#Sieve, it's the very tiny tip of the iceberg. TINY, Sieve.
I'm glad to see Musk has turned into a full-blown conspiracy theorist loon. Fits right in with his VP Trump.
I look forward to the day where DOGE publishes their findings from the Social Security database showing that Democrats are receiving the lion's share illegal benefits.
Of course, we all know that's not going to happen and this is more gas can bull**** from Musk that he's lobbing into the campfire just for fun.
Civ, let's say I agree with you about Musk. Trust me, I'm not the biggest fan as I think he could be an opportunist…. That said, he has built some very interesting businesses. Heck, you might even own one of his cars…
That said, do you want to know if we have any fraud in the system? I don't know if it's true; however, one report and parroted by Senator Kennedy (LA) said we had 6 1/2 million people receiving Social Security benefits that are 112 or older. Someone needs to look at this for fraud.
Don't you doubt that we have 6 1/2 million US Citizens that are 112 or older?
Let me say unequivocally so it's never questioned - I hope ALL fraud gets rooted out no matter who it's being perpetrated by - left, right, center - doesn't matter. Root it all out. Eliminate it, and if there was any criminal behavior that precipitated the fraud/malfeasance, hold those that perpetrated the crime fully responsible.
That said, I will absolutely shocked if, when the rubber hits the road, 6,500 or 65,000 people committed fraud and received consequential illegal SS benefits because they're listed as 112 or older, much less 6.5 million people. And I'll be flabbergasted if it turns out to be some sort of nefarious Democrat plot.
Here's the way the malfeasance investigation funnel has historically looked:
In Fiscal Year 2022, the SSA OIG received over 100,000 fraud allegations.Of these, OIG agents opened around 7,400 criminal investigations.About 850 people were convicted for Social Security fraud that year.Only a tiny fraction of fraud accusations bear out.
And I literally haven't seen one of these farfetched Musk/DOGE/rando loon fraud accusations on social media that isn't disproven in minutes or hours.
All this USAID stuff is case in point - actors receiving tens of millions from USAID, Jeff Epstein receiving it, Chelsea Clinton... - all of this is fantasy. There hasn't been any corroborated fraud that's come to light (yet), just money spent on things that you or I wouldn't spend it on. That's not fraud.
So yes, shake the "Millions of 112 year old Democrats receiving fraudulent SS benefits" tree and see what falls out. Just don't be shocked when what falls out is nothing like what Musk is pretending it is.
