Oh I am sure it's accurate. Lt. Dan did get one thing wrong, it wasn't because of Covid they were out of work, but because the Governor is a pathetic worm.

What is this from? It doesn't appear to show anything about the person who was claiming the unemployment benefit so it seems irresponsible of him to state that unless he has more information to provide.

It also says this is for claims through December, maybe the person submitted their form wrong and is requesting future benefits that aren't available at this point and therefore not covered by the CARES act which has already expired?

*Edited to add - did the person apply for a Small Business Loan or PPP? Those were additional programs that were implemented to distribute the CARES act $ and / or support them while they were forced to close. My children's daycare applied for and got a PPP to cover paychecks for workers. If this is the gym owner then maybe there is a different set of rules as an owner vs. an waged employee.

Either way, feel for the person and I hope their business is able to bounce back. I hate that so many of them have been closed for so long.

"A Boston consumer genetics company that has batted away former employees' accusations of shoddy practices since at least 2019 is now under investigation by the state Department of Public Health for logging hundreds of false positive coronavirus test results. The company, Orig3n, has halted COVID-19 testing in the state. A company spokesman said the false positives were due to "human error" in processing the tests. In August, after learning about the Massachusetts investigation, North Carolina issued a stop order for its coronavirus testing contract with Orig3n."

Quote:

"As many as 300 temporary testing sites will be deployed throughout the month of July, including drive-thru and walk-up sites. North Carolina has identified two vendors to begin this work, Vidant Health and Orig3n, Inc. Both vendors will deploy new no-cost testing sites to underserved communities identified by DHHS and bring additional lab capacity to the state. The initiative will increase testing capacity in more than 100 ZIP codes, providing testing access for 2.2 million African American, LatinX/Hispanic and American Indian individuals. "

So on August 12th Date of Specimen Collection Update by DHHS, July 30th had a net change of -72. Most often a negative net change will be -1 or -2. There are no other instances of this kind of correction being made.

This same day that corresponds to some county corrections including: -6 Ashe, -7 Cherokee, -5 Duplin, -43 Northampton, -21 Sampson.

From the July 27th Press Release:

Quote:

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) has 39 upcoming community testing events scheduled in Bladen, Duplin, Johnston, Edgecombe, Henderson, Hertford, Northampton, Randolph, Robeson, Sampson and Warren counties as part of the initiative to increase access to free COVID-19 testing for African American, LatinX/Hispanic and American Indian communities that currently have limited testing sites.

So far, nearly 130 testing events have been coordinated through this initiative. There is no cost for testing. For an up-to-date list of events, visit the Community Testing Events page of the NCDHHS COVID-19 website. NCDHHS testing events are listed under the name of their coordinating vendor: NCCHCA, Orig3n, Inc or Vidant Health.

I agree bars should open.

I wonder how able they actually are to enforce protocols but they need to be given the chance to do it right and adjust if they don't/won't/can't.

Yeah I call BS on this. There's important info we're missing here.

I just saw the trial for one of the leading vaccine candidates has been paused, due to a serious adverse reaction in a participant. The AstraZeneca vaccine was developed by Oxford University and it is thought to be one of the more promising options undergoing clinical trial. Hopefully, it is just minor interruption, but it demonstrates how difficult and complex it can be to develop vaccines.

That's what was I was thinking too cisco.

I don't know who signs up to be a human guinea pig for these trials but we're all in their debt.

Letter comes from Rich Hooton who owns Body Sculptors Personal Training in Greenville. That's what he posted in one of the comments on the twitter thread that the initial post was on,

He also said that he gave an interview to WITN last night as well...but i didn't see that

Got it - I don't know unemployment law but I assume there are different policies for business owners vs. waged employees. Maybe he wasn't eligible for UI because he was eligible for other programs not available to waged employees like PPP and small business loans.

I wondered that as well. Dr. Fauci said this morning that a pause such at this is "not uncommon." The AstraZeneca vaccine just entered Phase III trial in the US, so it is early. According to reports, it had already been going through large-scale clinical trials in Great Britain, Brazil, and South Africa. I am not sure if those trials have also been paused, but I would assume they have been. The WHO has said the AstraZeneca vaccine is "probably the world's leading candidate and the most advanced in terms of development."

Hopefully, they can work out what happened and if it was not directly related to the vaccine, restart the trial. According to reports, an independent review board will now review all of the data to determine if the trial can restart.

I do know that part of the initial COVID relief package did include unemployment payouts for people who where self employed, or owned their own business.

I do not know what his initial documentation that was submitted said....

More on vaccines. The Tweet below includes a recently leaked document from the CDC that shows the guidelines and potential supply of the vaccine for two of the vaccine candidates. I think it is a good sign that people who work in Long-term Care Facilities are the in the group with the highest priority to receive the vaccine, since over half the deaths in NC have come from these facilities.

I did a long post and clicked post and it disappeared. I'll shorten it.

