It's mildly amusing how regular season vs tournament titles are discussed around here. If you win a tournament title, it can be dismissed as just having a lucky week. Then I've seen today that winning the regular season wouldn't be an accomplishment because our record isn't impressive enough. I've also seen that nobody cares about the regular season title, which I guess is the case until you lose a game that could've won you one, then lots of people care apparently. I think the only way to really make people happy would be to dominate the regular season, win the regular season title, and then dominantly win the tournament with no help or luck. That night satisfy the masses.

I just want EA to get some sort of title, because that's really the only thing that folks can use against him. There's no doubt that getting to Omaha is a much bigger accomplishment than winning either conference title, but I'm tired of hearing about how long it's been. This isn't anywhere close to his best team, but they've been punching above their weight, and if they do win the regular season, it will be deserved, regardless of their record. And if they don't end up the regular season champs, the tournament is there for the taking with the new format. Just win one somehow.

Who is using anything against EA. I haven't seen a single comment about the coach sucks blah blah. EA doesn't need you coming on here defending him from the boogeyman.

None of us liked the outcome last night but getting back from the game and reading through the post-game posts, there were some very not-hot takes last night.

None of liked the outcome, but this is baseball man. Stanford's starter didn't have a 17 ERA. He didn't cut his teeth playing for the Bad New Bears. He's a P4 scholarship pitcher with an ERA in the mid-4's and a 6-0 record. And we weren't playing the Savannah Bananas. This team took a series from the Cheats.

Hitting isn't matter of effort or want-to. If that were the case good hitters wouldn't fail 70% of the time. If hitting was just a matter of locking in at the plate and having a quality AB, hitting wouldn't be the hardest thing to do in sports.

The story of the game was Stanford getting to two of our best arms to scratch across runs late and us not being able to capitalize on a couple of opportunities, especially bases loaded one out. That was enough in a tight game when we weren't stringing together hits and had some hard-hit balls right at dudes.

Huge that we're locked in with the double-bye. Finishing first in the regular season would be a nice footnote but it's not the prize.

Go get one today, let's cross our fingers we get a little help in Tallahassee, and then go try and sprint to the finish and win some hardware for Avent in Durham!

That guy didn't record an out against Wake or UNC and his only other ACC appearance was against a team who doesn't have a .300 hitter in their lineup.

Of course he can make it to Omaha without winning the league. Nobody doubts that. I just can't imaging coaching at a school for 25+ years, not having a single championship of any kind and downplaying the opportunity to win one.

Because it's obviously not as important to him. You don't have to agree but it's pretty easy to imagine a coach valuing Omaha over a regular season title

Man, pretend EA didn't say this. We win today, UNC loses, and Scott Forbes says "I don't care about winning the ACC". We'd drag him up and down and call it what it is, cope.

I like EA a lot and everyone knows my thoughts on him, I've been very clear. I'd be pretty pissed off as an AD if my coach said he didn't want to win the ACC.

Would EA be saying winning the acc wasn't important if he had actually one one or a few? That' one of the only knocks on him in his career. He hasn't won the ACC. So to make that no seem so bad, he just acts like he doesn't put much emphasis on it. Its human nature.

Cool. They still count em.

And know how it's easiest to win one? Being the 1 seed where you get an extra bullpen day and your fan base gets first dibs on tickets

Looking at those numbers that is an anemic offense.

Nobody said it had to be as important, but it should be the first goal in a long list of goals for a team of this caliber.

1. Win every weekend series.
2. Win the ACC Regular Season
3. Win the ACC Tournament
4. Host and win a regional
5. Host and win a Super
6. Go to Omaha
7. Win a Natty

He could have easily said, of course we want to win the ACC Regular Season and be the #1 seed in the conference Tournament and we are going to fight like hell tomorrow to ensure we put ourselves in position to do just that. And then we will turn our focus to our other goals and put our players in a position to make it to Omaha for the 3rd time in 5 years so we can give the fans what they really want!

