I'm going to spend this nascar weather delay trashing soccer.

Twenty-two players chasing a sphere,
For ninety long minutes, the finish ain't near.
A whole lot of running, a terrible view,
Just waiting in vain for a point or a two.
They flop on the turf with a theatrical groan,
But when the time's up, the scores still sit at zero.
The whistle is blown, the players depart,
And you're left wishing you'd watched go-kart.

Soccer drags for ninety minutes with no score in sight,
While roaring engines claim the track in a blur of blinding light.
Forget the endless kicking and the flops upon the green,
We want five hundred miles of rubber burning on the scene.
Let the gears shift and the engines scream,
A thunderous, left-turning, high-octane dream.

As for me as a fan of NASCAR since 1967, I absolutely love soccer especially the World Cup. I love going to see the nc courage play also. NASCAR is still fun but it's not nearly what it use to be.

a soccer game played in the tri-oval grass during a race might get my attention

I remember the 600 ending at like 3am once thanks to rain delays....

I see lots of people went ahead and went home after the delay. When I went to the 2014 Daytona 500 it was like that....lot's of people just went home after the delay

I now remember that this was a virtual black hole in the NASCAR schedule last year for me as well... five races on Prime, where they try to actually claim the same range of numbers that they get on Fox or TNT (first off, those numbers are a blatant lie)... then they parade a succession of scheduled Sunday night races immediately behind that.

What happened last night is exactly why you don't schedule Sunday evening races to begin with. I mean how many times do they have to get burned like that, before they figure it out.

I think I gave up sometime around 10, changed it to something else after they were done interviewing Blaney during the delay... and promptly fell asleep.

Luckily for ernie it was on TNT. No one else would have continued to cover it into the next morning like that...

(at least I should get to watch the Brickyard 400 week after next that actually comes on at 2:00PM).

Glad to see the 12 win. I went to bed, I'm not staying up for that. Not rain related but if you want Sunday night racing shorten them. I personally can't stand them.

When I saw a 11:45 green flag estimate I new I wasn't going to see the remainder of the race.

Same. I don't criticize NASCAR much, but these Sunday night races are no good. I've noticed the trend with Prime and TNT doing more evening races. CW likes them to, that place wasn't close to selling out even though it produces some of the best racing on the schedule. So heat isn't the problem.

And just like that, the IHRA stock car series folds overnight. Could see it coming but happened sooner than I thought.....figured they would make it a year but they decided to pull the plug mid-year.

I had heard months back that the tracks that were bought by them were acquired so they could later be turned into data centers (think I even mentioned it on here a while back). I hope that doesnt happen but with the people behind the scenes in that series, I wouldn't doubt it.

Sucks for the race teams that actually bought the equipment for that series.

That does suck. With this news you've shared I would think NASCAR is going to walk away from the rock. I wish they would just buy it.

.@TNTSportsUS averaged 1.5 million viewers for the rain-impacted NASCAR Cup Series Quaker State 400 Available at Walmart at EchoPark; last year's summer race there was also delayed and got 1.6 million.
TNT says it was on pace for a 2.4 million AMA before the three-hour delay.

Some more news.

FknWeirdErnie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If I was in charge of NASCAR

1. No yellow line rule, it has caused more wrecks than it has prevented...plus the needless controversies.
2. Cup cars would be more like the Xfinity cars and would have closer to 850-900 HP. Plates would be back at Day, Dega, and Atl but much bigger holes...these cars need to be going 200+ at Day and Dega...it's not like the plates have kept cars from going into the fence
3. No races in the south in June, July, and August...except Daytona July 4th
4. No sunday starts later than 2p
5. The classic two date tracks would have two dates again including Pocono, Michigan, NW, and Dover.
6. The All-Star race would return to Charlotte
7. The numbers would be moved back, they look so stupid now.
8. Daytona would be July 4th weekend with it rotating each year between a night race and an 11am start
9. 25 year old age limit on Cup drivers. Babyface young guns are not good for the sport.
10. No cell phones in the pits by drivers
11. 3 cookout get togethers by the drivers, crew chiefs, and owners, no families or other crew members allowed....one at Daytona 500 wknd, one at Daytona 4th of July wknd, and one during final race weekend....the drivers all seem to hate each other now a days and that **** needs to be fixed.
12. NASCAR would buy Rockingham and move all corporate offices there, including the HoF. They'd have 2 Cup races each year. NHRA would be back at the dragstrip....and I'd partner with some hunting/gaming/fishing companies to have a hunters style resort built there, Sandhills Gameland is just right down the road. Ledbetter Lake isnt far from the track either. Oh and I'd renovate "Little Rock" behind the backstretch and turn it into a weekly short track and I'd work very closely with county/city officials to make Rockingham the CAPITAL of NASCAR racing. Oh and the end year banquet would be held at said resort and not in stupid NYC or Vegas
13. Xfinity and trucks would return to some of the short tracks like Hickory, South Boston, and other short tracks around the country....and I'd have Myrtle Beach Speedway rebuilt somewhere between Conway and Aynor...and built just like it was.
