That's Trea Turner's 13th career leadoff home run

He's 2 shy of tying Brad Wilkerson at 15 for most in Nationals/Expos franchise history

Apparently, MLB umps have determined that Trea has a tendency to commit interference running to first.

For something rarely called, the two recent times I remeber it were both on Trea and both seemed bogus. (I did enjoy the old-school manager blow-up, though.)

From @EliasSports

: There are three players in the majors who've played in every one of their team's games this season and are hitting over .300: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (.331), Austin Riley (.313) and Trea Turner (.307).

Trea Turner leads all NL shortstops in AVG
Trea Turner leads all NL shortstops in OBP
Trea Turner leads all NL shortstops in hits

Meake sure Trea Turner leads all NL shortstops in All-Star votes, too.

Hopefully Trea will make the team, but unfortunately he's not beating out Tatis Jr. at SS, especially in fan voting.

Went to DC over the weekend with the wife, 2 grown kids and my daughter-in-law. Saw the Saturday night Dodgers- NATS game. Spent a pretty penny to get 6 tickets just a few rows back from the NATS dugout on 1st base side.

Was disappointed that Trea is out with a finger injury and didn't get to see him play. Was even more disappointed to wait thru a 90 + minute rain delay. Good game but bad outcome for the NATS.

Trea Turner is out of the game after hitting an infield single and scoring on a home run in the first inning. Nationals have not said why he's out.

He apparently slid into 3rd awkwardly and went for medical testing.

If the MLB doesn't ban the Nats from the tonight's game and for the next week at minimum, then, well.

Very few Nationals players remain unvaccinated by all accounts. Fully vaccinated players are exempt from routine testing. When other players have been removed due to a positive covid test, the Nationals have stated that the player was fully vaccinated. (Eric Fedde, for example.) They specifically declined to do so with respect to Turner. Either Turner is vaccinated and had sufficient sysmptoms to trigger testing or the positive test was from routine testing of an unvaccinated player. It seems unlikely, to me, that Turner would have had sufficient symptoms for testing and then be put in the starting lineup. Many of the players were surprised when he left the game and assumed that it was due to a trade. (Turner is subject to trade rumors with the deadline coming in a couple of days.) Again, it seems that if he had significant symptoms, the other players would have had that as a reason for him to leave the game.

The most likely explanation is that Turner is not vaccinated and contracted covid. Given the vaccination status of the rest of the team and lack of other known players with symptoms, shutting the team down doesn't seem reasonable.