To completely dismiss the chance to win a conference regular season title is absolutely wild to me, especially when you have zero titles to show for all the great teams you have had.

Not to mention, if we don't win the conference regular season, its our rival that will. That alone should make you want to win the thing.

FWIW, FSU hasn't lost 3 in a row all season. And obviously haven't been swept. However the Heels are the betting favorite. This is one I'd put money on FSU moneyline.

This funny discussion but I honestly believe a lot of these coaches don't care about conference championship and Omaha is always the goal.

Duke used to have "Omaha" plastered all over their locker room.

Big picture this team has overachieved. We are put together like a small market MLB team. We have a few high end arms that were home grown and then seemingly were working on a very tight budget in the free agent market. This leads to a team that has limitations offensively but remains competitive due to the high end arms. Gonna have some losses you don't like when your offense is limited. Pitching will win a lot of games but it doesn't win out every night.

Going to need more money to compete nationally I suspect moving forward. The SEC, with football money but also money derived from these huge stadiums they fill consistently, is going to have a different level of talent than we can put together. If we are going to continue to be a lower budget roster, we need to pick it up with HS recruiting. Look at our lineup - there are very few highly rated HS recruits playing. Sosa and Head are about it and neither player is from NC. We need to do a better job in state with all the talent that is produced in NC. Look at the 2026 class that is mostly done. We have a few hangovers from freshman year commitments that probably aren't playing at this level as juniors. We have 2-3 high end offensive talents coming in and really not much in terms of arms. Need more than that in a given class.

Having said that, I have said and will say I wish we would invest more heavily in baseball - facilities and players.

Yet certain peeps continue to bash Avent after every loss. Dude does more with less....$, players, facilities than most in College baseball

Blowing it against the worst team in the league to give your rival the best chance to win the regular season title is just absolutely BRUTAL.

Cal is the worst team in the league but please, continue your tantrum. Haha

Who's throwing a tantrum? Let's not act like we didn't just blow a perfect opportunity to win a title against a team that isn't any good this year?

But yeah you're right losing to a team that had an 11 game losing streak this season, is perfectly okay with everything State had to play for on the line.

Just calling it what it is brother.

I am gonna be honest you and James are probably the only 2 that truly give a **** about finishing 1st in the regular season standings. It is so far down the list. Give me a WS appearance, a super appearance, and ACc tournament championship all before I care about finishing up in first at 18-10. Wouldn't be nice sure but I'm not losing sleep over it.
Front page of State's game notes:

Whats at stake
There will be a lot to play for this weekend as NC State looks to win their first ACC regular season title since 1986. A sweep of the Cardinal and one loss by Florida State would secure the title and the first seed in the ACC tournament next week.

But sure, why care about winning a title. Let's focus on what we do in a regional with 3 other random teams over a weekend.

Right. Gimme what's in reach and in front of us this weekend. Worry about acc tourney, regional, supers, WS when it gets here. I'm almost 52....was 13 last time we won the acc. Almost like BB. Def.like FB

If the cheats win they win the regular season. If we both lose, then I'm sure someone has already posted how FSU or GT might win the regular season.

I wanna win the regular season title, but I'll admit....I had to look up who won the last 5, including last season lol

Not against this elite Stanford pitching staff!

Some poor ABs there with a guy in scoring position.

Gotta get Andrews out of here if we want to win the game. The bunt double play was a nice job, but he just isn't missing bats. Cant afford to give up 4-5 runs in 4ish innings like his previous starts.

Stanford's getting a lot of hit-'em-where-they-ain't hits. Andrews isn't getting hit hard, but it's a death by a thousand paper cuts.

Disagree, he is getting barreled enough in a must win that you can't afford to keep him out there. JMO.

Stanford approach- get to 2 strikes, get 92 down the middle, hit ball hard. Repeat.

Unfortunately we will wait until someone goes yard. Heath has given up a ton of long balls this year. His misses just seem to get tattooed.
