1.6+ million Democrats voted for a man in Virginia who fantasized about kiIIing his opponent's kids. This is where we are.

The soul of the democrat party lies with the far left now.

sorry man, when you elect someone and excuse their behavior for the sake of partisanship, you get this as an end result.

Lol yeah, no. The ole whataboutism. Who has excused anyone's behavior and name me a republican that has talked about killing his opponents and has gotten elected…Not even close to being the same thing but I'm not surprised.

You minimizing this and somehow blaming republicans behavior is quite a leap.

No, I'm blaming everyone. We're at a race to the bottom. This is just the latest low.

Not even close to being comparable but whatever, I'm not gonna waste my time.

The far left is absolutely in control of your party and I don't see how you can't see that. But republicans!!

Watch democrats end the shutdown now that these elections are over. Would be absolutely disgusting using the suffering of others to generate voter turnout. I guess we shall see.

I think you're missing the point I'm trying to make and that's ok. Maybe I'm not expressing it correctly. I'm not comparing what is worse, what I'm saying is it's getting worse, and the lowest common denominator keeps getting elected. It's like a one oneupmanship of ****ty partisanship.

It will continue until we bottom out I suppose and realize we're all neighbors with actual common ground and not living around or going to church with Hitler and Lenin.

If you are looking for blame politically, I think Winsome Sears ran a terrible campaign on one issue that was low on the priorities of the voters and it dragged the entire ticket down.

Let's not forget… no one in the three States asked the best "get out the vote" person to campaign with them. They made a choice, because of things like you said, and ultimately got trounced!!

Never Trump Pubs lost, not what you think!

Sears has TDS! Yes, it appears as if she ran a crappy campaign; however, Youngkin ran a good campaign, yet, he didn't deliver on his campaign promises. That's what you get when you elect establishment Pubs.

Hokie, you can call things "racing to the bottom" all you want…. That said, if you don't sling the mud, like the Dems sling it, you get Trump. Pubs are weak as water, until someone like MTG steps up. Like her or not, she not going to sit around and let the Dems rule Washington. BTW, I find MTG annoying.

Mandani won on left wing populism. He is an excellent politician. The message he ran on is very appealing, and it would be the same message I would run on (generally speaking). Now, his prescriptions are pure Marxist/Communism.

Hokie, your whole argument against populism is truly misguided. People want to be spoken to with popular rhetoric. It becomes the prescriptions for the populism that you need to debate. Affordability is a key issue for New Yorkers. Personally, I agree with them. Now, what are your prescriptions? That's is the real difference.

In summary, Virginia and New Jersey, lost based on their lack of 2 things: they didn't speak to the people and they didn't get the best "get out to vote" person we have.

Heck, the back-handed endorsement of Cuomo, Trump gave, helped him a little, in a city, that is greater than 40% foreign born. Now, yes, we are a country of immigrants; however, the immigrants of yesteryear came in with a love of America. That's not what we see today, unfortunately…

The democrat party we all grew up with is dead and gone. It's been replaced by radicals and that's hard for old school dems like hokie/Civ to accept or admit.

This pretty much sums it up. Republicans aren't cultists like civ and smapty. We'd never vote for /support a Muslim socialist to run a major US city. These cultist do. They'll be the ones that destroy their party though.

It's unfortunate that the Dems don't have more Smapty's and Civ's. They wouldn't vote for these type of people, would they?

I will never have any common ground with those that are perfectly ok with assassination culture.

I knew Sears would lose because of her past anti Trump rhetoric but I really thought there were enough decent dems left that would vote against Jones…shame on me.

You don't see the coincidence in the fact that the races fell right at Trumps current approval numbers? How about the severe uptick in young voters swinging back to democrats?

Trump is great for Trump, he has been a drag on every other election since 2016. It also doesn't help that Republicans continue to roll out candidates that have no shot. For instance, Senate in NC.

As someone who has had a poster imply that my daughter should be raped because I disagree with them politically, I don't recall anyone here being batting an eye about it. So you can **** off with your fake outrage.

The Gilbert's are awesome people, they've done a tremendous good in their community in the Shenandoah Valley. They didn't deserve the way they were treated nor continue to be treated.

Please. Trump sexually abused at least one woman, was accused by two dozen others, and may be an actual pedophile.

That's a lot worse than words.

And 75 million people voted for him. And that's not to even discuss things like him and Don Jr. joking about Paul Pelosi's attempted murder. And party leadership didn't bat an eye (not to mention how it gets defended or dismissed on here).

What Jay Jones said was inexcusable. Point blank, end of story.

But that's just it - the left doesn't try to excuse it. He's said on multiple occasions he's ashamed, embarrassed, and sorry, and party leaders condemned his violent rhetoric.

When was the last time you heard those words from Trump or anyone on the right regarding Trump's behavior or other party members who say nasty ***** When was the last time party leaders on the right resoundingly condemned nasty or violent right-wing speech using words like "ashamed, embarrassed, and sorry?"

It's simply intellectually dishonest to act like leaders on the left and the right are held to the same standard with regard to public discourse or conduct at this time in history.

When leaders and party operatives on the right make vile comments, they're just jokes. Locker room talk. Boys being boys. College kids having fun. Libs being Karens. Doesn't mean anything. And that's according to the actual Vice President and House Speaker.

I don't have an overly pessimistic view about this; I do think the pendulum swings back some when Trump is gone.

Tone starts from the top and he and his sons are just classless, crass, trashy dudes and expect and want that from those around them so you see their behavior mirrored in Vance (explicitly) and Johnson (passively) and others.

I don't think other Republican party leaders will get away with that type of conduct (or even attempt to) and Dem party leaders self-flagellate and purity test each other too much for poor conduct to go broadly unaddressed, unapologized for, or excused.

There is zero evidence that being pro-Trump helps down-ballot candidates and a mountain of evidence that it hurts them instead.

And this is across a several-election sample size at this point.
