No. 2 NC State wrestling (4-0) will head up to New York this week for three dual matches. The Wolfpack will visit Army Thursday night at 7 p.m. and then take on Binghamton at 6:30 p.m. and Sacred Heart at 8:30 p.m. at the Arm Bar at the Armory in Albany, New York on Friday night.

Second-ranked NC State wrestling defeated Army 34-6 on the road Thursday night to improve to 5-0 on the season.
The Wolfpack won eight of 10 bouts over the Black Knights, including one via a pin, two via technical falls, and four via major decisions.

Ed Scott started the night off strong at 157lbs with a decision over Army's Nate Lukez to give the Wolfpack the first lead of the night.
AJ Kovacs and Alex Faison suffered the only losses of the night at 165lbs and 174lbs, enabling the Black Knights to take their only lead of the match.
After these two losses, NC State wouldn't lose again after strong energy followed up immediately from Dylan Fishback and then a pin from team leader Trent Hidlay.
Jarrett Trombley held the only close match after this but he came out on top 7-6 from his heated bout over Braden Basile.

Second-ranked NC State wrestling picked up two more wins on Friday night to go 3-0 on the week. Friday night started with a 35-9 victory over Binghamton, followed by a 48-5 win over Sacred Heart.

Deemed the "Pat Pop Tour", NC State head coach Pat Popolizio got to show off his team's talent to all three of his former schools in roughly a 24 hour period. Popolizio served as head coach at Binghamton from 2007-12, prior to that he held an assistant coach role for a year each at Army and Sacred Heart in the early 2000s.

Collectively, The Wolfpack won 17 of 20 bouts over the Bearcats and Pioneers, including three via pins, nine via technical falls, and two via major decisions.

The first match of the night against the Binghamton Bearcats featured an upset for No. 29/27 Dylan Fishback at 184 over No. 9/13 Jacob Nolan. Fishback successfully fought for his low scoring 3-2 decision to prove his growing talent and determination.

Dylan Reinert stepped onto the mat for the first time this season for the Wolfpack and quickly took care of business. He was able to get a technical fall over his opponent to end his bout early.

Freshman, Tyler Tracy, impressed fans as he pinned Sacred Heart's Mike McGhee in only 40 seconds, only right after his teammate Ryan Jack had just pinned his opponent as well.

10 members of the second-ranked NC State wrestling team (7-0) will travel west to Las Vegas, Nev. to participate in the highly anticipated Cliff Keen Invitational across Friday and Saturday (Dec. 1-2). The tournament is being held at the Westgate Paradise Event Center and is set to begin at 9 a.m. PST on Friday and 10 a.m. PST on Saturday.

Featuring 35 total teams from across the country, 16 of them hold spots in the top 25 NWCA coaches poll. Out of all the teams at the event, the Wolfpack hold the highest team ranking at No. 2 followed by No. 5 Ohio State, No. 6 Cornell, No. 7 Michigan, No. 8 Iowa State, No. 9 Nebraska, No. 10 Virginia Tech, No. 11 Oklahoma State, No. 14 South Dakoka State, No. 15 Oregon State, No. 16 Northern Iowa, No. 17 Navy, No. 22 Arizona State, No. 23 North Carolina, No. 24 Stanford, and No. 25 Maryland.
Last year, NC State placed second overall behind Nebraska. Trent Hidlay and Isaac Trumble won their individual brackets at 184 and 197, respectively. Ryan Jack at 141lbs and Ed Scott at 157lbs each placed third in their individual brackets.

9-1 in the first rounds today. Only Kovacs lost at 165. Orine, Arrington, Scott, Fishback, Hidlay all won handily.

Not as great of a 2nd round, few losses but only Ed Scott was an upset loss.

NC State wrestling places fourth in Cliff Keen Invitational, Orine and Hidlay earn first place finishes

NC State wrestling finished fourth in the Las Vegas-based Cliff Keen Invitational with 115 points a solid showing with many of the country's best squads competing. The Pack's results varied across the board, but overall it was a strong showing for NC State. The competition was highlighted by two individual champions redshirt senior Trent Hidlay and redshirt junior Kai Orine.

Hidlay earned his first place finish by defeating Maryland's Jaxon Smith in a 5-2 decision. Up to that point, Hidlay dominated his opponents with margins of victory of 16, 7, 16 and eight on his way to the 197-pound title.
Orine had an impressive run of his own to win the 133-pound championship, defeating Iowa State's Evan Frost 12-4 in a battle of the top-seeded wrestlers. While Orine came out on top, Iowa State finished ahead of the red-and-white to take the team title.

In addition to the two champions, NC State enjoyed a second-place finish in the 141-pound competition, thanks to a strong weekend from junior Ryan Jack. In the championship bout, Jack fell 2-5 against Ohio State's Jesse Mendez. Jack led 1-0 heading into the third period, but a late takedown proved costly, putting Mendez up for good.

Junior Ed Scott found himself in the consolation bracket but won to claim a strong third place finish. In the consolation finals, Scott faced familiar foe and ACC rival, Virginia Tech's Bryce Andonian, but dominated the bout with an 18-7 victory, leaving no doubt about the final result.

Scott wasn't the only NC State wrestler to defeat a Hokie; redshirt freshman Dylan Fishback crushed Sam Fisher 16-4 in a major decision to claim seventh place. Fishback's tournament was highlighted by an upset victory over Oregon State's Trey Munoz, who's considered one of the best in the nation. The tournament helped show the potential for one of the Pack's up-and-comers that will be needed over the next few years in the 184-pound class.

The final Wolfpacker to win some hardware in the invitational was sophomore Jackson Arrington, who finished in eighth place. Arrington's run came to an early end with a medical forfeit, but he still enjoyed a solid outing, representing NC State in the 149-pound class.

While he didn't earn a trophy, redshirt freshman Troy Hohman provided one of the Pack's more exciting matches. In an upset over Air Force's Tucker Owens in a 10-6 decision, Hohman opened the round of 32 strong in the 125-pound class.

Redshirt junior Owen Trephan dominated early against Purdue's Tristan Ruhlman in the round of 32 a rematch from Nov. 11 at Wranglemania where Trephan won 19-4. In the rematch, Trephan pinned Ruhlman. The Summerville native has been a force as a heavyweight and is continuing to be so this season.

The Pack will have one more regular season tournament, the Collegiate Duals, on Dec. 18-19. The Pack will then make its home debut at Reynolds Coliseum on Jan. 5 against Oklahoma State in a highly-anticipated matchup.

Second-ranked NC State wrestling is headed to Nashville, Tenn. to compete in their third-straight Collegiate Duals. The team will face Lock Haven (3 p.m.), No. 25 Northern Iowa (5 p.m.), and No. 10 Ohio State (7 p.m.) on Tuesday afternoon at Montegomery Bell Academy.
The Collegiate Wrestling Duals, put on by Journeymen Wrestling, is a two day event featuring eight teams from around the country, 6 of those teams are currently ranked. No. 5 Cornell, No. 6 Iowa State, Little Rock, and No. 13 Pitt will round robin each other on Monday, Dec. 18th while Lock Haven, No. 2 NC State, No. 25 Northern Iowa, and No. 10 Ohio State will do the same on Tuesday, Dec. 19th.
The Wolfpack enter the tournament ranked second in the country by the National Wrestling Coaches Association poll. The team is 7-0 so far this season (5-0 neutral, 2-0 away) with a ranked win over #25 Purdue on Nov. 11th.
Nine of 10 starters are ranked, six of which are in the top-5 of their weight class by FloWrestling.
