Of course, I understand what they are saying about how the vaccine basically just "helps your body fight covid once you get it".

But they admit that vaccinated people will still contract and spread the virus. Sooooo...that means that vaccinated people are facing no more of a threat from unvaxxed people than vaxxed people. They can still contract it from both groups.

There is no legitimate reason for different rules for vaxxed vs unvaxxed.

Oh, stop. The worry is not the vaxxed- unvaxxed interaction. The worry would remain the unvaxxed putting the unvaxxed at risk. So they are SUGGESTING that the unvaxxed should continue to mitigate risk as they have been doing (one would hope) by masking, social distancing and washing their hands because they are still at risk when around other unvaxxed people.

People bemoan the lack of common sense and "science" with every ****ing decision, and then a decision comes down that finally makes some ****ing sense and they still piss and moan.

I've been wanting to say this for the last hour.

I'm gun-shy about using the word 'science' around here since it would elicit predictable and not altogether unwarranted pushback given uneven government and MSM messaging over the last year but like my science teacher wife's shirt says "Science is true whether or not you believe in it!"

Fauci/the CDC are damned if they do and damned if they don't at this point.

When you have been speaking half-truths in order to manipulate the public into action and then come out with 'changed' guidance that should have been OBVOIUS for months and start with the gaslighting instead of a mea culpa.... of course they are damned.

Fauci and the CDC have been playing a political game all along.

So, yes, they get a sarcastic slow clap from me for finally getting something 'sort of right' after they had even lost CNN from their side (see my previous post with the Gupta video on CNN questioning just what the CDC was doing).

The tide had changed against the CDC/Fauci, so they quickly pivoted to what SHOULD have been the guidance all along (or much closer to it).

Yep. Fauci is just damned in my book at this point. The CDC has lost credibility as well.

None of what the CDC or Fauci or anyone else with government says is "beyond dispute". Because Fauci, the CDC, and governments having been lying about all of this from day one. I don't care how many "studies" and alleged "data" you cite from these people. They have ZERO credibility. It's all been doctored to suit their agenda.

Prime example is the alleged "500k" that have been labeled as "covid deaths"...which is a total fraud with those numbers deliberately vastly inflated to push the agenda. It is well reported that hospitals are given huge sums of money for every person they can label as a "covid death" and "covid case". And most of these "cases" are made on a "suspected" basis, based on some symptoms without any testing. And even if there was testing, the PCR test cannot diagnose an illness and is completely useless. You have mostly people over 75 with pre-existing morbid diseases actually dying from heart disease and pneumonia or other diseases, and falsely recorded as "covid deaths".

So what? You're grown, and you know that responding to it doesn't change anything. Every discussion on this board turns into political BS, and the same handful of posters going back and forth. Just choose to be the bigger person and ignore it. Someone has to. This thread has largely been civil, particularly for such a hot button topic, and there has been plenty of factual, cordial debate.

Even vaxxed people can still contract and spread the virus. People who have been jabbed are still a "risk" to everyone...just as big of a "risk" as unvaxxed people.

So shouldn't vaxxed people still be wearing masks too by the CDC's fallacious resoning?

You're just wrong. Flat wrong. Most believe AT PRESENT that vaxxed are SIGNIFICANTLY lower risk of contracting and transmitting the virus. Same risk is the only fallacy l see.

Now the scared mom's in my social media timeline are upset about the CDC's statement today because if people don't wear masks their kids might die. I even saw one comment that masks should be required until there is a vaccine for babies. It's really a wonder the human race has survived this long. If you are that concerned for your children, by all means continue wearing a mask, and keep your kids away from people who aren't.

So this fake president or King Fauci or the CDC are dictators of the USA? Many states haven't been mandating masks for months and most probably aren't now, notably Florida and Texas ending all masks mandates recently.

Not surprised, based on the reactions I saw on Twitter today. It is the same thought process that caused over half of the gas stations in NC to run out of gas.

With regards to kids, adults getting vaccinated helps protect kids. A study I posted a few weeks ago shows that for every twenty point increase in adult vaccinations, cases among kids are cut in half.

Bulls game(s) tonight. It was wonderful. Season tix buddy said they expect it to open up fully 6/1. Reduced seating was still nice, but look forward to the real deal. Really hope they take the sideline nets down. That was a new thing since Covid. Hopefully that was the reason why and they're taken down thereafter.

Science still hasn't trickled down to Durham. They request you wear masks if you're not eating or drinking while in your seat. Pretty much nobody does, except the very clearly woke. They request you wear masks while you're walking around. Pretty much everyone does, except the very clearly not woke.

The non extremes all seemed to do the dance, but it's very apparent it's wearing thin. Science hopefully reaches Durham soon.

The CDC got it right and we should all be happy. Of course, it took away the argument from some that the CDC does not believe vaccines work, so they still require masks. Those people lost a key linchpin in their argument today and they are not happy about it.

On the other side of the spectrum, people on Twitter are arguing that the CDC got it wrong, it is still not safe, and we should all keep wearing masks. I commented on these people earlier.

Thankfully, the vast majority of us are in the middle and are happy with the new guidance and are happy with the new CDC guidance. We now have to wait to see what our state leaders will do with the new guidance.
When you're out driving, anyone who goes faster than you is a maniac and anyone who goes slower is a road hazard. Same with politics. If the decisions aren't exactly what you'd do and/or aren't made exactly when you'd want, then the decision makers must be idiots. Lol!

So true. That's a great point.

I guess "science" isn't about static absolute truth, but really is an effort (usually an honest effort) to observe and understand the ever changing dynamic world around us. Most of what we've witnessed the past year is a whole bunch of smart people start to figure out a novel and odd virus at a pretty astounding rate and a whole bunch of not so smart people react in predictable but odd ways.

Well since Biden and his CDC have now come out and said what they've said he doesn't much of a leg to stand on with his ongoing mask rules. "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is finally catching up to the science.
For months, research about Covid-19 has pointed to two encouraging patterns. First, the underlying virus that causes Covid rarely spreads outdoors. Second and even more important fully vaccinated people are at virtually no risk of serious disease and only a minuscule risk of spreading the virus to others.

But the C.D.C., which has long been a cautious agency, has been unwilling to highlight these facts. It has instead focused on tiny risks risks that are smaller than those from, say, taking a car trip. The C.D.C.'s intricate list of recommended Covid behavior has baffled many Americans and frightened others, making the guidance less helpful than it might have been.
Yesterday, the agency effectively acknowledged it had fallen behind the scientific evidence: Even though that evidence has not changed in months, the C.D.C. overhauled its guidelines. It said fully vaccinated people could stop wearing masks in most settings, including crowded indoor gatherings.
The change sends a message: Vaccination means the end of the Covid crisis, for individuals and ultimately for society.

I'd say that's a reasonable assessment. The worst thing about working in science is that I also see it at its worst nature, thus I'm increasingly cynical with age. Most people outside science instinctively understand when science has gone wrong but don't have an insiders advantage in understanding precisely why science has gone wrong. It starts with fallible human beings and is exacerbated by the need for funding and the need to publish...fail either and your career in science is dead. Add in the craving for the glory of scientific achievement and you have researchers who will do anything to obtain all three. The results can be as disturbing as they are predictable.
