Why would we be pitching to Monday though? It's two days a way. Put Smith out there and you still have both available for Monday.

I don't understand the Monday angle.

Go to Smith because he's better. Going to him for his first inning in the 9th vs. a run he gave up in his 3rd inning vs. UGA isn't really the same IMO.

I was shocked when they did not put Smith in and we can see why. The key is to win this game and stay out of the losers bracket. You have a one run lead at the bottom of the ninth - put in your closer. It is not that hard of a decision.

He's not a one inning pitcher but he has MLB stuff the first inning he comes in and then it slips to just good

My thought was they pulled him for defense, thinking Chase might be a little better late in the game. Other than that reason, I do not know why.

If Susan stays in and goes 1-2-3, Avent looks like a genius. It was a gut call and it turned out to be wrong.

No shot he was saving anything for Monday. Losers bracket makes it soooooo much harder and he knows that.

That's the ideal spot to put Smith in. Clean inning, lead, and only one inning to close.

If you're not putting Smith in there, why ever put him in LOL

What youre seeing is what happens to relievers who come back another inning. Smith is good for about two but you come in amped up and then the adrenaline rush dumps, imagine its even worse in this environment
