It's the same with Florida. Why are they not mentioned in the news every day? It's all about fear and control. They want you afraid so they can control you. Aka, mandates.

That's awesome, we should strive to be like them. Norway has fully vaccinated 86.6% of their population and over 90% have at least one shot.

How do you propose doing that? Forcing people to get vaccines that they do not want? Take jobs away from people that do not want to be vaccinated? Is that how you want to "strive"?

US Population 18+ is 79.7% one dose 69.1% fully vaccinated. Combine that with natural immunity and you see the people crying about vaccinating the rest aren't about "science" or "safety", they're about "submission" to government decree.

Oh I'm not proposing anything, just noting that Norway being held up as an example is great but they have a higher vaccination level.

Just note, that is vaccination rate for adults in Norway NOT total population. And what under 18s they have vaccinated are typically one dose.

Typically the places in the U.S. which have some of the highest vaccination rates also seem to want to tend towards being restrictive (S.F., MoCo, etc). So there is kind of a philosophical disconnect there.

But we can look elsewhere to see that other countries (UK, Israel, even starting in the U.S) are seeing heavy caseloads in vaccinated populations.

And even with all those vaccinations, cases the last few weeks appear to be rising in Norway (though currently about half the per capita rate of the U.S.) And without looking into specifics, I think Norway is slightly outpacing Sweden in vaccination rate, but has twice the amount of cases per capita currently.

Either way, so long as we are all to the point that these cases are going to continue to wax and wane in perpetuity (or at least until COVID has run its course since vaccination does not prevent infection beyond a few months).

So, vaccines are available for those that wish to mitigate symptoms, and otherwise, we need to move on.

It was wild man. First shot, had some fatigue and that's about it for around a day. 2nd shot nothing other than an incredibly sore arm for a few days. When I spoke to my Dr about getting the booster, we went through everything and she did warn me that the reaction could be more severe. It was.

My fever spiked around 103 last night and finally broke around 5am this morning. Every joint hurts. And the weirdest symptom was that my chest and abdomen I can only describe it as feeling incredibly bloated which made finding a position to sleep uncomfortable.

This morning, I still feel like I was in a car wreck, but other than that everything else went away.

I'm still glad I got the booster, because I did my research and talked to my physician about it weighed the pros and cons. I feel like you're taking the hard road getting Covid for the antibodies. I felt horrible for about 16 hours, I can't imagine feeling like that for days.

I think this vaccine shouldn't be mandated and I think govt mandates create animosity especially when they don't have a cohesive message about them, which hasn't occurred at any time during this pandemic. You should have the ability to choose to get vaccinated or not, but like I said above being unvaccinated is taking the hard road to immunity.

That's fair - but aren't the waning antibodies consistent with what they're seeing with the other vaccines but not as present in Pfizer/Moderna? Israel also did a 3 week time period between doses vs. at least 4, with the longer duration recommended for building up stronger immunity?

I don't know. It looks like to me to be a shell game.

It looks to me like protection from infection by vaccines will ultimately wane and everyone will have to deal with whatever infection will look like to them at that point.

Maybe it is worth it for some people (particularly at risk) to keep kicking that can down the road 3-4 months at a time in the hopes of better therapeutics. Are there risks to that strategy? I don't know.

Our studies on seroprevalence in the U.S. are crap.

Our data on the long term effectiveness of vaccines is lacking (I get we haven't HAD a lot of time, but some pretty big initial promises were made). Maybe a third dose will be the magical key to lasting immunity... I'll be convinced when I see the real world data because I am not impressed with how the trial data from December 2020/January 2021 has translated to real world efficacy less than a year later.

Our interest in the durability of naturally acquired immunity is almost non-existent.

Maybe they figure all this **** out and a good dosing/vaccine strategy for the next pandemic.

Um, yeah, that sounds terrible. Like you said, better a few hours than a week or longer of feeling rotten but not a fun day for sure.

Glad you're on the upswing today!

I talked to my doc yesterday, he reiterated the main data of efficacy is for immunocompromised and those over 65 who don't have robust immune responses.

He also specifically mentioned that the FDA committee that made these recommendations admitted that they weren't sure if the booster would actually be helpful for other people at this time as the vaccines have continued to show great efficacy in reducing risk of severe illness and death with the primary series in younger people.

At the end of the day, he basically said it likely wouldn't hurt to have it but it really is personal preference for someone in my age/health/circumstance.

An interesting look at UK data broken down per capita. Worth reviewing the whole thread, not just top line.

Not a scientific study, but just observational data.

