I agree with you that marijuana should be legal but heavily regulated and taxed out the wazoo. I frequent Michigan for work and they legalized it a few months, maybe a year or so ago. There are "provision shops" scattered across the state.

It's fully legal for recreational and medicinal use. But... they also left it up to the individual counties, municipalities, townships as to whether or not they can have "provision shops" there. I don't think there are as many as you would expect.

Most places have voted to keep it out of their towns.

But to liken 2nd Amendment Rights to growing pot in the basement... well.... you saw the post.

marijuana should not be heavily regulated and taxed, otherwise it will turn into what California has where the black market is out pacing the legal market because of a heavy hand of regulations and taxes.

If you are allowed to legally grow your own plants you won't have to buy it at the provision shops. You should get out more often. Most states that have legalized it are making a mint on taxes.

Using California for ANY reference on how government is run disqualifies anything else you have to say.

I don't smoke cigarettes. Never have. Go and buy a pack of cigarettes in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, New York, New Jersey and see what the difference in price is compared to NC or SC. Taxes on "sin" items keep taxes on things everyday people utilize down. Econ 101.

Regulated means how much you can legally possess at one time or purchase at one time. If it's not you set up the entire "boot leg" operations that existed in dry counties and states post-prohibition.

Come on' man.... use your hokie brain.

It appears governments are doing a similar thing with pot, as they did with alcohol. With alcohol, you need all these special permits/taxes in order to produce alcohol (to sell to the public), and they make it "illegal" to produce and sell it without all these special permits (eg, as "moonshiners" do). Other than the government wanting a huge cut of the money involved, a major reason this is done is because they want to create a huge barrier to entry to get into the market, so that the "small time average Joe" can't just start producing his own alcohol (or pot) and selling it. This is a way for the big companies already entrenched in the industry to protect their profits.

Look, I'm not ardent enough of a gun contrarian to argue this. I fully assume all of you here are law-abiding gun owners and will never have a lapse and do something bad.

But though I"ve never read where the 2A "explicitly says you can have military-grade guns" like GP says (clearly, thats his interpretation), I don't think ARs were commonly used military-grade weapons back in 1791.

I was asked what I believe in...i agree with Pineking on a lot of points, just think we as a country could do a lot more about preventing so many deaths from guns.
You really don't think things through before you post do you? I am hoping like hell for your sake that you are on some damn good 10 hour drinking binge. If not, like I said before, you should sit this one out. Nice edit on your earlier post about "high repeating rifles.."

Glad to see you did some research and you were able to learn something. I may try to add that to my signature line... I asked my 10 year old daughter what that was and she looked at me like I was crazy. And for good reason. She knows more about guns than you do and she's not on a message board trying to play "Mr. Know It All" on guns.

Now... for your next lesson. What guns do you think were used in the military in the 1700's?

I am not going to tell you. Look it up.

I will tell you this. They were the SAME guns that the colonists, settlers, British Army, French Army and pretty damn sure every army that had rifles used in the 1700's.

Today, in America, we do NOT use the types of guns that the military use for the most part. There are certain exceptions but I would wager that we have access to less than 20% of the same firearms that the military utilize across the different branches.

And... guess what? WE as AMERICANS are NOT allowed to purchase or own, without a permit, a "fully automatic" gun. Some states won't even allow them at all. Those are MILITARY GRADE WEAPONS... your typical AR rifle is NOT what ANY member of ANY branch of the military would ever use.

Keep flailing... it's damn entertaining. And hopefully, like I said, you are 10 sheets in the wind. If you aren't, lie and say you are.
Ask your daughter if it also sounds crazy that we have 2x more gun deaths per 100 people than lovely Yemen, 3x more than Serbia and Montenegro. Vacation destinations, if ever there were ones.

Only 14,000 Americans are murdered per year using firearms. Per CDC stats: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/homicide.htm

Compare that to ~37,000 Americans killed in automobile accidents per year, ~80,000 drug overdose deaths per year, 480,000 deaths per year in the US from cigarette smoking, etc.

Where is the Leftist hysteria calling for a ban on cars or smoking?

