The 25th-ranked NC State men's team (10-6, 7-2 ACC) is set to complete its regular season Saturday, April 17 as it welcomes No. 10 Wake Forest (25-5, 10-1 ACC) to the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. The team will recognize its five seniors in a post-match ceremony.

PACK IN THE RANKINGS
In the most recent Oracle/ITA team rankings, the Wolfpack checks in at No. 25 and has several team members in the singles and doubles rankings.

Fifth-year Alexis Galarneau holds the highest singles ranking by a member of the squad at No. 19. Junior Rafa Izquierdo Luque remained in the rankings at 76th.

In doubles, Yannai Barkai and Tadas Babelis notch the No. 23 spot while Babelis and Robin Catry check in at No. 35. Galarneau is ranked in doubles alongside partner Robert Turzak at No. 65.

LAST TIME OUT
The team defeated Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) foe Clemson, 4-1, to post its seventh conference win of the season. Clemson took its only point of the match with a pair of doubles wins, but the Wolfpack followed up doubles action with four straight singles wins.

All six first sets in the match went to NC State, and none of the singles victories went to third sets. Barkai was the first to win and was followed soon after by Babelis. Catry claimed a ranked victory, and Turzak won his match to clinch the win for the team.

HISTORIC 2021 SENIOR CLASS
The NC State men's tennis class of 2021 made history together after posting four incredibly successful seasons. During the 2020 season, the team recorded multiple program-best rankings, finishing the season ranked sixth in the Oracle/ITA final team rankings.

The senior class achieved NCAA Tournament berths in 2018 and 2019 in addition to the program's first-ever ITA Indoor National Championship berth in 2020. NC State has risen steadily in the rankings since the seniors' first year on campus, finishing at No. 29 in 2018, at No. 23 in 2019, and at No. 6 in 2020.

In 2019, the squad earned its first-ever ACC Championship Semifinals berth and reached the Second Round of the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2014. The members of the class of 2021 were strong in the classroom as well, highlighted by the team being honored with the 2018 Chancellor's Cup. The Chancellor's Cup is awarded each year to the NC State team with the highest team GPA.

SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS
Wake Forest has dropped only five matches in 2021 and has claimed victories over three top-20 teams, including a recent win over then-No. 2 North Carolina.

Three members of the Demon Deacons are ranked in singles, led by Henri Squire at No. 11. Eduardo Nava checks in at 32nd in the country while Taha Baadi rounds out the singles rankings at No. 109. In doubles, Squire and Nava are ranked together at No. 17.

UP NEXT
The Wolfpack travels to Rome, Ga., to compete in the 2021 ACC Championships. The tournament is set to run April 21-25.

The No. 25 NC State men's tennis team (10-7, 7-3 ACC) fell to 10th-ranked Wake Forest (26-5, 11-1 ACC) on Saturday in a 7-0 decision.

NC State celebrated its senior class at the match, recognizing the contributions that seniors Tadas Babelis, Alexis Galarneau, Joseph Schrader, Tristan Smith and Robert Turzak made to the Wolfpack team during their time in school.

DOUBLES
Doubles play was back-and-forth, and the score was knotted up multiple times on courts one and two.

On court three, Melios Efstathiou and Taha Baadi defeated Turzak and Collin Shick, 6-1, for the first doubles win of the day.

The Demon Deacons went on to take the doubles point with No. 17 Eduardo Nava and Henri Squire's 6-4 victory over No. 23 Babelis and Yannai Barkai.

Galarneau and Robin Catry, playing doubles together for the first time since NC State's win over Texas in 2020, took down Matthew Thomson and Siddhant Banthia, 6-4, for NC State's only doubles win of the match.

SINGLES
Wake Forest took the first three singles matches to claim the team victory. The Demon Deacons' first win was on court one, where No. 11 Squire defeated Babelis 6-2, 6-3.

Banthia put Wake Forest a point away from clinching the match with his 6-4, 6-4 victory over Schrader, and Filippo Moroni got the clinch with a 6-1, 7-5 defeat of Collin Shick.

Play continued on the remaining courts, but the Demon Deacons claimed victory on all three. No. 109 Baadi defeated Catry 7-6(4), 6-3 while No. 32 Nava got the 6-4, 7-5 win over Turzak.

Rrezart Cungu rounded out Wake Forest's wins with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Barkai.

STRAIGHT FROM THE PACK: HEAD COACH KYLE SPENCER
"I thought the guys played really hard today," said head coach Kyle Spencer. "They fought really hard. We obviously had a couple of new doubles pairings out there. Doubles didn't go our way, and then in singles we had a lot of close sets and just weren't able to get over the hump in some of the matches.

"With having the break - we had about a 10-day break - there was a little bit of rust out there. I'm really looking forward to next week and the ACC Championship."

The No. 25 NC State men's tennis team fell to the No. 10 Wake Forest Demon Deacons 7-0 After the match, the senior class of Galarneau, Turzak, Babelis, Shick and Tristan Smith were honored on the court in front of family and friends.

"First and foremost, they're just unbelievable people," Spencer said. "They're everything that you would want. They train together, they go to class together, they're just really, really good people. In terms of tennis, they've really elevated the program These guys have done everything we've asked of them. I couldn't be more proud of the way they're leaving the program."

This year's senior class will go down as one of the most accomplished in the history of the program. In the group's first three years, the team rose in the rankings each year, finishing at No. 29 in 2018, No. 23 in 2019 and a program-best No. 6 in 2020.

The group reached the NCAA Tournament in 2018 and 2019, and in 2019 alone, the group also reached the ACC Tournament semifinals for the first time in program history and the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014.

Not only has the senior class excelled on the tennis courts, but also in the classroom as it was a part of the 2018 team that won the Chancellor's Cup, awarded to the NC State team with the highest team GPA.

"It's meant a lot," Galarneau said of his time at NC State. "I think it's how I've matured over the years. It's how they've shaped me into who I am now, and the coaches have done an unbelievable job on the court. These guys off the court, we've had so much fun. It's so many good memories that I'll keep forever."
