Saw that Laurel Hubbard, the trans New Zealand weightlifter, finished without a lift. Her Olympic journey ends with far less drama than it began.
Why did he/she not lift? Not make weight or something?

Trivia time! There are five summer sports the US has never medaled in. Without Googling, can you guess them?

Couldn't physically make a valid lift. In three tries, I think.

Ohhhhh, i interpreted your initial note as didn't even try a lift....but just couldn't successfully complete one! I'm not sure either side of the controversy about allowing that into women's sports got what they wanted out of that result

ETA: Though Flossy's response is for the Win, LOL.

Xander Schauffele just won the Gold in Golf. And I seem to recall we used to be pretty dominant in men's water polo (talk about an exhausting sport!!!)

Ping pong sounds like a legit guess (does Forrest Gump count??). And since I actually watched a match, I'd guess fencing? Seems like a European sport. Maybe one of the canoe races? Bound to be a newer sport too

Men's 4x100m relay team didn't even advance from the semis. Can't remember the last time that happened.

And somebody finished 11th out of 12th in the hammer throw and still got attention for it... not going to even type her name here though.

That's actually really close. The sports are: Handball, badminton, table tennis, rhythmic gymnastics, and trampoline. (I didn't know trampoline was an Olympic event.)

Barely. And only because the officials let the Americans get away with egregious hand-checking and other fouling, while not allowing the other team to do so - similar to how officiating has operated in the ACC in games against Duke/Unc.

Elliot Kipchoge wins the men's marathon for the second Olympics in a row. Dude ran a sub-five mile from 25 to 26. All the leaders average close to a five minute mile for the whole race. These guys are insane athletes. I'm in awe.

It's absurdly ridiculous. And really, it's difficult to appreciate how fast they are running on open streets. If they were instead on a track, at a 4:50 mile, you'd see how much they are hoofing it to make that pace.
I can't even begin to imagine how those guys get to the point of doing 26 miles like that (I'd be impressed with one mile like that!!)

Haven't watched much of the Olympics until last night and today and was telling my wife how sad it is that they have built all these beautiful facilities at billions of $, and some of them may never be filled up with fans
