The NC State track and field program put their talent on display on the first day of the Hokie Invitational, establishing three new school records.
DISTANCE The Wolfpack opened action on day one of the Hokie Invitational in the women's mile. Senior Sydney Seymour finished fifth overall in the event with a time of 4:46.64, a new personal best. She was followed by her teammates Grace Hartman (4:48.24) and Brooke Rauber (4:50.88), who placed sixth and seventh in the event, respectively.
In the men's mile, the Pack saw two athletes finish in the top five. Ian Harrison finished third overall with a time of 4:01.09, which is now the fourth best mark in school history. NC State junior Brett Gardner recorded a new personal best with a time of 4:01.33, a mark that placed him fourth overall in the event and gives him the fifth-best mark in the history of the program.
Freshmen Ryan Motondo (4:16.47) and Patrick Gibbons (4:17.33) also participated in the event, both setting new personal bests.
Sam Bush earned a time of 2:45.39 in the women's 1000m, finishing fifth and recording the second best time in school history. She now holds the first and second-best times in program history for the event. Seymour finished ninth overall with a time of 2:51.28, which is good for sixth-best all-time at NC State.
Hartman also recorded a top-10 program mark with a time of 2:53.39, the eighth-best in school history.
Zach Hughes made history in the men's 1000m, producing a time of 2:23.28 (2:23.279) to claim the school record for the event. This mark is also good for a new personal best. Fellow sophomore Jake Toomey (2:25.87) also put his name in the record books, finishing with the fifth-best time ever recorded in the program, while also setting a new personal best.
Another record was broken in the women's 600m. Caroline Lewis recorded a personal best time of 1:34.73 to finish ninth in the event and claim the best time in school history.
In the men's 600m, Kyle Durham finished third with a time of 1:19.69, a mark that now sits at second-best all time at NC State, behind only his own record of 1:19.48, which he set last season.
John Malach posted a personal best time of 8:19.36 in the men's 3000m, a mark which earned him third place overall.
SPRINTS Senior Ally Henson moved on to the women's 60m hurdle final after finishing sixth overall in the prelims with a time of 8.61. This time is now eighth-best in program history. She posted a time of 8.55 in the final to claim sixth place. This time is now tied with teammate Timara Chapman for the seventh-best mark all-time for the program.
In the men's 60m hurdle prelim, NC State saw a pair of seniors advance to the final with top-10 program finishes. Cameron Murray placed first with a time of 7.75, a mark which now sits at third best in school history. Josh Brockman set a personal best with a time of 7.80 to claim second place, which is now fourth all-time at NC State.
Murray wasn't done entering his name into the record books, as he broke a school record while also finishing first in the men's 60m hurdle finals with a new personal best time of 7.67. He now holds the top three times in Wolfpack history for the event and is responsible for four of the 10 best all-time marks in the program. His time of 7.67 is good for the best time in the nation. Brockman posted another 7.80 time to tie his new personal best and finish second in the final.
Imunique Archie (7.789) and Chapman (7.86) each set a personal best in the women's 60m prelims.
On the men's side of the 60m prelims, Alex Lang advanced to the final and set a new personal best while finishing third overall with a time of 6.67. This is now good for the fourth-best all-time program mark. Sophomore Alexander Nunley placed 10th overall with a time of 6.876.
Henry Young also participated in the event and set a new personal best time of 6.89.
More personal bests were set in the Women's 300m final as Archie (42.24) and Allison Payton (42.34) each recorded new career-best marks.
JUMPS The Pack saw three athletes earn top-10 finishes in the women's long jump. Jirah Sidberry recorded a season best jump of 5.98m (19'7.50") to finish fourth overall. This jump is also good for the ninth-best in school history. Timara Chapman earned fifth place with a new personal best jump of 5.91m (19'4.75"), while Zahra Bichara set a new personal best with a jump of 5.90m (19'4.25") and claimed sixth.
In the men's long jump, Cameron Murray set a new personal best while also claiming second place with a jump of 7.54m (24'9.0"). Josh Brockman came in third with a mark of 7.50m (24'7.25) and Jamar Davis earned fourth overall with a jump of 7.50m (24'6.25").
Sophomore William Sistruck also participated in the event for the Wolfpack, receiving seventh place and setting a new personal best of 7.15m (23'5.50").
THROWS Mahkayla Hart claimed sixth place in the women's weight throw with a best throw of 16.91m (55'5.75"). Fellow sophomore Makala Wright recorded a best throw of 16.85m (55'3.50"), which was good for eighth overall.