Why is it all about AR-15s, when those are probably only used in around 50 homicides per year?

Ohh, but they say "even 50 is too many" and look at those poor children killed, so "do it for the children". As if the same people who champion mass murdering over 600,000 unborn children per year give one rats behind about the lives of children.

80,000 drug overdoses and the people calling for banning guns are calling to legalize drugs. Lol. The AR15 is their whale. There should be no compromise from the right on this. I'm fine with getting rid of whatever supposed trade show loophole there is. I don't think we need to enact more restrictions on mentally fit, law abiding citizens from getting weapons though. Especially with how enabled the left has become.

People are calling for legal recreational opioids?
As much as I hate to respond to you I will never miss the opportunity to point out to every one just exactly how you post just to troll. It would have taken you as much time to google search to find out the answer. But yet you wanted to try and look like you have a "gotcha" moment like your lefty MSM overlords.

Here's to more egg on your face....

https://drugpolicy.org/press-release/2021/02/drug-decriminalization-oregon-officially-begins-today

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/11/04/election-drugs-oregon-new-jersey/

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/could-oregons-decision-to-decriminalize-hard-drugs-provide-a-model-for-the-country

I even linked two of your SOCIALIST MSM propaganda sites so you wouldn't dispute the information. We all know you read something from your MSM overlords you slurp it up like its....a milkshake.

In your usual rush to own a libtard you're ignoring the nuance of the issue and the nuance of my question.

I asked the question because packgrad made it seem like the left was perversely perfectly fine with current rates of drug overdoses or that they were even encouraging more by 'legalizing' hard drugs.

It's a bogus argument.

It conflates the relatively popular movement to legalize recreational marijuana with the almost nonexistent calls to fully legalize hard drugs.
It glosses over the major differences between legalization and decriminalization of hard drugs.
It implies that any such movement, including Oregon's decriminalization stance, is callous and clearly likely to result in more overdoses.

First, Oregon isn't legalizing heroin and other hard drugs. Possessing larger quantities of hard drugs will still result in charges, and selling is still a felony.

As the articles describe, if you simply get caught with a small quantity of hard drugs, you'll be connected with treatment, peer support and recovery services, harm reduction and other health services, and housing and job assistance. Services will be funded through excess marijuana tax revenue.

The precise intent of Oregon's measure is to combat addiction and harm by ending the cycle of criminality and through focused, responsive intervention for users.

The erroneous implication was that legalization was something the left was interested in just for fun, and that Oregon's stance would clearly do harm. It's not, and although the effect of Oregon's progressive approach is not yet known, we know criminalization does't work worth a damn. The intent is to think and act outside the box, and although it may not work it's a clear lever to pull. The way we've approached drugs for decades hasn't worked. The War on Drugs is lost. We have to innovate in this space if it's ever going to get better.

I'm sure you don't care, but I'm not a strong proponent of gun control. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if there were fewer guns on the streets but I think that, while well-meaning, gun control as a political issue is a very divisive distraction; unlikely to be efficacious; and won't significantly impact rates of all-cause suicide or homicides in this country.

I think mental health and community resources and criminal justice reform that increase health, education, and employment opportunities and reduce the prevalence of drugs, gangs, and poverty in our country is where the action is to reduce drug addiction and gun violence (and all other violence).

One of my best customers is in up in the Petosky, Michigan area. Absolutely beautiful drive up there from Detroit Metro or Lansing Airport.

Next to the Outer Banks it's my second favorite place to vacation and visit.

Those folks up there haven't bothered anyone ever. They have snow on the ground a good 5 months a year and travel 50% of the time then by snowmobile. True story.

They don't bother anyone and they never wore masks during the pandemic. Pretty sure they could care less if weed is now legal. They've been growing it for decades.

And agree with the mantra. If you've never visited that area they are known for specific "strands" of weed that are indigenous to that specific area of the country.

the biggest free market on cannabis in the United States is now Maine. Had a buddy show me some of these "maine farm" groups on facebook....they are literally just growing and selling on facebook like nobody's business. If you want 20lbs of top shelf cannabis for a good price you can literally just shop around on facebook and then go grab it up I-95. Maine is like Colorado on steroids. I've never inferred that from you...you come across intelligent and very knowledgeable of law, constitution, etc....

