He did that because of your ranting diatribe about Trump. I guess you just to one-up him, huh?Civilized said:pineknollshoresking said:Notice how Civ only pulls out Republicans in his list...Civilized said:PackFansXL said:Hey Civ,Civilized said:pineknollshoresking said:Civ, I'm glad this is so enlightening for you. I believe it is nothing short of a witch hunt!!! These people, in NY, need to be eradicated from society. They are low lives...Civilized said:
Add this to Trump's list of accomplishments to consider when deciding whether to hitch your cart to his horse in 2024...
Potential disbarment of his buddy Rudy.
a New York appellate court concluded that "there is uncontroverted evidence" that Giuliani "communicated demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers and the public at large in his capacity as lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump and the Trump campaign in connection with Trump's failed effort at reelection in 2020."
Given how unhinged and unbelievable Guiliani and Powell sounded as they tried to enable Trump's election fraud fantasies, this ruling sounds about right.
Four years of Trump's crazy lies about everything under the sun must have fooled you into thinking that people in power can stand in front of cameras in positions of power and influence and lie over and over and over without repercussions.
"The hallmark of our democracy is predicated on free and fair elections. False statements intended to foment a loss of confidence in our elections and resulting loss of confidence in government generally damage the proper functioning of a free society."
Very well said by the court.
This is no witch hunt. Actions have consequences.
The consequence of Trump's crazy conduct was an old and mediocre candidate beating him in the election.
Giuliani and Powell's consequences were billion-dollar lawsuits levied against them, and now evidently potentially disbarment. Their lies were extremely dangerous and damaging, and obviously ran afoul of the professional ethics they once swore to uphold.
There have to be consequences for that significant a breach of public trust.
Why in the world they thought their conduct would not come back to bite them will never be understandable. What, exactly, did they think they'd get out of their lies?
Ever heard of Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Barry Obama, Cuomo brothers, "news" anchors for any major network or cable channel, UNC-CH coaches and administration, etc.? Most if not all those individuals have continued to escape punishments or even much scrutiny while enjoying press adoration.
I agree that lies matter, but when there is an army of ink spewing minions twisting and turning every word into some imagined malfeasance, you are going to leave behind a bad impression, regardless of the truth. Let's at least attempt some balanced perspective here.
Definitely. Standard politicians, all. Truth benders/liars, all. Along with Ronald Reagan, HW, W, Mitch McConnell, Lindsay Graham, Jesse Helms, etc. Lying politicians isn't unique to one side of the aisle. You don't hear me talking about "normal" politicians on either side of the aisle nearly as much because they're all within a standard deviation from the norm.
No other politician, especially President, on either side of the aisle in history has ever assaulted and damaged American trust in free and fair elections the way that Trump's ridiculous repeated complete fabrications about election fraud did.
It's impossible to overstate how much his completely baseless and self-serving campaign eroded, and is still eroding, faith in our system.
Exactly. That was my whole point. XL's list had only libs.
