Oh, so these tech jobs are all of a sudden a good thing! Ok, since we don't have the workforce to provide for there 20,000 new jobs in R&D, how do you propose we get there since you don't want dirty foreigners getting some of these jobs and paying taxes on wadges and living the American Dream with a legal visa?
What a stupid starting point... you have really become a clown show.

we want good, manufacturing jobs in the US? correct? That's the goal. We need more $17/hr jobs! I'm just following along with the MAGA debate here and therefore we don't want these high paying R&D jobs that Apple is proposing.

We're against H1-B visas now, so I'm asking you a legit question. How are we going to do it?

Good manufacturing jobs pay a lot more than $17 / hour.
oh man, how much more?

Just the average is 50% higher. Good would be double.
So $34/hr - $70,720 a year. We would rather have those than jobs that make $150k + a year?
Why does it seem that so many of your posts present a false dichotomy? We want both kinds of jobs.
what manufacturing do you want to bring home and who is building this factory infrastructure?

Reminder, the US is the second largest manufacturing nation in the world behind China.
I think we start with improved utilization of existing manufacturing infrastructure. There are factories in the United States that are currently un- or under-utilized.

Also, it seems some foreign companies such as Hyundai, Kia, LG, and Mercedes have indicated they will increase production in the United States. Probably a few jobs associated with that.
but you do understand tariffs don't help with the overall job creation? Ie more jobs can be created without tariffs

Congratulations to Bongino, a patriot! I don't think the high-level prosecutions, however, go through the justice dept, as it's probably too compromised. I'll guess they're military tribunals, and the Kash Patel rhetoric may be distractions. If not, they'll be referred to the military for treason and sedition. Epstein Island will be a combination of treason/sedition and crimes against humanity.

Clearly. Nothing at all wrong with manufacturing jobs.

And to add to the mis information. This was a couple years ago but I worked with Apple resourcing "manufacturing" jobs to the US and they did it in 6 months. So Apple can move fast.
As someone that ran a company and reported directly to its owner and won a three (3) year facilities maintenance related bid / contract at the Google Data Center in Lenoir and was in that building no less than 100 times during that period - data center was open and fully operating in less than three (3) years from the time they purchased the land. Our contract started while the construction was still going on for at least six (6) months or so. I think that was pretty fast.

This was during a period where Apple and Google were openly and aggressively poaching employees from each other as well, so guess what? I was also invited to visit, tour the Apple Data Center in Maiden oh, probably around 10 times and was asked by one of my old Google contacts then at Apple to bid on the exact same type contract there. Left that company in early 2012 and moved to the coast, so I don't know if the bid I put together won them the contract or not... BTW, Apple (first server building) was open in 18 months after they closed on the land...

SLOW. AS. HELL.

Since this thread seems to be about Ukraine and Apple, here's a good spot to insert my thoughts….

1. Bought my first Mac ever, after twenty years with PC Win and Win 10 was the last straw for me, making me walk away from MS. I've been disappointed from the first day, slow ass computer that takes forever to boot up and is miserably hard to make compatible with PC programs like Parallels. I hate MS but may be forced back to them.

2. With respect to the Russian-Ukraine conflict, I'm exactly on the same page as Civ, and damn the rest of you for making me say that.

Gee, I wonder who desperately wanted US troops out of Southeastern Europe? Who could it be? Whooo… could… it… be? You'll never guess!

From your link:
Quote:

According to Greek media, Trump's decision to dismantle the military presence in Alexandroupoli came after a joint request from Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

As noted by the Greek newspaper, if confirmed, the move represents a diplomatic concession that could alter the balance of power in the Eastern Mediterranean.
I wonder what the U.S. is getting in return for altering the balance of power in the region? Just kidding, everyone knows that showering Putin with nonstop gifts for no discernible reason is the Art of the Deal!
