Back to my 2nd and last question:

Is the young Doge team in on Elon's lie? Or is the team just a front, a fake?

I'm assuming the consensus of the 3 of you is that the $37T resulted from the billionaire class tax breaks? Or for some other reason?
Again, is this a serious question?

It's a mystery for the ages how you can, on one hand, believe that the most likely explanation for a massive flood is the Illuminati controlling the weather, but then can't possibly see how Elon might have hand picked a bunch of loyal kids to do his dirty work.

Ironically, it sure seems like it's you (and Cary, etc) who have Trump Derangement Syndrome... anything involving Dear Leader completely shuts down your "discernment".
Smapty, did you see my post above on the actual people on the DOGE team. These people are serious people. Not some random kids in the woods...

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5218847-meet-the-doge-team/

You're confusing the DOGE yes-men that Elon has placed at the various agencies to "co-run" them. Those are at least adults. The team of hackers he has going from department to department are most definitely a bunch of kids with checkered pasts more than happy to rummage through systems that they may or may not have legal access to in order to find "fraud".

Incidentally, any technical person who's ever been involved in any kind of merger and tried to sort through another company's databases and code knows how absolutely absurd it is to claim that they found massive fraud in (let alone could even comprehend) these gigantic databases and ancient COBOL(!!!) systems in a matter of weeks. I don't care how elite they claim to be.

As expected, when they do release "findings" it's comical, which of course forces Elon to double down.
Smapty, you're projecting significantly on the yes men. These people did an interview that I thought was fairly responsible. They are putting their names out there for what?

Yes, we have a number of youthful people that may be doing the technical work. In today's world, with today's technology, they probably understand it better than you or I. BTW, I have no idea what type of database this stuff sit on; furthermore, I have no idea what language is being used on these systems.

Now, some of this AI I'm starting to see can easily sift through this stuff at rates we've never seen before. So, please don't underestimate the capabilities of others. It's not a very appealing trait…

At the risk of sounding (gasp) condescending, give me a break, this is literally my field.

The database is irrelevant, it's SQL which is universal... it's understanding how (and if) the data is being used that's the problem. There is a LOT of garbage in old databases. To sort that out you need to understand the software using the database.

Almost all government systems (including the Social Security systems) are written in COBOL, an ancient software language that is notoriously hard to reverse engineer. Being a young, and especially elite developer, is actually is an impediment... elite developers are experienced with modern languages. Extracting business logic out of a COBOL system typically requires dusting off the retired developers who created it. More often companies just leave the systems alone and work around/rewrite them. (DOGE recently claimed that they're going to rewrite the entire SS system in a few months. Aside from that being hilariously unlikely, that's the reason why).

And no, feeding the entire codebase and massive database into the DOGEBOT 3000 AI and saying "ok, find me the fraud!" isn't a thing.

Elon is taking full advantage of the fact that no, most people clearly have no idea. But you trust any ridiculous claim he makes, so that's all that matters.

I don't understand why you think the US shouldn't be 100% sure someone is a criminal before sending them to the worst prison in the world to potentially be killed. That upsets me, and it concerns me that you have zero care about these mistakes.

Knowing someone who was treated like a criminal, moved from detainment center to detainment center with no communication from the loved ones that they have here, and get zero due process, who came here legally and was doing all the right things to become a citizen of the country she loved, get deported for absolutely no reason. Agreed. I'm concerned that procedure be vetted and followed. This story seems to be as substantial as wet tissue paper, however, and I can't get worked up over it. Let's consider what didn't happen here. A U.S. citizen didn't get sent to that hellhole. Someone who wasn't supposed to be here in the first place, got sent back to his country of origin. And under Biden, even the most vile characters could enter the country claiming asylum and they usually did, they were coached to do so, in fact.

I'm not going to try and say I understand technology as much as you; however, I'm certainly not a novice. That said, I'm certainly not going to give you the benefit of the doubt when comparing your knowledge to Elon.

