What an outing on the mound for Frit and company.

Looks like 3 more L's. This team probably doesn't make regionals this year. Zero pitching. Can't continue to play from behind all the time. Comebacks are fun but not sustainable. Maybe they can find some pitching help in the portal for next year. This staff sucks right now.
So far no L's

Huge series W. Won the first two, might as well sweep em!

Don't know why we even made the trip…anyone seen this fella since?

Nope. And we probably won't until we lose again. You'd think State fans would learn not to throw in the towel early after what we saw in football and basketball this year.

Web score watching it seemed like Clemson left a lot on base. Looks like Clemson had 11 LOB versus 5 for NC State. Regardless I'll take it. Luck > Good. Hopefully State is both.

We were the better team in clutch situations. Big hitting and pitching with two outs

Not necessary. Whatever people think of Avent shouldn't change based on 2 games.

4-1 so far against top 10 teams this year and going for 5-1 and a sweep. And yet some people think we need to fire Avent LOL

There was literally a fire Avent thread started after losing the LVille series without 2/3 of our starting rotation.

Welcome to baseball! It's hard to score, got to hit it where they are not. Enjoy the rest of the season and watch the pack win a lot of games

The lack of brainpower about this baseball season has been astounding. Posters trying to proclaim the team dead while also claiming it was a joke. Just incredible. Maybe now that the team is getting fully formed we will force a brain cell or two into them!

If we could get a couple more bullpen guys going we'd be in damn good shape. Fanning Lucas and Andrews are guys I'm looking at to get going. And doesn't seem like Mako has gotten many looks but we just need a couple of them to be able to go somewhat reliably.

Agree. Too many people that know better were really high on the arms on this team and while it seems to have taken longer (and maybe not been the ones we thought) it seems like Avent and Co are figuring it out and our pitchers are getting back to what is call a true "normal" of stats/run given up etc. still been a very small sample size

Great points. We always have guys step up and it's not typically who we expect. I remember last year thinking Creed Watkins would be a key for us.

There's a "fire coach" and "never criticize coach" culture clash on these forums that seems to consume way too much of the bandwidth.

Haters need to tone it down and roinbowers need to as well. How about "Go Pack!" and just move on if you disagree on either side. I'm almost about to drop off the Pack the Doak because it's a lot like Facebook or Twitter politics that's so polarized that anyone in the middle just wants everyone to STFU. I fall into to both the Pack Fan and political\ categories and damned if I just want to find somewhere to enjoy moderation.

With that said, hell of a couple wins Pack9. Keep it going!!

NC State secured a series victory over No. 2 Clemson with a wire-to-wire 4-0 victory on Saturday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, handing the Tigers their first loss on a Saturday this entire season. The shutout also snapped Clemson's 132-game streak without getting shut out.

NC State (20-12, 10-7 ACC) sealed the series win at Clemson (28-6, 10-4 ACC) for the Wolfpack's first series win over a top-five opponent since its Super Regional victory over No. 1 Arkansas from June 11-13, 2021. The Wolfpack has won five of its past six series at Clemson, including three straight dating back to the 2018 season.

NC State capitalized on four errors from the Tigers to plate three runs over the opening three frames. Alec Makarewicz's RBI double down the right-field line put the Wolfpack ahead 1-0 in the first. Jacob Cozart's RBI fielder's choice then doubled the Pack's lead to 2-0.

The Wolfpack increased its advantage to 3-0 when Hogue scored on a throwing error from Clemson second baseman Jarren Purify. Cozart ripped a double to advance Hogue to third base before an errant throw home skipped away from Tiger catcher Jacob Jarrell, allowing Hogue to advance home for the Wolfpack's third run of the night.

Makarewicz drove in his team-high 48th run of the year with an RBI single in the fifth. Brandon Butterworth scored NC State's fourth run after leading off the inning with a single.

Sophomore southpaw Dominic Fritton turned in his best performance of the season, tossing a season-high 5.2 scoreless frames while allowing just three hits. Fritton fanned six batters while allowing just one walk.

NC State freshman reliever Jacob Dudan entered with two outs in the fifth with two runners on. After allowing a walk to the first batter, Dudan struck out Clemson shortstop Jacob Hinderleider on a 2-2 pitch to leave the bases loaded.

Derrick Smith, who notched the save in Friday's victory, logged his second save in as many nights with two scoreless frames to secure the series victory. Smith inherited two runners in the bottom of the eighth and did not allow a run to score, striking out all three batters he faced in the frame to send it to the ninth. He then struck out Clemson left fielder Will Taylor to cap off a Wolfpack win in the bottom of the ninth.

The Wolfpack's combined shutout of the second-ranked Tigers marked NC State's first shutout of a ranked opponent since an 11-0 win over No. 11 Louisville on April 1, 2023.

Fritton (2-3) earned the win, while Clemson starter Ethan Darden (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing four runs (one earned) in nine innings on the mound.

NC State concludes this weekend's series at Clemson on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Sunday's series finale will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.

Clemson is having an outstanding all around sports year with top 20 finishes in football, men's basketball and current #2 ranking in baseball, plus National Championship in men's soccer and Final 4 in W soccer. But Clemson just 2-10-1 in all sports vs N C State in 2023-24.

Credit to the coaches (is that allowed?) for sticking with Derrick Smith through his struggles. He just woke up and decided to be the best pitcher on the planet.

7 innings
23 batters faced
14 Ks
1 run
1 hit
1 walk
