I went to a coffee shop this morning. I had the joy of explaining who Bob Brooks was(there was a Bob Brooks entrepreneurship award on the counter) ....then it led to Kulwicki talk and then it led to Dale Earnhardt talk. Those kids working there were completely blown away. One of them even pulled up the DW western auto car on his phone...the most beautiful paint scheme ever. I love explaining 80s/90s nascar to kids, it's a world they never knew and at the same time one they find unbelievable

My late father and I beg to differ... I give you "The King"!

that was a beauty. I got to see that in person at the Museum. Richard autographs every thing in the museum store. I actual just missed him being there last time I went. I've heard he'll talk anything with anyone except drag racing.

I really enjoy reading and hearing others on their NASCAR experience.

I wish I had more stories myself. One cool one I forget about sometimes is my experience the saturday before the 95 ac delco 400. My brother on weekdays would go over to Troy Beebe's shop in Archdale and help work on his cars after work....I think he was in the #93 Banana Boat/Campbell Univ car then. SO we got to stand on Troy's trailer saturday and man oh man what a race....Troy was out after 2 laps after hitting the wall on the backstretch....my dad was an old freind of Johnny Benson Sr. from his days living in MIchigan so he'd switch back and forth standing on Johnny Jr's Lipton tea trailer and Beebe's. My restless little ass eventually made my way to the front stretch pits...I didnt want to miss the finish. Todd Bodine, Mike Wallace, and Johnny Benson Jr finished 3 wide....my dad got to celebrate with Benson Sr as even tho Todd won the race....Benson clinched the title that day. We got our wknd pit passes from John McKinsey with Motorsports Designs, before the days of wraps they were THE decal company for most teams. He gave my brother a #3 decal that was actually made for Dale's car(rear deckled)...he stuck it on his cooler and still has the cooler to this day. Man those were good times.

another goody....1994

My meeting Mrs Martha Nemechek. The BGN series was at Myrtle Beach. Joe was sitting in his car and visibly frustrated. He was in the Dentyne car. I went to him to talk racing and he simply wasnt having it.....Martha noticed and came over and grabbed me and asked me if I would walk with her to the Infield concession to get a hot dog. She bought my hot dog and pepsi and we just sat at the picnic table talking nascar....what I will never forget was when she said "I have another son that is going to be a good one. His name is John" He was on Joe's pit crew that day and she introduced me to him, he was very nice but very busy.. It was so sad the day he died because I knew how much Mrs Martha loved that kid. I got to see her again at Dega in the pits in 98 and she remembered me. Joe won that day at Dega and Mrs Martha went nuts. I was so happy to see that. To me she is the queen of nascar and the sweetest lady you will ever meet.

Richard Lasater fed me hamburgers the year before in 1993 lol. I literally had 3 burgers and like 4 fantas. They grill out between the trailers. Richard is the nicest driver I ever met. We share the same birthday. He raced for Sam Ard. Sam Ard was a man on a mission, I was afraid to even meet him, he was turning wrenches man.

Oh and the food fight I got into with Rich Bickle LMAO at Dicks Last Resort in Myrtle in 1995. I didnt even know it was him at first. That leather Brickyard 400 jacket he had was what made me go to him and ask who he was....he literally pulled out his drivers license and proved to me he was Rich Bickle.....he had a mustache and shaved it making him un recognizeable.from his earlier days. As we left he was doing some funny **** with a condom full of water.....that dude was a hoot. He was in town for the All Pro 400 at Myrtle. I saw him in the infield singing autographs the next day and hit him in the head with a balled up race program.....he immediately recognized me and smacked me upside the head with whatever he was autographing....oh and the day he finished 4th at Martinsville in the cup race bringing him to tears is one of my favorite moments in nascar. Those guys appreciated top 5 finishes back then. They didnt pout about it but took it in stride and was something to be proud of. I miss that about today's drivers......the whole if you aint first your last crap just doesnt do it for me. Those guys knew how to appreciate their situation.

I just wanna say. Ryan Preece is my new favorite driver. Declaring that today. He is a throwback and a man among boys. I was so happy when he won Daytona and Bowman Gray.

GO #60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know that I'm coming off as negative but I have doubts about Dodge. My question is how serious are they? Kaulig, how does a small two-car team become a flagship? My second question is why are they rushing in without a clear plan for a power plant? I keep going back in my mind on how Toyota came into the sport and its two totally different ways. Maybe I'm wrong and time will tell. Anyone else have thoughts? BTW , I'd love for them to come in.

.@USANetwork got a 0.82 rating and 1.480 million viewers for Sunday's Bank of America 400 @CLTMotorSpdwy, flat in rating (0.82) but down in viewership (1.8 million) from the Roval last year, per Nielsen's Big Data formula.

The Kyle Busch tribute got 193,000 viewers on FS1.

I just understand why some of these races can't be on regular cable?

"do" or "don't"?

Don't. I think viewership would be better. I did see where NASCAR's CEO was meeting with CBS.

Yep, said they were wanting to move 5 of the mid-season races from TNT to CBS broadcast. I think it would help with viewership numbers.

Hamlin threw around that maybe Trackhouse was an option.

I can still remember as a 7 (1969) - 8 (1970) year old seeing a couple of the Plymouth Superbirds or Dodge Daytonas in the parking lots at the grocery or the old style department store / mall parking lots... I "seem to" remember seeing some lemon yellow, neon greens with the Superbirds and neon orange and reds with the Daytonas.

I know they only manufactured them for a few years, but it was also like as soon as they stopped manufacturing them - you basically immediately stopped seeing them in real life as well.

Nothing could stop a kid dead in his tracks, like getting to see one of these things in a public parking lot. For whatever reason, I was partial to the Superbird over the Daytona (had to be the nose cone, I guess).

This is in response to both ncsupack1 and your post here above - but I still don't "get" the Amazon Prime 5 races in a row during the middle of the summer thing? Plus, IIRC - it even has the World 600 wrapped up in it, which has to be about the stupidest thing ever as far as I am concerned...

Really missed not being able to watch the racing last year (first year), but I didn't even give it a second thought not watching any of it this year... probably not the desired effect they are looking for - but then again, I'm not their desired demographic anymore either, so I guess it doesn't really matter to them anyway.

ernie - just wanted to share that I really enjoy your stories here (even if you do ramble from time to time - and I know that I very closely resemble that remark as well)... I hope you are doing as well as you possibly can - and I know that you are truly suffering with your terrible situation, and just want you to know that I and some of the others in here think about what you are going through - and are keeping you in our prayers.

Please keep them coming - and I hope that sharing them with us keeps you in somewhat good spirits.
