Interesting article. I wonder what prompted the researchers to combine the milk protein (lactoferrin) with Benadryl? Lactoferrin is readily available online (~$30 a bottle) and Benadryl can be purchased everywhere.

We continue to get encouraging news on the Omicron variant and it's lower levels of severity than past variants. I am still optimistic the current Winter wave will not be as severe as last year's Winter wave and not as big an impact to hospitalizations as some of the experts are predicting.

More evidence over the past couple of days showing the Omicron variant is pathogenic than past variants of SARS-CoV-2.

Just clarifying, You mean less pathogenic, right? On a separate note, given the news that a Naval vessel has been taken off line by Covid nailing its fully vaccinated crew, I think the evidence continues to mount that we've been sold a line of crap about a lot of things, Covid-related. I feel for the sailors, particularly as they're back to enduring a worthless mask mandate again. Officers clearly are failing on multiple levels, morale maintenance among them.

Well, two weeks ago, tomorrow, I got really sick with cold, flu, fever, severe cough issues. My daughter handled giving me the COVID test and it came back negative. The same daughter went out of town and came back sick. She tested positive for COVID when she got back, multiple times, including a PCR test.

As of today, my wife and my daughter, that lives in NYC have tested positive for COVID. I did a test and it came back negative. My daughter, than administer the test for me, two weeks ago, told us she didn't do my test correct.

So, the thinking is: I was the one that had COVID and passed it to my daughter, who passed it to my wife and other daughter. I'm not testing positive today, so, perhaps I have short-term immunity, because I just had COVID.

As most everyone on this thread knows, I have maintained that schools should have never been closed due to the pandemic and should have been in-person all along. We have examples from other countries that the closing of schools was not appropriate and yet, the US was one of the few Western countries to close public schools (and many privates) for much of the pandemic. The damage done will not be undone and those who made the decision to close schools due to a lack of understanding of science or for political reasons should be held accountable. They have been on the wrong side of the decision and they must be held accountable for the damage they have done.

I invite everyone to take a few minutes to listen to the video from this morning's Face the Nation on CBS. I agree 100% with what was said in this video and it is consistent with what I have been saying since the beginning of the lockdown. The statistics the reporter mentions are heart-breaking.

The media and politicians with an agenda to keep the fear going continue to focus on cases. The focus should be on hospitalizations and the Case Hospitalization Rate. In the UK, Omicron cases are increasing, but the other metrics show a decoupling from cases - this is GOOD news.

Wayland has argued for a separation of hospitalizations FOR Covid and WITH Covid for months. With Omicron now the dominant variant, it is important for this information to be reported.

It has been obvious to me from early on, when the demographics on infection and deaths became obvious. We know Sweden did not close schools and did so with minimal impact on kids. In the US, people allowed fear to take precedence over science and data. We knew kids were not good vectors for transmission (opposite of the flu), knew the vast majority of kids were asymptomatic (minor infection) and significantly below all other age groups when you look at mortality. We do know kids with comorbidities did have issues and these are the ones we should have taken extra steps to protect.

We knew that keeping kids out of school (online school) would impact the underserved and marginalized communities the most. These were the kids who have fewer resources and limited support in the home. We knew that closing schools and going to online schooling would lead to an increase in child abuse and put kids who live in at risk environments further at risk. Online schooling would impact the level of nutrition for those kids who come from underserved and marginalized communities. We know that kids need school for socialization reasons and it is the younger ages that need it the most. It is also important for the older age groups and the rise in suicide is a direct reflection of this.

I know some of you will try to defend the decision by saying it was the pandemic that forced these decisions, but I am going to respectfully disagree. You do NOT get a pass on this and by saying it is the pandemic's fault, you are just trying to pass the buck and absolve yourself of any responsibility in ruining a generation of students. Maybe it will help you sleep at night, but it does nothing to help the kids who will not recover. Many of us knew the right decision was to keep schools open and were ignored or told the steps were needed to keep kids from dying.

Even today, I am reading headlines from across the nation that some schools will be online until mid-January. Have we not learned anything? Do we not have an abundance of data that says it is wrong? Yes, we have the data and evidence that says it is the wrong decision. Why do we continue to do this? Two reasons - fear and power. For almost two years, the media, politicians, and education leaders have propagated and pushed fear as a way to make more money. They have done so to increase their power over others and to used the fear as a bargaining chip in contract negotiations. Ultimately, they do not care about the kids, the damage they have done, and the damage they continue to do. They only care about power and money. It is disgusting and I have zero respect for anyone who did this to the kids.

It appears the tide is starting to turn. Yesterday, I provided the video from a CBS reporter that lays out the issues. Today, I will provide you with another op-ed that shows the tide may be turning in the media.

Maryland school districts are harming children when they close their doors

The Tweet below shows you the evidence that politicians and teacher's unions are more concerned about contract negotiations than they are science and the impact of policies on kids.

