I don't know, call me old fashioned but failed political dirty tricks vs inciting a riot at the Capitol are two very different things.

I'm sure we'll get an investigation of Adam Schiff after the November elections. Then you can have your pound of boogeyman flesh
Hokie, are you serious?

Adam Schiff is not a boogeyman! He is a liar on the largest order! Adam Schiff, if anyone, should be kicked out of congress! He is a despicable person!
but I think what Hokie is saying is (and he usually says it more succinctly and less confrontationally than me ) ....the Dems are not going to kick one of their own out right now, no more than the GOP would make a move on Trump if he were still in office. That may be the wrong moral compass, but lord knows, the moral compass in DC is pointed way offline anyway.

So when the GOP wins the House in NOV, I'm sure they'll exact some revenge and pursue the guys who gave some incindiery comments about the SC Justices
Which sucks because that will escalate matters to the point where this nation is in perpetual civil war via the two Parties, and it's a Catch-22 because if the GOP doesn't do those things, as it will only embolden the radical bullies running the Dems to escalate their hateful behavior to ever higher levels of outrage when they return to power because they know they'll pay no price for it when they're out of power.

And if the Republicans do exercise any dirty of revenge, you'll have the rhetoric from the Dems and media talking about the overreach and tyranny that is happening. Just wait for it!

It's a bit hard to answer a question that is predicated on fiction. However, the answer could just as easily be that anyone is better than what we have now.

The thing I'm interested in watching, should November go the way most are thinking, is for the Democrats to start right back utilizing all the things they're screaming about now. The filibuster being #1. That thing will be in full light speed after saying they need to get rid of it the last year and a half.
LOL, ain't it true. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Same story we see for gerrymandering, the POTUS executive orders, etc

You know what I find interesting…. I think most everyone has stated that actions on Jan 6th were not good. I'm n fact, those that broke into the Capital and damaged it should be prosecuted and held responsible. No one is disagreeing with this!

Now, we may have a disagreement on whether or not Trump caused these actions. That, in my mind, is a fair disagreement.

What I find this interesting is that we have people sitting in jail, for over a year, without being brought up under charges and they are still sitting. Where is the outrage by folks (non Trump supporters) on this?

Also, where is the outrage on the way this committee was created? Nancy, on her own, selected everyone. Shouldn't that cause concerns for a fair hearing?

Add in Schiff. He, damn near, single-handedly caused the Russia story to gain and then maintain a life of its own. A story that everyone knew was a fake story; however, they drug the country through a horrible cycle, for four years.

We should be able to have a fair discussion; however, how do to views bridge the gap between the bid and the ask? I don't know…

The fencing around the Capitol was pulled back. The Capitol doors were opened a people waived in. I don't agree Cary. I think if there was violence or damage done to access then I agree.

I was there and I've not seen anyone else on this site say they were. I can tell you that whether it was 1 million or 2 million there that the vast majority were just like me and my NP 64-yr old sister ......peacefully assembling and protesting. I bet there wasn't 1 or 2 thousand people that actually went inside and I bet that 75% followed others in or were waived in. I was only on the Supreme Court side and I don't think anyone got inside on the SC side......there was certainly a group at each door trying to push through the Capitol Police blocking each door. Some guy with a bullhorn orchestrated the "charge" event when the fence was pulled back. There seemed to be a group of men that appeared from the rear of the crowd that moved forward on this guy's directives to 'charge'. I think the guy was probably Ray Epps cohort and possibly the group of younger men too....

Check out this info.........its consistent with quite a bit of video.

Until we get the full info from the FBI on who they had in the crowd and what they were doing, and what the communications were from Pelosi and the Capitol Sargeant at Arms in the days leading up to Jan 6th, I can't trust any narratives coming out of this.

It has been said that the FBI knew of events that were leading up to Jan 6. Many of the politicians were given the Intel. If they knew this, why wouldn't they have extra security? Too many of the current narratives don't add up.

The narrative that is considered by many conspiratorial, actual does add up at this time.

werewolf, I actually agree with you and don't think we are saying anything that is in conflict. We are dealing with a small percentage of people that went into the Capital. We are also dealing with a small percentage of people that did some level of destruction in and/or around the Capital. Additionally, some percentage of people that went into the Capital were actually allowed in.

So, we have that in agreement, I hope. Also, I hope you recognize that some damage was done at the Capital. For that damage, those people should be prosecuted.

As far as some of these other charges like obstructing congress from doing their work... well, to me, that one is a stretch...

Agree; there was damage. I don't know if I've ever mentioned it here but when I parked on the Va side of the Potomac since I had weapons in the truck I encountered an Antifa guy with his pads and helmet etc in the parking deck. He minded his business and made it to the train ahead of us. Antifa - if the helmet and pads are indicative - was numerous. I would guess I saw a few dozen with the all the pads/helmets etc.

This. The FBI has been weaponized against the Constitution and the American people. They're harassing parents of school children now, and that alone should be grounds for the dissolution of the Agency, or drastic reduction of its mission scope and elimination of its arrest powers.

