Currently working on a thread that’s shows while Omicron is more transmissible than Delta, it is LESS fusogenic and LESS pathogenic than both Delta AND ancestral SARS-CoV-2 if it is of any interest.

Well, two weeks ago, tomorrow, I got really sick with cold, flu, fever, severe cough issues. My daughter handled giving me the COVID test and it came back negative. The same daughter went out of town and came back sick. She tested positive for COVID when she got back, multiple times, including a PCR test.
As of today, my wife and my daughter, that lives in NYC have tested positive for COVID. I did a test and it came back negative. My daughter, than administer the test for me, two weeks ago, told us she didn't do my test correct.
So, the thinking is: I was the one that had COVID and passed it to my daughter, who passed it to my wife and other daughter. I'm not testing positive today, so, perhaps I have short-term immunity, because I just had COVID.
Thoughts?
A virus so strong that it can get past 3 vaccines but can’t get past your paw patrol mask.

Yes, @Bob_Wachter, big problem when we don't separate out (in reporting) who is in hospital FOR COVID versus have it in their nose on routine swabbing but there for something else (WITH COVID)- Omicron transmissible, can be in nose; makes vaccine effectiveness look worse than is https://t.co/tv4J37RBy8

As most everyone on this thread knows, I have maintained that schools should have never been closed due to the pandemic and should have been in-person all along. We have examples from other countries that the closing of schools was not appropriate and yet, the US was one of the few Western countries to close public schools (and many privates) for much of the pandemic. The damage done will not be undone and those who made the decision to close schools due to a lack of understanding of science or for political reasons should be held accountable. They have been on the wrong side of the decision and they must be held accountable for the damage they have done.
I invite everyone to take a few minutes to listen to the video from this morning's Face the Nation on CBS. I agree 100% with what was said in this video and it is consistent with what I have been saying since the beginning of the lockdown. The statistics the reporter mentions are heart-breaking.“They will be paying for our generation’s decisions the rest of their lives”: @JanCBS explains why she thinks 2021's biggest underreported story was the devastating impact of COVID policies on children pic.twitter.com/AUU1f6AFNi

It has been obvious to me from early on, when the demographics on infection and deaths became obvious. We know Sweden did not close schools and did so with minimal impact on kids. In the US, people allowed fear to take precedence over science and data. We knew kids were not good vectors for transmission (opposite of the flu), knew the vast majority of kids were asymptomatic (minor infection) and significantly below all other age groups when you look at mortality. We do know kids with comorbidities did have issues and these are the ones we should have taken extra steps to protect.Oldsouljer said:
Probably. And what's pathetic is that she didn't say anything that wasn't glaringly obvious at least a year ago, to anyone paying attention.

Wow. NY state dropped isolation guidelines to 5 days for vaccinated essential workers, including teachers, if staffing shortage, as long as they are asymptomatic or even mildly symptomatic, and no fever 72 hrs. No testing required https://t.co/ToR4bcAI8c pic.twitter.com/ck81ZeErpi

Yeah, that thread got crazy. I mean, the thread was about covid and games?? It was good for a laugh.TheStorm said:
Mandates are still a religion for far too many people on the left… if you want a good laugh go visit the Bowl Games and Covid cancellations thread on the Football board. Some people have no common sense whatsoever.

As most of you know, I support vaccinations, but not mandates. I believe vaccines are an important tool in limiting the impact and severity of the virus for all people, and most importantly, for those who are most at risk due to existing health conditions and age. I believe you provide the best information you can to support making a decision to get vaccinated and if you do a good enough job, mandates are not required. A couple of days ago, the NY Times put out some information that shows the mandates are only marginally effective in getting people vaccinated.TheStorm said:

Per NY Times, vaccine mandates have not significantly boosted overall vaccination rates.

I believe Flu A will continue to clog up the system. I read a report two weeks ago that they "guessed" wrong on the strain of flu that would be dominant this year, so the flu vaccine being provided will have little impact on the flu season. Personally, I know two people who got the flu vaccine in late October and both got the flu in late November and the early December. These were both young, very healthy people, so they recovered fairly quickly.Mormad said:
I agree with you. I am pro-vax, anti-mandate to great degree. There are gray areas like health system mandates by employers that i can see both sides.
For all interested:
Quick update from here: lots of sick folks with URIs loading up ERs. It is stressing the system. Flu A and covid are everywhere, and in every age group and demographic. I'll have admission numbers later today. High point ER went on diversion because it was loaded yesterday and funneled patients to med center high point, a tiny little ER. By early afternoon, that little ER had 80 people waiting to be put in rooms, with 60% being CLI. If it runs through the staff at these ERs things could get really ugly for the health systems.
Be ready for it to affect NC State sports.
Everybody should read the article packgrad posted about myocarditis rates. It's really important, and i think vanay Prasad missed some important points. Like with the disease itself, don't get too caught up in the gross case numbers, but details of the cases. These are important considerations for us all as we consider vaccination of youngish males.
A new study shows Omicron infection ENHANCES neutralizing immunity against Delta, ESPECIALLY in those who are vaccinated, suggesting that Omicron will help push Delta out, as it should DECREASE likelihood that someone infected with Omicron will get re-infected with Delta. 🧵

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr: "They are never going to market a vaccine, allow people access to a vaccine, an approved vaccine without getting liability protection. Now the emergency use authorization vaccines have liability protection under the PREP Act and under the CARES Act.
So as long as you take an emergency use vaccine, you can't sue them. Once they get approved, now you can sue them, unless they can get it recommended for children. Because all vaccines that are recommended, officially recommended for children get liability protection, even if an adult gets that vaccine. That's why they are going after the kids. They know this is going to kill and injure a huge number of children, but they need to do it for the liability protection."
