I'm not surprised that funny numbers are coming out of Mecklenberg County whatsoever. In fact, I'd have been surprised otherwise.
I'm just waiting for them to gin up the idea of a multi-million $$ field hospital again. (while many nurses, and likely doctors) remain furloughed and/or on reduced shifts.

Knightdale has all those deaths because of Wellington Rehab and Healthcare which had 81 cases and 14 deaths. Worst outbreak in Wake County. Also due to their lower population that are more susceptible to congregate outbreaks throwing of their stats. But either way.

Number of people in location per positive case detected:
Knightdale 85 (200 total cases identified)
Raleigh 216 (2176 total cases identified)
Cary 646 (268 total cases identified)

These hospitalizations need to go down. The only bright side is that the % of reporting hospitals has increased each day that the overall number has increased. The number is relatively stable but NEEDS to decline.

The case total is lower than last Friday, so not a new high. That is a positive we see a little case stabilization, maybe.

16 of the deaths reported today are from the last week. There was an adjustment and one death was removed from 5/27. One death reported today was as far back as 5/17, one additional on 5/31.

Deaths are still being driven by congregate facilities.

Of the cases with a reported ethnicity, over 50% of new cases are Hispanic.

Agree...can't wait for Roy to make a state wide mask requirement.... I think the fool is digging his own political grave.

So just to be clear... you think it is a BAD idea to require folks to wear a mask while we continue to reopen the economy? Even though every scientist on the damn planet says it's a GOOD idea. Just want to understand where you're coming from.

They arent enforcing it. From the RaleighNC.gov site:

"Section 3. Implementation. The intent of this declaration is to encourage voluntary compliance with the requirements established herein by businesses and persons within the City of Raleigh. Law enforcement and other public safety and emergency management personnel are strongly encouraged to educate and encourage voluntary compliance with this order. "

He's coming from why didn't the Governor see fit to make such a requirement when the COVID-19 outbreak was at its height?

Such as in a) The initial "Stay At Home" order (ie. highest level of restrictions), or b) when RESTRICTIONS were first relaxed to Phase 1 standards on May 8 and or c) when we went into Phase 2 standards on May 22 (a decision that only he had the power to make)... when Cases/Tests ongoing percentages are STILL LOWER than they were WHEN HE REDUCED US TO PHASE 2 on May 22... and when both Deaths/ Cases and Deaths/Tests ongoing percentages have GONE DOWN 20 out of the last 22 days and 19 out of the last 22 days respectively... (*these are using the Governors OWN numbers by the way).

Yeah? Maybe THAT'S where he is coming from.

Those of us with eyes and a functioning brain and were actually paying attention saw exactly when the "masks" came out... even Biden jumped in ahead of Roy.

Everyone should be required to wear a mask and those who can't afford one, should have it provided.

This should've happened weeks ago.

Completely agree. It's ridiculous that it hasn't happened. It's easy, cheap, and all upside from a health standpoint.

I just walked thru one of the many Targets in Charlotte, and they had an endcap filled with the disposable masks, right next to an endcap where you can get a little bottle of hand sanitizer.
Used to be difficult, but I think they are out there more now

There are lots of online resources for patterns and no-sew options. When Microsoft finishes my update (if it ever does) I can post some links if you want. Target had them recently, 2-packs for $4, but theirs are very thin. I'd definitely want to insert a filter in those. You can buy NC State masks from Wolfpack Outfitters, and there are lots available on Etsy. The ones with exhale valves are not what you want.

I bought a State neck gaiter from the Red And White shop yesterday. Will Roach's company distributes them, and they are made through, I think, Atsur's company in Turkey.

If Cooper feels masks need to become a mandatory requirement going forward based on the current numbers then ABSOLUTELY YES... numbers were worse in the past than they are now.

This is almost only about politics at this point - and it isn't even funny anymore... there are gyms and restaurants on the verge of going out of business all over the state now. Businesses whose owners worked hard and poured all their resources into to build... that was these people's livelihood!!! *Restaurant closings really accelerated this past week btw, but I'm sure that as long as it doesn't impact us personally, that's ok, right?

First they were hamstrung by a pandemic for 2+ months and now they are being held hostage indefinitely by their own Governor because he and his party are fixated on a National Election in November. Be damned whatever collateral damage has to be dealt out to whomever along the way. It's ridiculous.

Took another look at ICU utilization and the spike wasn't as bad as I thought. I was comparing an 88% reporting day to a 73% reporting day. When I went back to the last 80+% day I had data for, just over a week ago, things looked a lot more stable.

Certainly not a decrease, but will take what I can get.

Remember each day has a varying reporting number. 6/8, 6/14, and 6/15 were all below 80%. 6/10 and 6/18 were over 80% reporting. Doesn't look too too bad as far as an increase, these are all serious cases.

Don't understand why people refuse to wear masks in public. We could end dramatically reduce the outbreak and almost completely eliminate the virus if everyone would just get on board with wearing masks in public and avoid large gathers for a couple of weeks. Will never happen though.

100% agree. Science aside, I'd bet it reduces exposure risk by half or more.

Didn't we try something similar for a couple months and the virus was still spreading?

I didn't see that many masks in public personally. I think effort or diligence or compliance (or whatever term makes you feel better) with masking would make a difference.

Everyone was locked down for months. Heard daily "15 to stop the spread" blah blah blah. Nothing changed. It kept spreading just like it will with mask being worn

Not like it is now.

Are you actually arguing we should not need to wear masks?

You've been griping for months to reopen. We have, in many cases. And we should expect some uptick in rates when doing so.
But it isn't asking you, or anyone else, too much to put a mask on so we don't, while going thru opening, putting us back into purgatory?

Actually, I was onboard and supported the shutdown for months. I responded to the never gonna happen comment. We tried all this shut down, wear masks, social distance, etc, etc, and the virus us still spreading. It ain't worked but if you wanna wear a mask, have at it. You ain't stopping this just like you ain't stopping the flu.

Wearing my masks may not stop it, but it might keep it away from a few people. It's worth it to me.