Werewolf, I wished you would have stopped at your first sentence, then commented on that. For me, that was the point I was trying to make, in order, for some, to fully understand certain people, like you and I, do see problems with Jan 6th. I think that conversation could actually bridge a gap with others on the board, in a few areas.

Once we have agreement, on one piece of the story, we can then ask for agreement, if people will actually recognize, there is more to the story.

I was not there, like you; however, I know you and I have watched and/or read from the same places. For that, you and I are in agreement about that day and leading up to that day. I don't want to argue with certain people here and hope alignment can happen. If not, well... we tried.

https://www.nationalreview.com/2022/07/the-university-of-michigans-cancel-culture-problem-it-has-real-consequences/

Quote:

Another member of the faculty to feel the wrath of the outrage mobs is psychology lecturer Eric Fretz. Though he indicated his support for the "equity goals" of the university, he expressed concern to NR about the methods by which the administration is pursuing them. For each of his classes, he includes a disclaimer in his syllabus that apologizes for the possibility of "soft sexism," but even this has caused problems for him.

"Born in the 1960's," it reads. "The end of the era for all moms being at home, all textbooks showing only male scientists, etc. You never escape your youth. I try to do a good job being balanced with my examples and being sensitive to social justice issues. If I say something that annoys you, or use all male examples during a lecture, feel free to call me on it."

Fretz said one student took offense at that passage and brought it up to him, and he asked for her feedback in changing it. He told the student to "tell me how I should express this concept: I'm open to being corrected." Unfortunately, he told NR, "there was no engagement. That was apparently not a goal of hers."

After the meeting, he said, she attempted to incite outrage in the class group chat. When other students did not see the problem with it, she took her case to the university's Office for Institutional Equity (OIE), which handles complaints of racial and gender discrimination and sexual misconduct. The office proceeded to investigate Fretz.

Representatives from the department requested a meeting with Fretz, telling him, "There's been a complaint," he told NR. Although Fretz's attendance would be completely voluntary, he felt that the process carried an "implied threat," with the officers insinuating that refusal to participate would have negative consequences.

At the meeting, which he called "bizarre," the representatives laid out the student's complaint about the offending text. Fretz then shared his side of the story, including information about his conversation with the student and her efforts in the group chat. The representatives did not take official action against him, but they told him he should put a section in the syllabus encouraging students to contact OIE if there are any problems.

"I was appalled," Fretz said. "I said, 'Excuse me, are you telling me to put a phrase in my syllabus asking my students not to talk to me, but to report me to the university's investigation arm that's in charge of investigating rapists and sexual abusers?'"
Quote:

For some scholars, this type of culture has grown intolerable, and the status quo may become unsustainable, with the students' bad behavior encouraging faculty members to leave.

"I really don't know how much longer I can bear being employed by the University of Michigan," said Fretz, the psychology teacher. "The administrators absolutely do not care. You're presumptively the bad guy."
Quote:

Locals living in the southeastern part of the Lower Peninsula have nicknamed the University of Michigan the "People's Republic of Ann Arbor."

Conundrum
The definition is something that is puzzling or confusing.
Here are 6 Conundrums of socialism in the USA.
1. America is capitalist & greedy, yet half of the population is subsidized.
2. Half of the population is subsidized, yet they think they are victims.
3. They think they are victims, yet their representatives run the government.
4. Their representatives run the government, yet the poor keep getting poorer.
5. The poor keep getting poorer, yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.
6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about, yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

Judge James C. Ho of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit announced Thursday that he would no longer be hiring law clerks from Yale Law School and urged other judges to follow suit. In a keynote address to the Kentucky Chapters Conference of the Federalist Society, titled "Agreeing to Disagree Restoring America by Resisting Cancel Culture," Ho cited a number of high-profile examples of speakers being shouted down or otherwise censored at law schools across the country but singled out Yale Law as "one particular law school where cancellations and disruptions seem to occur with special frequency."

"Yale not only tolerates the cancellation of views it actively practices it," Ho said, according to prepared remarks exclusively obtained by National Review. "Starting today, I will no longer hire law clerks from Yale Law School. And I hope that other judges will join me as well."

There's a loose but growing coalition of lefties out there, artists and writers and academics and professionals, who've drawn sympathetic attention from conservatives after being publicly shamed out of the progressive clubhouse (that is, by the type of progressive who thinks there is a clubhouse, which is of course part of the problem). It's remarkably easy these days to be named an apostate on the left. Maybe you were critical of the looting and rioting that devastated cities in the wake of George Floyd's murder by police in 2020. Maybe you were skeptical of this or that viral outrage: Covington Catholic, or Jussie Smollett, or the alleged racial abuse at a BYU volleyball game that neither eyewitness testimony nor video evidence could corroborate. Maybe you were too loud about the continued need for due process in the middle of #MeToo. Maybe you wouldn't stop asking uncomfortable questions about the proven value of certain divisive brands of diversity training, or transgender surgeries for kids, or come the pandemic masking. Maybe you kept defending the right to free speech and creative expression after these things had been deemed "right-wing values" by your fellow liberals.
This is a very interesting piece written by Kat Rosenfield, who is indeed a liberal, but has some observations to make about the team nature of politics these days. Kat is a bit long winded but interesting nonetheless.
