He saw something shiny out of the corner of his eyes, got distracted and didn't realize that all the rest of the cool kids were still following the script that he was given before the event started (and HIS staff wrote and reviewed with him in advance)... fortunately though, "Willow" drifted over his way and asked Pops to come back over to participate with everyone else.
