health guidance. It's absolutely disgusting.

And yet, that is not the message that is getting put out there for public consumption.

Instead they want children to wear masks to school (indefinitely) and as soon as possible have mandatory vaccines for them as well... but yet, no vaccine mandates for the teachers themselves!

Then they still want mask mandates regardless of vaccination status. When does this madness stop!

Yes... by all means... REMEMBER...."let's keep politics out of this..." LMAO... at least we know where this all started right?

You don't have to wear masks if you are at a BLM riot, a lefty event, a "high end fancy restaurant, a lefty politician or someone who supports lefty causes.

You must wear a mask if you don't agree with anything the left supports and you are "anti-science."

I am not surprised by the findings of the study and it is one reason why I have always separated out an ICU graph to show the percentage of those who are hospitalized that are in ICU. If they are in ICU, they are likely a more severe case. It also helps to roughly show if a given variant is more severe than other variants. Currently, based on the percentage of Covid patients that are in ICU is 25% and this is 2% below the pandemic average. As such, I would conclude the Delta variant is not any more severe than other past variants. It is definitely more transmittable than other variants.

I do find the following quote from the article to be important and it is something that needs to be reported more often:
Quote:

"One of the important implications of the study, these experts say, is that the introduction of vaccines strongly correlates with a greater share of COVID hospital patients having mild or asymptomatic disease. 'It's underreported how well the vaccine makes your life better, how much less sick you are likely to be, and less sick even if hospitalized,' Snyder said. 'That's the gem in this study.' "

If you look at the actual study, you will find the following quote in the study's conclusion:
Quote:

"In this large, national cohort of US Veteran patients, the proportion of hospitalizations due to moderate-to-severe COVID-19 decreased following vaccine availability."

So the wife tested positive for 'Ro this morning.

Had a bit of a scratchy throat (thought it was allergies) and since we had a rapid test lying around decided to take it. Later confirmed with a PCR test (I tested negative on both antigen and PCR).

No idea how she got it. No known close contacts with C19+. Fully vaxxed and a rule follower who always wears masks inside since that is our current local rules.

So now the kid is out for at least 2 weeks from school and sports despite not being ill and having no symptoms and 1 dose of vaccine because of a close contact.

Yay science!

Sorry to hear she's unwell. The mask inside thing is a worthless precaution, IMO, but her vaccination status really is concerning and I make that remark about the general public, not just her. Historically, vaccination is a practice used to promote immunity. It's how we put poliovirus and variola (smallpox) out to pasture. The big picture data on these Covid vaccines, if that's what they are, is a confusing mess.

Here is the NC DHHS guidance for a HEALTH STUDENT who has a household contact:

Quote:

The child needs to quarantine since they are not fully vaccinated. The child will have to quarantine for the 10 day isolation PLUS the additional quarantine period of the 7, 10, or 14 days. They should get tested day 15 (day 5 of quarantine period).

However NCDHHS and Wake County Public Health have provided options to reduce quarantine time after an exposure, if you meet the requirements. Health officials stress that to prevent additional exposures, illnesses, and COVID-19 clusters, it is critical for you to closely monitor yourself for any symptoms and stay home if you have experienced symptoms.

  • 7 Day Quarantine Option | You may return after 7 days if it has been at least 7 days since the last date of exposure AND you have not experienced any symptoms of illness AND you provide proof that you have a negative antigen** or PCR/Molecular* test result no earlier than 5 days after your last date of exposure AND you must continue to monitor yourself for symptoms and strictly follow all required health precautions at school through 14 days after the date of last exposure.
  • 10 Day Quarantine Option | You may return after 10 days if it has been at least 10 days since the last date of exposure AND you have not experienced any symptoms AND you must continue to monitor yourself for symptoms and strictly follow all required health precautions at school through 14 days after the date of last exposure.
  • 14 Day Quarantine Option | You may return after 14 days if it has been 14 days since the last date of exposure AND you have not developed any symptoms of COVID-19.

LIVE WITH SOMEONE DIAGNOSED WITH COVID-19?

If you live with someone who has COVID-19, your quarantine for exposure does not begin until the end of the 10th day of isolation for the person with COVID-19.

  • You may return after 17 days if you meet all of the requirements of the 7-day quarantine.
  • You may return after 20 days if you meet all of the requirements of the 10-day quarantine.
  • You may return after 24 days if you meet all of the requirements of the 14-day quarantine.

17 ****ING DAY QUARANTINE at a minimum for an exposure. Can't even test out until after 17 days.

My kid can't return to school until the second week of October. Health Depts are a fraud.

Given the fact your wife is fully vaccinated, the science tells us she will be infectious for a shorter period of time than someone who is unvaccinated. Personally, I believe your son should be able to test his way out of quarantine starting next Monday, but no one cares what I think.

Regarding the crazy protocols regarding schools, you should be able to appreciate the following video. The person in the mask has a PhD in infectious disease and works for NIAID-NIH.

And I thought my fiasco was bad. I'm sorry, man. That's just an unacceptable proposition, in my opinion. I've never been much of an outspoken individual, but I am building a data set from our local school system regarding last years test scores, current absenteeism and overall risk for children from local hospitals that I intend to take to our next school board meeting. It will probably fall on deaf ears, but some real life statistics and comparisons have to be put into the public realm. There is no argument for keeping a kid out of school for 17 days of instruction with their risk profile.

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a lengthy reply in which I asked - What is the endgame? If the endgame is "zero Covid" then people are living in a fantasy world. Currently, we have a couple of large, well-known universities (Duke and Yale) that appear to be following a zero-Covid approach to their campuses. Both have campuses that have a 99% vaccination rate, but they continue to treat those on campus as potential viral time-bomb.

It is a shame she had to go to such an extreme. The policy was definitely "insane." As to NC, they should be doing the same thing and allowing those who test-out to remain in class. Supposedly, the federal government provided money to schools in all states for testing, but I doubt they are using this money.

CMS just left a voicemail the other day that they are setting up the program for testing of teachers and kids in the coming weeks (why it wasn't planned for during the summer....?). We really need to have a better end game and plan than holding kids out of school for almost a month from an exposure.

17 days? With no symptoms? And I assume no provision for remote learning? That seems really extreme.

That is Wake Cty? So the other side would be Union County, which effective now, I suppose your kid could be in class tomorrow with no symptoms?
Yup. Wake County. For household contact, no illness/symptoms. Earliest test out option is 17 days.
Can you get by with 7 days if your child lives with a different relative for a week? Say someone who has no children at home and perhaps works from home so they aren't impacted as well.
Good question.

I would think so because you are fast forwarding the last date of exposure to the person in question

Thanks for this suggestion. I have obviously been clouded by frustration.

Taking my son to get tested now and then taking him to my parents'. If negative

Not an ideal situation but if it works to get him back faster.

You may have saved him almost 2 weeks of in school time.

Alternatively, if he tests positive today he can go back in 10 days, but then his whole grade goes into quarantine.

School is claiming it doesnt matter and the 10 extra days is baked in regardless if he is living elsewhere for now. Looks like I need to find a number for Wake County Health or DHHS and straighten these people out.

Laughing my ass off at the lefties now "complaining" about overreach....

Best wishes to all who have family members fighting Covid or are fighting Covid... But the hypocrisy of some of you on here is typical of the mantra of the left.
