Durham reinstating mask mandate. This is why people should quit bending the knee. It will never end.

Precisely. The rural counties around Durham aren't doing that with certain exceptions, and in Granville where the local school board voted 6-1 to reinstate mandatory masks in the schools, a lot of parents are out for blood. I'd rather be the 1 than the 6.

Here we go again.

City of Durham just enacted mask mandates for everyone indoors, effective today. I just watched an ABC News propaganda clip on YouTube, and they are now laying it on thick about "record number of cases", and the clip had an "expert" saying "stay at home as much as possible".

They are trying to take us back to severe restrictions and how it was a year ago. Many other cities in NC will probably soon follow Durham in the next few days or week, and institute mask mandates -- like Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Charlotte, etc.

Don't comply with this BS. Many/most sheriffs probably are not going to enforce these mask mandates. And if a "critical mass" of people refuse to comply, then they will just give up on trying to enforce it.

NC case numbers are a mess today because they included a massive amount of backlog. Going to throw off some of the cases reported trends the next week or so.

Quote:

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) continuously works to improve the timeliness and accuracy of our data. The number of new cases for Aug. 7-9, 2021 includes 2,638 cases with positive test results from June 30 through July 31 that had not previously been included in the dashboard and were identified through a data review and quality check process.

Any indication why they wouldn't add those to backdated points in time rather than to the totals for current times?

I mean, you do for the cases by specimen date, and that will show in the case collection date trend.

But that is not the top line number that gets used for media reporting and a lot of the more generic trend data. They use reported cases to keep it simple. I am sure the media somewhere in NC is already crapping their pants over the case number today (backlog or not).

Yep. Case numbers that include a backlog from last month, on top of reporting for two days instead of one day. It has been a year and a half and the media are still "mystified" by the numbers. I am sure WRAL will get their "data trackers" right on this latest update and give us viewers the scariest interpretation possible.

I think DHHS is underestimating their backlog with their 2600 number. The July cases reported today are just under 3000. And I think whatever source they 'found' and included in today's numbers actually includes some August cases as well. But since they blend in to current data, it is harder to separate that out.

The graph below should help people understand what NCDHHS did today, with their delayed reporting of data from July. The chart shows all PCR and Antigen positive tests reported today, but based on the date the test sample was taken for the test.

I'm just asking an honest question. We have a Democrat as a governor and so is Mandy. There has been a historical disconnect between Guilford County from NCDHHS and then what Mormad posts from the Cone system.

Is it actually delayed reporting - or instead just made up numbers? That is my question.

I mean, I do wish they would be more upfront when they find these cases as to where they came from.

Cite the testing source and primary location of the missing cases. (Or if the intern just pressed the wrong button on the fax machine, call him out.)

I can only think of a couple of instances where they identified the source. Most times, they just dump. Personally, I do not believe they just made up 2,000+ PCR tests. I do believe some lab ran 2,000+ samples through their machines and produced 2,000+ positive cases, using criteria they never report.

As far as cases in general, I do not put much stock in them for tracking how the pandemic is going. I find hospitalizations and in particular, daily hospital admits (comes from the hospital demographics section of the Dashboard) to be more meaningful. and useful. Cases are just something to get people's attention and they give the media something to use in their panic porn.

I expected cases, hospitalizations, and deaths to rise during this period and I am not shocked it is happening. The news media on the other hand (and the so-called experts) seem to think this Summer Wave came out of nowhere. Just like in the Winter Wave when they tried to claim it came from holiday gatherings. Never mind the very clear data (daily hospital admits) that showed it started in late October. I predict they will do the same thing this year when the next Winter Wave hits. They will all act surprised and try to blame bad behavior on the part of society.

Oh. I don't think the case dumps are malicious, I think it is more incompetence.

But I agree, cases are heavily impacted by testing rates (we are testing over twice as much as we were a month ago).

The problem with hospital admits is that it includes coincidental positive tests which in children can be up to 50% of the cases. But coincidental admits or not, I agree it shows cleaner trend data. Which is why I am hoping to see that leveling of the COVID ED visit % turn downwards, that would be the first clear indication that we are actually post peak.

Pfizer and possibly Moderna could get full FDA approval by the end of August. Once this happens, I do believe you will see more businesses require vaccination and the UNC system will be able to require vaccination of students.

We need businesses of all types who require employees and customers to be UNvaccinated.

And I'm serious. It's the injected people who are spreading these variants and shedding these spike proteins.

Two can play at this game. There will be businesses who do not cave to this wicked agenda, and who will employ and service unvaccinated.

When incompetence goes on long enough without being corrected, it becomes malicious. NCDHHS has had a year plus to get their data sh*t together and have failed miserably.

The CCP are not your friends and they do not wish you good will. I suspect it is being put out as a diversion. The video comes from China state-sponsored media. As far as Dr. Baric is concerned, I brought his name up a few months ago with regards to the "Covid origin" article that finally opened everyone's eyes to the real possibility of a lab leak. He did have a role in the work being done by the Wuhan lab on coronaviruses, but he was not actually working in the lab at the time. He is considered one of the world's leading experts on Coronaviruses and he was profiled over a year ago by local media, when Covid was first ramping up. This was when I became aware of him and his work. His association with the leading coronavirus researcher in China was disclosed in the article I mentioned from a couple of months ago.

If people are curious about following all key developments in the lab leak origin theory, I would encourage you to follow Alina Chan on Twitter. She is a post-doc researcher at MIT and Harvard and she was very much involved with the people who broke the details of the lab leak possibility. She was working with the private citizen group (loosely organized group of investigators from around the world) that investigated the lab leak ideas and uncovered much of the "smoking gun" evidence that became the source of a couple of key investigative articles.

If you subscribe to the lab leak theory, then are people thinking it is safer to potentially get infected with a virus they think was created in a lab in Wuhan vs. getting vaccines to protect against it?
