NC State head coach Will Wade met with Wolfpack Weekly Radio show host Matt Chazanow post game to discuss the 79-71 win over Boston College.
Road win here over Boston College, 79-71 the final. You get 22 points from Darrion Williams. You get 10 assists from Quadir Copeland, four double figure scores. What are your takeaways here from this ball game tonight? Three double figure scorers.
Yeah, it was just a good win for us, not having Tre. I thought our guys played to their strengths. Q was much more under control. We got the ball to Darrion more, which was a focal point.
He played point guard for us, which is something I think we're gonna stick with. Because it forces him to take the ball when sometimes he doesn't. He's not all that forceful. I thought Terrance was awesome. I'm really proud of him. He's been going through a lot of stuff. And for him to respond and we really needed him tonight. He was great. I thought Matt Able gave us really good minutes as well. So I'm just proud of our guys. I mean, 18 assists on 30 main baskets.
Defensively, we've got a lot of stuff we gotta get better at, a lot of stuff we can improve on. We can't give up over 50% in the second half. And we gave up, I mean, Payne goes freaking crazy on us again. But we did do a good job on hand. We didn't foul him a ton. So I thought it was overall solid night, good recovery. And we gotta turn the page and get ready for Florida State on Saturday.
How we lead is only four turnovers. You forced 16 turnovers. I think you only had one in the entire first half.
Yeah, it was really good. Really, really good. I mean, we valued the ball. We took the ball from them. We had 11 steals. So we did a really good job there. We shot it better from three because we moved the ball. I think we're the first high major team to score over 70. I mean, they had their best defense in the league. Score over 70 against them in regulation. We're the only high major team that scored over 70 against them in regulation.
So our guys did a good job moving the ball. Sharing the ball. And we got good looks and knocked them in. So I was certainly pleased with that. That showed quite a bit of progress.
I think you had three weak side offensive rebound dunks tonight. I think Musa had two, I believe Ven had the third. I might even be missing one. Were you really happy with how you had 12 offensive rebounds tonight?
Yeah, we've been trying to, I've been telling our guys we'd be a lot better team metrically if we could get one extra offensive rebound to half. And so 12 is kind of the number. We've been floating around 10 a game. 12 is the number we want. So we did a good job. I thought Musa did a great job. Matt was active. Matt went to the glass. He did a good job. He was active.
So I thought overall it was a very, very, very solid outing on the offensive glass. And we held our own on the glass. They're a good rebounding team. We held our own there.
Coach, I appreciate your time. I'm sorry to keep you from your dance party down in the locker room. I know that you've been bumping this music and you're hoping to get back to it. So I'll let you do that. I appreciate you.
That'll be the last thing I'll be doing, but I appreciate it. And we'll see you Saturday in Tallahassee.
