Debut of @LaLigaEN on ABC on Sunday afternoon, which featured @FCBarcelona (without Leo Messi) vs. @RealSociedadEN, averaged just 465,000 viewers.

Meanwhile, NBCSN on Sunday averaged 818,000 for @SpursOfficial-@ManCity (best opening weekend @premierleague match yet on cable TV) https://t.co/2biCgO1rTq

I just can't see ESPN being very successful with LaLiga -- especially when they can't market Messi. Seems they'd have been better off to outbid NBC for EPL.

ETA: Though I"m glad ESPN didn't get EPL....I like the way it covers, its pregame folks, and the different delivery options NBC has

NBC has top notch EPL coverage. Becks and the Two Robbie's are great in the studio. The game announcers, whether Arlo/Lee/Graham or Drury/Beglin or the guys from the England feeds, are all great.

I told someone this weekend that Rebecca Lowe might be one of the best lead hosts around for sports. I wish Ray Hudson would be hired as a commentator but I understand that he rubs people the wrong way kind of like Dick Vitale. His XM show is great in the morning though just talking football.

100%. They are all so good, and let the game talk for itself.

Poor Norwich....as reward for winning Championship and getting auto-promoted, they get to open with a resurgent Liverpool, then an angry MCI, and then Arsenal in its first 3 games.

Is anyone still afraid of Arsenal? That's about like playing Southampton now isn't it? Haha

Fair enough. Certainly the name outpaces the performance right now....they are getting completely outclassed by Chelsea right now

I assume you mean for qualifying? The WC is not until late '22.
US begins qualifying in early Sept, so this would be impactful, especially if other European leagues got on board.

news report said something about red line countries, but did not explain and I have not looked yet for clarification

Here's the UK's red list: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/red-amber-and-green-list-rules-for-entering-england#red-list-rules

The big news maker with this was Liverpool's decision to keep Mo Salah, an Egyptian international, from travelling for Egypt's qualifier as Egypt is a red line.

If you travel to a red-list country, you can't re-enter unless you are a British or Irish national - meaning a player like Mo Salah would not be able to return to Liverpool.

For reference, the USA is an amber-list country, meaning that foreign nationals can actually re-enter the UK depending on vax status/negative test etc. So theoretically, Chelsea could let Pulisic return to the US and potentially only need to quarantine or provide a negative test.

Re: Pulisic -- apparently just had Covid?

Yep, he had a positive test. Fully vaxed and asymptomatic. My understanding though is he could still be cleared by the 29th so he could travel and report to the US team. So I think it's a wait and see thing right now with Pulisic. I'd like to think if cleared, he'd make every effort to participate in the qualifier. We can't have another debacle like 2018.

yeah, I"d heard asymptomatic. Absolutely, we need him here, and this is his opportunity to make himself into a legend. I think with a full roster, we'll do quite well thru CONCACAF