While there is effectiveness in preventing death (although appears even that to be waning some), the per capita infection rate is higher in their > 40 vaccinated population than in the > 40 unvaccinated.

If this bears out elsewhere, it does ask a good question why we have two sets of rules for vaxed and unvaxed.

Interesting to follow up with this pre-print study which shows VE as negative after 8 months against infection.

Not that I know if there is anything to any of this, but there is so much we don't know. It is obviously pre-print and there is a lot of noise out there.

And I am not at all trying to be all conspiracy theory, as the reduction in severity of outcome from COVID infection from vaccines is evident in the short term .... but what are the consequences of a negative VE for infection for the long run? Are there greater implications outside of COVID?

But even if VE against infection just goes to 0 after a few months? We are just delaying.

Nothing happens in a vacuum.

The majority of actions taken around COVID have been myopic and not looked at consequences (or minimized concern for them) outside the pandemic (be it NPI or pharmacological).

EDIT: Apparently the Swedish study is the hot topic of some today.

There's no point in me trying to get a vaccine for my kids now. They're all at home this week with runny noses. They're also playing, dancing, rough housing (I'm trying to keep them calm), and doing their school work. My daughter now does not feel well but we don't have a confirmed positive with her yet. I hope she has it so we can get it over with in our house. The last thing I want is for 8-10 days to go by and THEN she has it.

I'll say this my kids are barely even acting sick. Yes there are moments but I've seen them much much sicker than this with certain colds, sinus infections, and strep. We had flu run through my house right before COVID really came in mass onto our shores. That was bad... those kids were really sick then. This is frustrating but feeling very lucky to see these kids feeling OK. And as I remind them... missing a little Halloween is disappointing but you can feel good about Christmas!

Ya, after Cary's announcement yesterday Wake County added a banner to their COVID-19 page stating that the mandate wouldn't be lifted until cases hit 50 per 100k per 7 days.

In the article you link, Wake County incorrectly attributes the spike last winter to holiday travel. Plains states actually peaked BEFORE Thanksgiving and saw continued decline through the new year.

Just like cases DECLINED following school openings. These waves are more dependent on seasonal patterns.

While certainly some transmission could be linked to holiday gatherings... as we have seen in schools, these normal activities ARE NOT the primary driver of COVID waves. And the over attribution of viral activity to normal human behavior has been a massive failing in public health and policy.

Quote:

"My biggest fear right now is that we lift it too early and we end up where we were," Baldwin said. "I just want to make sure we are in a safer place, and, when we lift this, we don't have to go back to a mask mandate again."

I am sorry, Baldwin, but mask mandates will do nothing to impact the course of your pandemic curve. You don't have to go back to a mandate because it is literally doing nothing. You can see the communities around you rise and fall regardless of locally mandated NPIs.

Nobody enforces these "mandates". They are not real mandates. There is no enforcement mechanism in the legal "declarations" (official documents). I've read them (for Wake County, Durham, Chapel Hill). In at least one of them, it explicitly said in the document that it was actually only a declaration to encourage "voluntary compliance". There are no penalties for not wearing a mask, such as fines. And they explicitly state that police are not be used to enforce the "mandates". It is only up to businesses to "enforce" them. And most businesses do not even bother trying to enforce them. I've haven't worn a mask one single time in the last two/three months (in Wake, Durham, and Orange counties) since they put out these fake mandates.

Furthermore, you can easily get out of wearing one (if a business happens to ask you to wear one) by simply claiming that you have a health/medical exemption that prevents you from wearing a mask...and the mandate ordinances explicitly state that you do not have to provide any documentation or proof to the business in order to verify your medical condition. It's just on the "honor system". And it's not deceptive. EVERYONE has a legitimate health reason for not wearing a mask -- ie, needing to get proper levels of oxygen, and not breathe in your own recylcled CO2.

If covid was truly this "super deadly" virus and these "vaccines" were truly preventing cases and deaths, then why aren't these 3rd world countries with very low vaccination rates getting absolutely decimated by the Rona? Why, for example, has a country like Nigeria (with only ~2% of its population vaccinated) only had 2,900 deaths from covid during this entire scamdemic/pLandemic? Or how has Egypt (with approxmiately 14% vaccinated) only had 18,000 deaths?

How is it possible that the United States leads the entire world in "covid deaths"...and, for example, the nation of India (with 4 times the population of the U.S.) has only 60% of the covid deaths that the U.S. has?

That is not possible. India has vastly inferior sanitary conditions and medical care. It reeks of an agenda to deliberately inflate/exaggerate the number of cases in the United States (to push a certain tyrannical agenda).
