Dudan has a few saves. Avent probably thought he could go 2. It's different in the CWS with a freshman though. There's a reason all these MLB teams that have tried "Relief Aces" and ditching closers have abandoned it

You've identified Smith as your closer. He knows he's going in, in the 9th, with a lead.

Now you don't do it? Just bad.

Dudan is very good. Smith has been elite in this role. When you lead going to 9th, it's Smiths' ball.

I mean they were behind it but they adjusted to the speed and went the other way with it. Just got beat. Thats why youd rather have a guy with the experience who isnt just throwing as hard as he can Dudan will learn from this . Was just an awful time to learn that lesson

I don't think any pitcher is 100% a single pitch though. Count was 0-1 sure he could have thrown slider there but he's not throwing 100% slider. I dont think that was a count where you had to go with your best pitch but others can view it differently.

He's literally come into innings and thrown nothing but sliders to all three batters. He got away with the first fastball. I'm taking that present and getting him out with my best pitch past that

Why does everything have to come down to coaching decisions? Sometimes kids just make plays.

Dudan has six saves. That's at least six times he has closed out a game before. He is not bad at closing games. There was nothing wrong with leaving him in. He just served one and the UK dude hit it hard enough.

Smith gave up runs in Georgia too, he just had a bigger lead to work with.