For the other, the continual repeating of the same tired mantra, lumping even te slightest difference of opinion into some kind of "them" grouping, and avoidance of any fact in some kind of self-congratulatory bloviating, is EXACTLY like Trump.

Good, bad, or indifferent, the portrayal of the standard Trump supporter was an under-educated, 1-talking point moron who hated people different from them (color, ethnicity, opinion) and stayed angry all the time. At least, that was the imagery we continually saw associated with his big crowds. Hear not what anyone else says (watch any Trump debate), just say whatever w/o worry of recourse, etc. That, to me, is exactly how BBG reads.
He went to NC State, I would have assumed for better.

ETA: And I don't mean this to necessarily single out a poster, but his approach to discussion, IMO, is all that is wrong in American discourse in the 2020s....and reflects the complete dumbing down of debate. Hell, if I didn't know any better we have ourselves a sheep in wolves clothing! He damn sure "baaaaaaas" like them with those comments. Where else do you hear that type of talk? It damn sure isn't in Raleigh.

You should come out to Carter-Finley Stadium, that's where State plays football at FYI, and spout off some of your nonsense there. Start telling folks about those dangerous "high repeating rifles..." and calling them REDNECKS.... that'll go over quite nicely!

Pretty sure we have us one of those there millenial types. You know.. the funny lookin' ones wearing those jeans that they borrowed from their wives.... Excuse me if I have adjusted my vernacular to better fit his stereotype of a "REDNECK."

Hey Packchem... if you are as smart as you think you are do you know how people can tell within 2-3 minutes?

I'll give you a hint. It is how you communicate whether it be verbal or written. Pretty damn sure if anyone is on the lower end of the spectrum it damn sure isn't this here ol' REDNECK.

And to let you know.... I started posting on the old ACC Boards. From the days of statefans.com through all the changes, modifications, different platforms, owners etc... Hell I even check in at the TWW every now and again. I'm curious if you even know what the hell that is.

So.. yeah... I'm OG. I earned it. Sorry you don't like being called a SOCIALIST. Maybe you should embrace it like I have being a REDNECK.

If it was good enough for Charlie Daniels, rest his soul, it's damn sure good enough for me.

I get that leftists like to think that they are "smarter" than conservatives, due to data/surveys that people with higher levels of education vote Democrat at higher rates. But what's actually occurring with higher education (college) is Leftist indoctrination, not true education.

What you have are "educated idiots" being churned out by universities - who've been brainwashed into believing mountains of absurd lies, such as there being over 70 genders, an unborn child "is not a human being", God "doesn't exist", and that we are all evolved apes that came into existence due to random chance after a big explosion.

The right-wing are simply people who haven't fallen for or reject the Marxist-Leftist indoctrination into lies and a completely fallacious worldview that masquerades as "education" and "science".

We can debate legislation and things that should change, but when a sizable chunk thinks that discussion is a move to "wussify the country", we'll just be destined to keep killing people....many of whom are just innocent bystanders.

So your "argument" is that it's wrong to use the phrase "wussification" - presumably because that's silly name-calling or labeling?

Yet, you think that it's just fine and dandy to smear the right-wing as "red-necks"?

And, by the way, far right wingers like my self do not give ONE FLYING FLIP that you call us "rednecks". We take that as a badge of honor, or don't care at all. So you might want to try to come up with a better insult.
It is most certainly the stereotype that was created and propogated by the media of the average Trump supporter. But, point taken, I should use "ignorant" instead.

I get that leftists like to think that they are "smarter" than conservatives, due to data/surveys that people with higher levels of education vote Democrat at higher rates. But what's actually occurring with higher education (college) is Leftist indoctrination, not true education.

What you have are "educated idiots" being churned out by universities - who've been brainwashed into believing mountains of absurd lies, such as there being over 70 genders and that we are all evolved apes that came into existence due to random chance after a big explosion.