The guidelines being implemented in NY should apply to all people, not just essential workers. It is time to adjust protocols, based on what we know today, not what we did not know a year ago.

So……

Treat it like we've been treating illness for the last forever years. Got it.

But, I'd add, the next step is to stop the mass testing. There is zero reason for anyone to test unless doctors need to know in order to administer medical aid.

6.1 deaths per 100k...I will take my chances without a vaccine. We have blown this out of proportion and I have my guesses as to how and why but will keep those to myself. If those numbers are correct, we need to stop with the mandates and get on with our lives. We don't promote healthy life choices, yet push moderately effective vaccines on people for a virus which kills 6.1 people out of 100k? I have to be interpreting that wrong. Wow.

In Israel, they are now considering giving a fourth booster dose, but some scientists in Israel are concerned about the effects on the immune system. You can read the full article from the NY Times below. I have listed a few key points from the article:

1. Some in Israel who are pushing for a fourth booster, believe it is necessary to control the Omicron variant.
2. Some scientists believe too much boosting will cause a "sort of immune system fatigue" that will lessen the bodies ability to fight the coronavirus.
3. Despite the concern of scientists, the political leaders in Israel are moving forward with plans for a fourth vaccine (seem to be moving forward, in spite of science and evidence it will help).
4. A British report indicates the boosters are less effective against the Omicron variant and the effectiveness wears off faster.

You can read the full article at the following link:
Israel considers 4th vaccine dose, but some experts say it's premature

I'm no DR, but it seems like some of these people's answer to everything is shot after shot. I mean how many boosters does one need. It seems like the booster is less effective. Crazy.

Mandates are still a religion for far too many people on the left… if you want a good laugh go visit the Bowl Games and Covid cancellations thread on the Football board. They whined so incessantly that they got the board's most "politically impartial" moderator to lock the thread… some of them were literally SCREAMING for the thread to be locked!

Some people have no common sense whatsoever.

As most of you know, I support vaccinations, but not mandates. I believe vaccines are an important tool in limiting the impact and severity of the virus for all people, and most importantly, for those who are most at risk due to existing health conditions and age. I believe you provide the best information you can to support making a decision to get vaccinated and if you do a good enough job, mandates are not required. A couple of days ago, the NY Times put out some information that shows the mandates are only marginally effective in getting people vaccinated.

Looks like there is a lot more Delta variant circulating than the CDC estimated last week. They have revised their estimates down for the amount of Omicron in circulation. Based on this revision, Delta is still a problem and I would assume, is still contributing to a significant amount of Covid hospitalizations.

Also, this is a pretty significant revision. The CDC needs to be better and get this information right.

I agree with you. I am pro-vax, anti-mandate to great degree. There are gray areas like health system mandates by employers that i can see both sides.

For all interested:

Quick update from here: lots of sick folks with URIs loading up ERs. It is stressing the system. Flu A and covid are everywhere, and in every age group and demographic. I'll have admission numbers later today. High point ER went on diversion because it was loaded yesterday and funneled patients to med center high point, a tiny little ER. By early afternoon, that little ER had 80 people waiting to be put in rooms, with 60% being CLI. If it runs through the staff at these ERs things could get really ugly for the health systems.

Be ready for it to affect NC State sports.

Everybody should read the article packgrad posted about myocarditis rates. It's really important, and i think vanay Prasad missed some important points. Like with the disease itself, don't get too caught up in the gross case numbers, but details of the cases. These are important considerations for us all as we consider vaccination of youngish males.

I believe Flu A will continue to clog up the system. I read a report two weeks ago that they "guessed" wrong on the strain of flu that would be dominant this year, so the flu vaccine being provided will have little impact on the flu season. Personally, I know two people who got the flu vaccine in late October and both got the flu in late November and the early December. These were both young, very healthy people, so they recovered fairly quickly.

As to myocarditis rates, I still believe doses of the vaccine should be spaced out to 8 weeks instead of 3-4 weeks. It could actually provide a stronger immune response and also, limit the chances of myocarditis in young males.

The PREP Act provides immunity from liability for the COVID-19 vaccinators. The purpose of the law is to protect Big Pharma.

Robert F. Kennedy recently revealed why Big Pharma and Dr. Fauci are going after the children and babies. Because the vaccines that are recommended for children get liability protection.
Advertisement - story continues below

Quote:

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr: "They are never going to market a vaccine, allow people access to a vaccine, an approved vaccine without getting liability protection. Now the emergency use authorization vaccines have liability protection under the PREP Act and under the CARES Act.
So as long as you take an emergency use vaccine, you can't sue them. Once they get approved, now you can sue them, unless they can get it recommended for children. Because all vaccines that are recommended, officially recommended for children get liability protection, even if an adult gets that vaccine. That's why they are going after the kids. They know this is going to kill and injure a huge number of children, but they need to do it for the liability protection."
