Good news this week that we got the 5-1 week I was hoping for. The win over Elon was better than I thought. They had already beaten UNC this year, so they are a good squad. Splitting with Ohio is solid too, and taking care of business in the other three is exactly what we needed to do.
This week, we play UNCW (#94 last year, 4-5 this year against an average schedule), and then we play Pitt (#61 last year, 8-5 this year). Pitt split with Georgetown this year, and we crushed Georgetown. On the other hand, they went 2-2 in the Big Ten Challenge against a couple of decent teams.
I would say that we need to win our home series, so we need to go at least 2-1, and then we need to take care of our midweek opponents, so I'm hoping for at least 3-1 this week. No idea, what our RPI is at this point. We should get an official update around mid-march, and then weekly after that. But we are 10-5 now. If we get to 13-6, 2-1 in the league, that feels like that is definitely bubble status.
If I had to guess what our record needs to be get in the NCAA, I'd say 33-23 is a good guess. Our non-conference schedule is a little softer this year than in years past, so 31-25 isn't going to cut it. Still, if we shoot for 12-12 in the ACC, then we only need 11-6 in our remaining non-conference games. Of our 17 non-conference games, only 1 would I say we are the underdog (USC-Upstate), 6 are solid tossups (Charlotte, UNCW, Liberty, Kennesaw State, Kennesaw State, Duke), and the other 10 are should wins. All this makes me feel like we are in a pretty good spot. Hopefully this week continues to trend us in the right direction.