The right-wing are simply people who haven't fallen for or reject the Leftist indoctrination that masquerades as "education" and "science".
I agree -- I think the media is the most elite organization in the country. Lot of those guys think they are uniquely intelligent and capable. But they drive the narrative in the country, for the detriment of us all.

But I think you've over simplified the far right wing. There are a lot of uneducated angry people who end up there. But -- the left has plenty of that as well....it is not unique to either party.

I get everything you are saying. Let me tell you about myself, in regards to todays ways:

  • Social Media - I do not have footprint and I don't care
  • Vaccinated - No! I'm on the sidelines watching this whole thing work itself out. BTW, I'm not anti-vaccer.
  • Vaccination documentation - The left wants it badly! Read about the EU's push. It will come here unless more people fight back. This could be one of the single most eradications of our civil liberties ever.
  • Peers - think about it, so what? let them be them and you be you... that is America!!!
  • Trump - Proud supporter!!!
  • January 6th - better start reading more of the real investigative journalist (whether right wing or left wing) to find out what's happening
  • Remember, Trump was called out fr using the term China Virus... guess what? the liberal satirist (bill Mahre, John old daily show guy) are now saying the same thing.
  • Hydroxychloroquine - Remember, everybody laughed at Trump. We should trust the science!!! Well, the science has been on his side the whole time. Some say we could have saved the lives of half that died.
  • Fauci - this guy is a lying scumbag! Remember, the media was arguing; Trump and Fauci in feud... No, Trump probably saw through the guy and was trying to get him out of the way without causing a media fit.

I've said it before, Trump is imperfect; but, who isn't! I would have rather him be sitting with Putin, this past week, than Biden, Obama, The Bush's, Clintons, all together. These people are POLITICIANS! They are not fighters!!!

Get over the antics! Focus on the substance and see who stands the tallest as a President! BTW, real substance as in what matters to all people, not a segment of people.

What do we want? Freedoms, Jobs, homes, families, some a relationship with God, protection, equal access based my qualities (meaning skills, personal accountability).

I get everything you are saying. Let me tell you about myself, in regards to todays ways:

  • Social Media - I do not have footprint and I don't care Probably smart. I like to see friends activities on FB, but avoid news articles and social debates there. Twitter is horrible...but still a good way to follow conversation about games. But I'm not going there to debate people...one way or the other.
  • Vaccinated - No! I'm on the sidelines watching this whole thing work itself out. BTW, I'm not anti-vaccer. Thru fam docs and connections, I asked neurosurgeons, heart surgeon, several family practitioners and internal medicine docs....adn the response was universal, get vaccinated. My opinion is, its foolish not to do so....but, frankly, now that my loved ones are all vaccinated, I don't care.
  • Vaccination documentation - The left wants it badly! Read about the EU's push. It will come here unless more people fight back. This could be one of the single most eradications of our civil liberties ever. Given the volume of people across all political spectrums who don't have one, that type of change would certainly upheave life as we know it. I'm fixing to fly to a country where very few people have been vaccinated to work with them to help repair hurricane damage....but I'm ok with that because I'm vaccinated. Let people be people at this point.
  • Peers - think about it, so what? let them be them and you be you... that is America!!!
  • Trump - Proud supporter!!! Supported much of his policies, abhor the man. Think he is the living, breathing example of a person who brings out the worst in people, which is one reason his staff turnover was multiple times worse than any other POTUS. You can disagree, this is my opinion, and when coupled with his ongoing feud with all the media (which I can very much appreciate) is why we are more divided than in decades.
  • January 6th - better start reading more of the real investigative journalist (whether right wing or left wing) to find out what's happening Based on my opinion above, my opinion here is that "fighter" you love did what he did best -- brought out the worst in a group of already angry people. My opinion is his words fueled much of what happened. Angry people are easy to inspire to action. I don't think he meant it, just think it was more of his carelessness. Coudl there have also been left-wing intrusion in that -- of course. So the GOP, if it really believes Dem leaders / supporters caused it, shoudl be pushing for a commission, not shutting it down?
  • Remember, Trump was called out fr using the term China Virus... guess what? the liberal satirist (bill Mahre, John old daily show guy) are now saying the same thing. Sorry, the POTUS and Bill Mahre are held to 2 different standards. Words matter, especially from the leader of the free world. Frankly, that whole debate is a bit of a distraction anyway....while I think it was wrong to ever trust the Chinese, and think it is likely the lab was a source, what does that have to do with preparation for, and fighting the virus here? We were clearly slow to ramp up. Did that cost lives? I don't know....but 600k Americans would have still died (I also believe not all of those were due to Covid) wherever it started.
  • Hydroxychloroquine - Remember, everybody laughed at Trump. We should trust the science!!! Well, the science has been on his side the whole time. Some say we could have saved the lives of half that died. Not sure what to believe here. I don't think the medical guys on this board were big advocates, but I never asked. I know this, if I had a family member dying, I'd be willing to try anything.
  • Fauci - this guy is a lying scumbag! Remember, the media was arguing; Trump and Fauci in feud... No, Trump probably saw through the guy and was trying to get him out of the way without causing a media fit. Unsure about Fauci. Clearly he was political, but then, who among us is not. Does that mean he gave incorrect medical guidance? I don't buy that. Could his guidance have changed....sure, but for God's sake, I'd have been more disappointed if medical guidance didn't change over time, given the nature of this virus -- and as we see, it continues to change. Sure, maybe Trump saw thru him. Or, having worked with a number of POTUS, maybe Fauci saw what Trump was, and treated him differently? As for the source....again, thats for historical purposes, not defining how to keep Americans alive.

