Hamlin still has a shot, but he needs a really good CMS. Overall he hasn't had a great chase.

Heard John Hunter's name floated around for the 6, but nothing concrete. I'll be heading to CMS later and can't wait to hear what is going on.

Yep, heard JHN is more than likely to end up at Roush as the third car. He can bring some of their own funding as that car doesn't have a charter (for now anyways). These big name sponsors want to be on a chartered car and make sure they make the race each week. Smaller sponsors will jump on here and there.

Agree. In reality the 500 and Talladega are the few races one could miss.

It's only Wednesday but Sunday isn't looking good. Could be a bit of rain.

Yep, that tropical system is looking more and more like it will provide plenty of rain this weekend

gosh might as well put Preece in the 6(flagship car) and Todd Gilliland in the 60 and Cole Custer in the 34

soon we're gonna have 25 car fields if we're lucky

Awkward style of racing that does not lend to side by side racing after long runs

drivers retiring early, old time car owners given up on the sport, less teams, might see Ford pull out, Dodge def aint coming.....and these race tracks can not survive economically just one major race per year.

We are seeing the beginning of the end,

I can understand being upset, but there are also a lot of new and young owners. Justin Marks, Hamlin and Jordan, Gordon, and Heather Gibbs. Penske is run as a corporation rather than a family team. And with charters rumored for 80-100 million, we will do fine. Now, yes, there is a lot of issues that need to be addressed on and off track.

The barrier to entry is just way too big in this sport. Guy like Sheldon creed in the o Riley series is having to leave a championship ride in order to finally get paid to drive. We have to find a way to get the best talent in the sport rather than guys who just buy rides of which there are many examples.

I agree. For trucks and O'Reilly, the first question is, how much money you got? Honestly, without JRM and JGR, O'Reilly looks a lot different, and not in a good way.

That's the big problem in the whole sport. For years now, it's not been as much about talent as has been about how much money you have. The guys are buying rides in the truck series and O'Reilly for sure, I've seen it happen many times.

Heck, there are some damn good drivers in the late model ranks, some better than what we see on TV each weekend. But the money just isn't there and they never make it to the trucks, O'Reilly or Cup.

100 percent agree with you on the late mod ranks. There are some really good folks driving and I also think with them not moving up, it has hurt NASCAR's top 3 series.. You local favorites and kids hero's aren't able to move up and become the stars of NASCAR. To your first point, that was one of the things Hamlin was suing over, put the best in the car, not who has the most money.

Do you think junior may have a soft spot for the O'Reilly Series. Maybe part of the reason he won't move to Cup Series. He seems to be really invested in the lower series.

Jr does a lot like you said for the lower series. I don't think he and Kelly ( more so Kelly ) want to spend the money for a charter. At one time he thought 2-3 million was too much. Josh Berry ( I'm a big fan of) got his start because of JR.
ge_traveler
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yep that's exactly right. He would already have a car in the Cup series if it wasn't for the cost of the charter.

And to your point, if he had wanted to get into the Cup series full time, it would have been when Berry was starting. He and Dale Jr accomplished a lot and they are great friends.

If I'm not mistaken but doesn't Rick Hendrick have a small ownership in JRM? If so, that's a big perk in itself.

With the storm moving in, practice and qualifying will be starting earlier in the day Saturday for O'Reilly and Cup cars.

"NASCAR competition officials announced revisions to Saturday's schedule at Charlotte Motor Speedway because of the threat of inclement weather related to Hurricane Isaias.

Practice and qualifying for both the NASCAR Cup Series and O'Reilly Auto Parts Series will be moved two hours earlier Saturday. The O'Reilly Series is set for practice at 8:30 a.m. ET and qualifying to follow at 9:35 a.m. ET, both broadcast on ESPN Unlimited. Cup Series practice is now scheduled for 11 a.m. ET with Busch Light Pole Qualifying at 12:05 p.m. ET, with coverage on truTV, PRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio."

My guess is tomorrow will be a double header with O'Reilly race following CUP. Usually NASCAR will make a call after inspection for CUP is over ( for P&Q ). Gates were to open at 8:30 and aren't at the moment.

Was a good race. Close finish there at the end between Briscoe and Bell. Glad they didn't wreck, both able to hold on.

Hamlin had a good run....but so did Larson. 49 point spread with 4 races to go. Hamlin has to win stages and get a win to get max points, with Larson having some bad luck in order to have a chance. If Larson stays consistent like he's done the last 4 or 5 races, it's over.

I'm glad Berry had a good finish today as well, faught back for 4th place finish.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Anyone within 40-50 points with 2 races left still has a chance.

The Alex Bowman wreck that took out Bubba Wallace and William Byron yesterday was Hamlin's best friend... he was almost 100 points back in real time as it happened, it took out 3 cars that had been better than him all day (to that point), and it brought up an automatic pit stop.

Before that, Hamlin was toast. But, that's racing and that's why you can't count people out until they are officially out... Hamlin ended up saving himself at least 40 points the rest of the way after that.

(then he intentionally gets into Larson on the restart, and Larson was never the dominant car again yesterday after that... I expect to see more of that as the number of races left continue to dwindle).

As a 21 and Berry fan that was fun to watch. Went from starting 27th to a 4th finish. I'll take it.
