Unc tried too and got a NIT bid
Hell, I'd take Corona at SS next year. hahaDaviewolf83 said:I was lead to believe it is a pitcher. At this point in time, I am hearing Hawks is planning to come back. I am not sure what Keener will do. I have heard mixed information on him. Personally, I think he leaves, but as you pointed out - NIL could have an effect. It does change the equation for some of these kids. As far as Lee is concerned, he may be back. He seems to like being at Wake and he does have another year available to him if he wants to come back. They are definitely high on Cueto and with him being a sophomore, he may want more of role next year. If Lee is back, I am not sure how you keep him on the roster too. Like we saw with State, it gets tough when you have two players and only one position.CLTWolf said:Tommy Hawke is draft eligible too and he's on a couple lists that I've seen but I can't imagine anyone picks him anywhere that would give him reason to leave.Daviewolf83 said:They have to find a role for Corona next year. Some think it might be at second base. They also return the kid (Winnay) that played at first base tonight. He is a freshman and they are very excited about his future. He played well tonight in a tough game to become a starter. I am not sure what Cecere will do. He was hurt for much of the season (hamstring) and struggled some when he returned. They do expect to get the South Rowan pitcher enrolled and I have heard some news will break soon on some other portal players who will pick Wake. They will definitely miss Lowder. He was a generational pitcher and he showed why tonight. Wake thinks Keener may return for another year, but who knows what a kid who is draft eligible will do.CLTWolf said:They lose Lowder and Minacci for sure. Should lose Seth Keener, draft eligible SO Sean Sullivan and Teddy McGraw. Thing about McGraw is his arm injury could negatively impact his draft status. Could he be back? Would he be full speed? If I were him I'd take all the money I could in the draft this year as he had arm surgery in HS as well, I believe.Borowolf10 said:
Wake just wasted a generational squad Lmao.
Point is, they have a lot of talent coming back on the pitching staff in Hartle and Massey. They got another local HS lefty (South Rowan, IIRC) signed that is supposed to be a tough sign and headed to school. I think that weird SOB Roland will be back along with Mascolo and other kids from their pen.
They definitely lose Wilken at 3rd. Bennett, Johnson and Cecere are in their leverage years so normally they'd probably be gone but in the age of NIL who knows.
They got the Seaver King kid from Wingate. Kurtz is back at first along with Corona and the young SS whose name escapes me.
They gonna be touuuuugh next year too. But yeah, this team was definitely generational.
Tough way to lose, but Wake had an incredible year. Things came together for them this year and a lot broke their way.
Cecere is a big boy at 6'5 230 so I could see a team taking a chance there.
Kurtz back at first
Johnson probably back at 2nd
Houston SS
Seaver King 3rd/DH
Corona DH/3rd/anywhere on the INF he's needed?
Lee back at C? They also have the Cueto kid that I think they're high on.
I assume Costello is back
Hawke back
Bennett?
Scouts really like Keener and need to strike during that leverage year but like I said, with NIL who knows.
They could still field a really really good team. And I'm sure this portal commit you speak of would be a P if I had to guess. I mean just about everyone else could/should be back in the field.
As far as Corona is concerned, he is similar to Peebles for State. He wants a starting role next year and I would not be surprised if he goes in the portal if Wake can not give him a definite opportunity next year. I do expect some teams to make some moves in back channels to feel him out.
Me too!!CLTWolf said:Hell, I'd take Corona at SS next year. hahaDaviewolf83 said:I was lead to believe it is a pitcher. At this point in time, I am hearing Hawks is planning to come back. Tough way to lose for Wake and for State fans too. Great pitching by both teams. I am more of an offensive guy, but both teams pitched very well until the last pitch. The Massey kid for Wake Forest is a 3rd cousin of my best friend and just found out about it this morning. He was dealing.
I won't watch any of the Finals but two great teams.

I've heard the same about Corona, that he may end up in the portal looking for a starting role on D. I've heard Hawke is looking to go if drafted, but we'll see. I think Keener's decision is huge for them. He's got a ton of talent.Daviewolf83 said:I was lead to believe it is a pitcher. At this point in time, I am hearing Hawks is planning to come back. It is a technicality I suppose, but Wake Forest can claim division and ACC regular season titles. I know for a fact that Notre Dame claims the 2021 ACC regular season title because when I went up there the baseball field had a banner for it.

If NC State won the "regular season" in men's bball we'd hang a banner, but that doesn't mean we actually won anything.

his family was not happy with not playing 3rd consistently and we were not winning a ton. I really have no idea what the relationship with Avent turned into in the end. I do know we never had a chance one he starting talking to others
NIL-to be fair, it was so new they really had no idea what they could get. LSU offered considerably more than anyone could offer. I know they spoke to number of other kids in the portal that were going to LSU and it was it
Avent and staff did a great job getting him in the first place. From travel ball to HS, they were always looking for bigger and better
That is as much I know people down here from people that know his family. There is always more out there
It was a combo of his and his family's insistence wanting him at 3rd base to allow draft exposure. Then NIL became a factorncsuchris said:
Regarding Thomas Tanks, I am guessing no one knows the real story for why he left. Some people say it wasn't NIL, it was the chance to play third, regardless of proficiency or being injury prone. Others say it was pure NIL. I sometimes hear the fishing thing, too. Does anyone actually know the deal?

I'm not sure how many times or many different people need to say it, Tommy was not playing for us this year no matter what position we promised him.