No offense, I think we can all say his credentials are solid. That said, you may feel as if yours are better than his…. BTW, at the risk of sounding (gasp) condescending, give me a break, this is literally his field.

Who knows…. You may actually be the smartest person in the room.
I never suggested Elon is a moron who doesn't know what he's doing. I'm saying he knows exactly what he's doing, which is bullshi**ing you.
Like I said… you may actually be the smartest person in the room…
Ok, I might be able to be convinced that Musk is actually a moron. Maybe you can help me out with an example from a couple days ago...

At a Wisconsin rally Sunday he said this:
Quote:

"One interesting statistic was that 40 percent of the calls into Social Security were fraudulent, meaning that it was someone trying to get a Social Security payment that was going to a senior instead to go to a fraud ring."
What the Social Security Administration actually said was that 40 percent of direct deposit fraud, one specific type of fraud, occurred via calls to the agency. That is not remotely the same thing as 40 percent of all 60 million annual telephone calls being fraudulent.

So you tell me... is he an unbelievable moron who understands rocket telemetries but can't grasp a basic SSA statistic, or is he BULLSHI**ING YOU?

I don't know, suddenly I'm torn.

Yes, any non-citizen who crosses the border and gets asylum and is legally allowed to work here gets a SSN. That's how it's always worked. It's what allows them to pay taxes (yes, they help keep Social Security solvent for Fox News viewers, the irony).

There's nothing fraudulent about it, and it doesn't give them the ability to vote.

So you are now saying he actually was in MS13. And now more facts emerge. Turns out the judge in question is the infamous Boasberg, not an immigration judge as the original story would had us believe. Until/unless this matter is further clarified, the usual suspects have presented us with a nothing burger.
no I'm giving you a reasonable assumption that if he is or was an MS team gang member it's probably because it's forced upon him because he came to th e United States seeking asylum and didn't have a criminal record for 10 years.

I know plenty of people from growing up in Durham that were part of a gang that are no longer part of a gang and have productive members of society decades longer than they were in a street gang.

Several of them served honorably on the military, some own businesses in Durham, one is a preacher. Gang membership is sometimes forced on you, I'm sure you don't get that but it's a truth
I'm sorry, could you speak up? You were drowned out by the screams of Jamie Raskin and his congressional colleagues that all illegal alien gangsters be brought back to the US. :B

Is a schoolteacher. It's madness for what exactly?

A sampling of the news. And this is just the growing economic calamity, which is far from the most important aspect of how Trump is destroying the country. But it's the easiest to see.

Atlanta Fed GDP Now tracker falls to -3.7% for Q1: https://www.atlantafed.org/cqer/research/gdpnow

Today's ISM manufacturing print was "one of the ugliest, most stagflationary" reports in recent memory. https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/newsletters/2025-04-01/trump-liberation-day-manufacturers-are-anxious-about-a-tariff-slowdown

US consumer confidence has fallen 4 months in a row and is at a 12 year low:

European stocks outperformed US stocks in Q1 by over 18%, the widest margin in over 30 years: https://www.forbes.com/sites/garthfriesen/2025/03/31/european-stocks-surge-ahead-of-wall-street-in-q1-2025/

If your litmus test is "my world in eastern NC didn't end in the last two months because [whatever DOGE nonsense] happened," that leaves a fair gap in the analysis, no?

You're not going to feel cutting billions in public health funding until the next pandemic.

You're not going to feel cuts in vaccine delivery to African nations, even if millions more cases of malaria, or MMR, or HIV/AIDS result.

You're not going to feel Park Service cuts until you walk the poorly maintained trail down into the Grand Canyon.

You're not going to feel cuts to the CFPB unless you're one of the unlucky Americans that fall victim to fraudsters or get taken advantage of by nefarious lenders.

I could keep going, but you get the point.

None of these cuts, or many of the others implemented by DOGE, will be felt by most Americans. And that analysis falls woefully short of the comprehensive analysis needed to determine if a cut is prudent or impactful in the big big world.