A great and funny guy (my 1st cousin) came home today to probably die of Covid 19? My brother called me tonight and said that Charles requested to go home and not be resuscitated. Charles and his dad loved hunting more than anything and he's one of 7 kids....probably 67-69 today without looking it up. A good dude; like his dad, a law officer (mostly) when not hunting. You may have seen him on the Johnny Carson Show back in 1987....he won at Spivey's Corner and he had Johnny and Ed rolling with laughter. He's a member of a great family....pray for him please. His grandma Lala sits at God's alter with John the Baptist and she's watching over him.

Not making any changes until after the election. But people tell us it's not political.

It is political, just like the decisions being made by Governor Cooper in NC are political. He is NOT "following the science" and he would know science if it bit him in the ass. He is only doing what his "handles" in Washington are directing him to do.

Hear how much Cohen had to invoke the WH and Birx in the briefing today? I couldn't count the number of times she said, "White House" and "Birx". Trying to deflect some heat.

And then talking about how Birx said NC was in the 'Red Zone'.

All the White House C-Task Force 'Red Zone' means is the state is over 100 cases per 100,000 residents per week (for NC 10500 per week/1500 per day) OR over 10% positive testing rate.

Yes, NC did sneak into the 'Red Zone' during the university case/test surge, but we are already below the threshold. Why can't Cohen just explain and give context to what that label means instead of continuing to misrepresent.

Continues to amaze how she can give so many non-answers to every question posed.

Unfortunately this does list us in the Red Zone per the White House documentation:

And as the graph shows, NC WAS in the Red Zone (barely with university outbreaks). But this is not some super complicated metric to calculate.

It is just a simple 100 cases per 100,000 population per week.

So despite what last week's report might have said... about 15 seconds of math shows you that NC is NO LONGER in the Red Zone. Why not say that? Or does Cohen not understand how the calculation is done?

Oh ya... and Cohen also is anti-football.

Quote:

During the call, Cohen said she would not authorize the additional attendance at football games and said she did not believe football should be played at all during the pandemic.
https://www.wbtv.com/2020/09/10/nc-health-officials-wont-allow-athletes-families-attend-college-football-games/

So families can't attend because Cohen doesn't believe football should be played?

What does one activity have to do with another? The games are being allowed ... that is activity A.

Activity B is 350 people sitting in a stadium, in no way interacting with Activity A. Activity B is not permitted EVEN THOUGH IT IS SAFER than Activity A because Cohen is mad that Activity A is happening.

There are people who actually practice medicine for a living (she only did for 3 years) who disagree with her. They believe football can be played safely in a pandemic. Based on her latest statement,it seems clear they will never approve parents attending games this season.

At this point, I will do everything I can to see that Roy Cooper is not re-elected as governor of North Carolina. As I have said before, if he does not support me and the other parents watching our son's play football in an effectively empty stadium, I will not support him in his re-election for governor. This is not political, it is personal. The only thing political about this entire issue is the governor's decision.

The governor and his lap dog Mandy Cohen are NOT "following the science" as he claims and anyone who has followed this virus as closely as I and others have, know this to be the case. Health professionals have advised the universities and many of them have told the Governor and Mandy Cohen that parents can attend the games in a safe manner. Parents can more easily social distance and wear a mask in an outdoor stadium where 98% of the seats are EMPTY than they can indoors at Walmart and Target with 500-1,000 complete strangers.

My wife had to be tested yesterday. Took about 2 hours to get the results back. She was negative thank God. Wouldn't say it was a well run thing down here in southeastern nc but at least she got it done and was negative.

I was? They were talking about a White House report that Dr. Cohen was referencing and I linked to the report so people could view it? I'm sorry if that hurt your sensibilities

The PTB had to know that allowing college kids back on campus and implementing an aggressive testing regimen on those campuses would result in a spike in cases. I still haven't seen where any college students have been hospitalized as a result of testing positive, and still not sure how it justifies not letting parents watch football games. The spike seems so conveniently timed to justify the decisions they want to make, the cynic in me would maybe start to think things.

Wake Forest's general student body is still on campus, taking a mix of in-person and online classes. The total number of cases identified so far is 71 and 19 are considered to have recovered, leaving 52 in the currently infected category. Wake is currently conducting random Covid-19 testing on 500 students per week. You can see the dashboard for Wake Forest here: Covid-19 Dashboard - Our Way Forward

Wake effectively closed campus to outside visitors after students moved onto campus (limit of 2 parents in predefined time slot) and no one can go on campus now (other than students and professors/staff) without prior written approval. I believe Duke did something very similar and they also are still in an on-campus setting with a mix of in-person and online classes as well.

There is currently no science that justifies keeping 1,000 family members (home and away families) from attending the games in an effectively empty stadium. All would be required to wear masks and sit in preassigned seats for social distancing purposes. All concessions stands would be closed and bathrooms would be cleaned throughout the games. Family members would be allowed to bring in their own beverages (no alcohol and no coolers) in sealed containers and some light snacks. This is what my son's school proposed and it was rejected by the Roy Cooper and Mandy Cohen.

LOLOL.

36815 NEW TESTS?... So, THAT'S how Roy and Mandy are able to manage to somehow keep us in that vaunted "Red Zone"?

With an f'n 4.2% positive rate no less?

No better than common thieves at this point... *And I'm sure they don't care one single bit either about what they are doing - since it doesn't directly affect them.