I've said it before, Trump is imperfect; but, who isn't! I would have rather him be sitting with Putin, this past week, than Biden, Obama, The Bush's, Clintons, all together. These people are POLITICIANS! They are not fighters!!! I agree.

Get over the antics! Focus on the substance and see who stands the tallest as a President! BTW, real substance as in what matters to all people, not a segment of people. My opinion is that antics are absolutely a role of the POTUS. Beat people up in the background all you want, but as leader of free world, you ahve expectations of leadership. He was divisive, and you'll never change my opinion on that (sure, the media 100% fueled that, but he could never step away from that, like a 4-yr old, he had to keep pushing back). Words matter, and his words often caused discord. BTW, I feel same way about HRC. She was terrible. Her Deplorable comments were equally as bad as what Trump did.....and it contributed greatly to her losing, IMO.

What do we want? Freedoms, Jobs, homes, families, some a relationship with God, protection, equal access based my qualities (meaning skills, personal accountability). Agreed, and it is my opinion, but if Trump were not a divider, but instead an actual inspirer as POTUS, he could have built off of the improvements he'd made in many of the above items, and he'd still be POTUS. You can think differently, and thats ok.

Packchem, you are thinking the right way, you just need some simple guidance from proper information. Not what is spoon fed by me and people on this board; rather real information. I can help you look in the right places... You have to form your opinion... Be your own agency!!! LOL, I'm ok, thank you. This board is a distraction....for entertainment purposes, but I'm confident enough in my own capabilities, that re: Trump, I don't plan to change anything i do based on what I read here.

It has been ongoing the last few weeks. This is the same county that fired a teacher and then was forced to rehire him after he opposed their views of transgender policies. They also are the leading the charge in teaching critical race theory and a few of the board members have apologized openly at the beginning of meetings for their "white privilege."

Any of you have inside information where I can get my share of this "white privilege" please let me know. I missed my serving of that. Thanks in advance.

Commie puppet in chief Biden gave another speech today outlining his plans to infringe on 2nd Amendment gun rights.

He repeated the lame and ridiculous Leftist mantra that "there is no reason to own guns because you need F-15s or nukes to protect yourself against the government".

Hey geniuses...if we need MORE powerful weapons to protect ourselves against tyrannical government, then that is an argument for LESS gun control, not more. Time to legalize fully auto machine guns, artillery, etc...which I support, btw. The founding fathers owned cannons.
