The fourth-seeded NC State men's tennis team (11-7, 7-3) defeated 12-seed Florida State (9-16, 2-10 ACC) in the ACC Championships Quarterfinals on Friday, taking down the Seminoles 4-1

The Wolfpack's win earned them a spot in the Semifinals for only the second time in program history since the team tournament began. NC State will take on one-seed Virginia in the match.

DOUBLES
NC State came out swinging in doubles play, jumping out to early leads on courts one and two. The team took both courts to win the point. Alexis Galarneau and Robin Catry were the first with a win, defeating Sebastian Arcila and Alex Knaff 6-1.

No. 31 Tadas Babelis and Yannai Barkai claimed a ranked win as they took down 43rd-ranked Loris Pourroy and Marcus Walters, 6-3. The Wolfpack was ahead on court three when the doubles point was clinched as Robert Turzak and Collin Shick were up 4-2.

SINGLES
No. 22 Galarneau made quick work of his first set against No. 110 Pourroy, taking it 6-3. He went on to defeat Pourroy 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 to clinch the match.

NC State split the first sets with the Seminoles, taking the first one on courts one, three and six. Barkai was the first singles competitor of the day with a win, defeating Chase Wood 6-3, 6-0.

Catry tabbed the second win of the day with a 7-5, 6-2 straight-set win over Arcila.

Florida State got on the board with Andreja Petrovic's 6-4, 6-4 win over Rafa Izquierdo Luque, but the Wolfpack quickly answered with a Galarneau's match-clinching victory.

"Great team effort today," said head coach Kyle Spencer. "Obviously we hadn't played a lot lately, so I was really impressed. The guys came out very strong in doubles on all three courts.

"In singles, all the guys were fighting so hard, and it was really great to see that we were in it for a big battle. Credit to the guys that won their match but also the guys that were left out there fighting. It's great for the program to reach our second ACC Semifinals in a row. We're excited for another big challenge tomorrow against Virginia."

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
Virginia claimed the top seed in the ACC Championships behind an undefeated conference record and checked into the latest Oracle/ITA rankings at No. 6 in the country.

The Cavaliers defeated eight-seed Georgia Tech in its quarterfinal matchup by a score of 4-3. The match came down to a tiebreaker on singles court two that ultimately went to Virginia.

Four of Virginia's singles competitors are ranked: Carl Sderlund at No. 9, Jeffrey Von Der Schulenberg at No. 44, Iaki Montes De La Torre at No. 55 and Ryan Goetz at No. 99. Sderlund is ranked in doubles with William Woodall at No. 10 and Woodall is additionally ranked with Chris Rodesch at No. 87.

Fifth year Alexis Galarneau and senior Tadas Babelis have each earned a spot on the 2021 All-ACC teams.

Galarneau is only the second men's tennis student-athlete in NC State history to garner All-ACC honors four times.

Galarneau was named to the All-ACC First Team for the third-straight season and third time in his career. The Laval, Canada, native completed the year with a 10-2 dual match singles record that included six wins over ranked opponents. Playing at the number one position in singles, Galarneau was ranked throughout the entire season.

In doubles, he compiled a 10-7 record that featured just two conference losses. He was ranked with Robert Turzak in the Oracle/ITA doubles rankings for the duration of his 2021 campaign.

Babelis tabbed his second career Third Team All-ACC honors. The senior competed primarily and the number two and three positions in singles.

His 11-7 doubles record featured five wins over ranked opponents, and he was named ACC Doubles Team of the week two separate times during the 2021 season. Babelis was ranked with Yannai Barkai in doubles for the entirety of the 2021 season and with Robin Catry for the most recent five editions of the doubles rankings.

The 25th-ranked NC State men's tennis team (11-8, 7-3 ACC) has been selected to compete in the 2021 NCAA Tennis Championships, as announced by the NCAA on Monday.

The squad will travel to 13-seed South Carolina's Columbia regional where it will take on Liberty (20-7, 6-0 ASUN) in the first round at 10 a.m. Friday, May 7. With a win, the squad will take on the winner of South Carolina (15-9, 7-5 SEC) and UNCW (15-5) Saturday, May 8.

NC State has earned a spot in the NCAA Championships in each season under head coach Kyle Spencer that the tournament has taken place. The 2021 bid marks the third-consecutive tournament in which the Wolfpack has competed.

The team compiled a 7-3 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) record, only dropping matches to teams ranked in the Oracle/ITA rankings.

Fifth year Alexis Galarneau recorded a dual match singles record of 10-2 that included six wins over ranked opponents, three of which were in the top 25. He tabbed First Team All-ACC honors and became just the second student-athlete in NC State men's tennis history to earn All-ACC status four times.

Senior Tadas Babelis claimed Third Team All-ACC laurels, the second All-ACC honors of his career. The Vilnius, Lithuania, native competed in both singles and doubles action throughout the season and posted a 5-2 record against ranked doubles opponents.

At the 2021 ACC Championships, the team earned the four-seed and defeated Florida State, 4-1, in its quarterfinals match. With the win, The Wolfpack earned its second-straight and second-ever semifinals berth since the team tournament began.

A first-round win for NC State would allow the Wolfpack to compete in the second round Saturday, May 8 or Sunday, May 9.

Sixteen teams will move on from regionals action to the round of 16 Monday, May 17. Beginning with the the round of 16, all remaining matches will occur at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. The quarterfinals are set for May 20 while the semifinals will take place May 21. The 2021 NCAA Champion will be crowned May 22.

Singles and doubles championship participants will be announced Tuesday, May 4. All singles and doubles competition will take place at the USTA National Campus as well. The singles championship will run May 23-May 28, and the doubles championship takes place May 24-28.
