Great weekend sweep for the Pack. Total team effort, but a special shout out to the bullpen. They were amazing and have been the last month or so of the season.
If I had time to check the box scores I would lay out the stats to back up my point, but I only remember one run allowed in the three games total. Anyway great job Pack and let's go win the ACC championship!!!
100% agree on Fritton. I don't know if he's found something finally or what but that looked like a completely different guy on Friday than we have seen all year. I won't say that i've watched every single game this season but i've watched probably 80% of his starts and that was the first time that I saw him really attacking hitters up in the zone and putting guys away with that fastball up. That was his bread and butter last year and whether it be the control issues that he couldn't locate it there or the control issues where he couldn't get ahead in the count to throw it we haven't seen that really at all this season. More of that please, he looked great and what I expected to see heading into this year.StateFan2001 said:
The emergence of the bullpen, Fritton looking like Fritton of last year, and getting Whitaker back to allow a guy like Consiglio to go the long relief role has really allowed this team to get going. I would also add the emergence of Alex Sosa as another reason for their recent play.

didnt realize Chase Burns played the Last 2 years at Tennessee, wonder if there's any regret or if that NIL offer was just to much to turn down
I don't know what he got in NIL...but it don't hold a candle to how much he made himself in what will be his career earnings from his performance this year. I've not watched Tenn and I know they are number 1 in the country...but if they have 3 better starters than Chase Burns...hand them the Omaha trophy now.ClePack said:mdreid said:

Iirc Tenn was not going to let burns start. They wanted him to remain closer. Wake let him start

Got me wondering how Cannon Peebles has done this season.
Wow. Not very well. .228 2 home runs. Everything went down drastically.

yep. I truly do not know how you don't let that kid start. He's electric. And yes, he's made himself some serious cash this year. Top 10 pick in the draft imoPossumJenkins said:I don't know what he got in NIL...but it don't hold a candle to how much he made himself in what will be his career earnings from his performance this year. Should be Sosa with a portal guy or Lanphere backing him up provided he returnsFLWolf said:
Who is our catcher next year?
I doubt we're bringing in a portal kid, at least I haven't seen anything on social media follows (fool proof, I know lol) that would suggest we're after a catcher. What I have seen is that we're definitely after OFers, INFs, both middle and corner as well as some pitching.Glasswolf said:Should be Sosa with a portal guy or Lanphere backing him up provided he returnsFLWolf said:

There are some super intriguing D2/D3 guys that we seem to be after.
We also have JUCO commit Brayden Fraasman who starts in CF for his JUCO but caught in HS before moving to the OF. He could possibly be an option to give Sosa a break. No idea if his days with the tools of ignorance are behind him or what. I'm totally just speculating.

I'm not sure how the Peebles performance is on the staff at Tennessee? That same staff has them #1 in the country right now with a 46-10 overall record. I mean that seems pretty good to me.tau06 said:braz213 said:

Seeing how Peebles has performed and that the Tenn staff didn't really want to adjust to Burns it would have me questioning that staff. Sounds like they are very "our way or the highway" and maybe not the most nurturing of staffs. They have a ton of talent but aren't for everyone it would seem.
He's a damn good coach.braz213 said:
What are your thoughts on Clint Chrysler? I know we've been throwing some freshmen and lost Wiladsen.
Pretty clear that Peebles has regressed and that Burns was not pitching up to his potential while there. I think you can fairly say that the Tenn staff has great things about it and is great for some players but that they are very cookie cutter. Their style and coaching has clearly made Peebles regress and they couldn't get on the same page with Burns. It wasn't a money issue on why he transferred. That's squarely on them. And obviously they are fine but it's more than a fair critique. Everybody at this level is really talented and they coulnd't/haven't brought the best out of those guys.CLTWolf said:I'm not sure how the Peebles performance is on the staff at Tennessee? Burns was taken out of the weekend rotation last year b/c he was stinking it up and the guy that replaced him was performing better. That decision helped lead UT to a trip to Omaha last year. Burns didn't like it but with an ERA just under 6 when he was moved to the pen, he should've understood it. He was gonna be back in the weekend rotation this year had he stuck around in Knoxville. He decided to leave as I think both parties were over each other. It obviously worked out for both Burns and Tennessee in the end.
Vitello is an interesting cat but he's got one of the best pitching coaches in the country in Frank Anderson. That old dude has been around the block a time or two. Not many better to learn how to pitch from than him.
