Same preview/thoughts going into tomorrow's Prenationals that I posted over on PP:
Per BYU, Hedengren is OUT for tomorrow as a precautionary measure due to a recent illness. This season, more than any other I can remember, it seems to me that no coaches want the #1 ranking (and the proverbial target on their back) going into the postseason.
Due to the relatively weak field compared to e.g., Nuttycombe, there shouldn't be much displacement at the front of the race. BYU and NC State's Top 5 (and maybe even their Top 7) should all finish in the Top 20-30.
I'm honestly not concerned with winning. I think it will be relatively close tomorrow and i won't be surprised or disappointed either way unless there is a truly dominating win or collapse by either team.
Most of all, I want to see everyone healthy and thriving as the racing season starts and their training blocks wind down. There should be smiles. Tomorrow should be fun, without ANY pressure.
In an ideal world, I would like to see Hannah at or near the front, but not fighting too hard to stay there. I want Bethany, Angelina and Brooke looking comfortable and within themselves over the last kilometer followed very closely by the rest of the squad that is going to be a part of the conversation and planning for the postseason. I'm quietly rooting for Briley and Kaylie to show out tomorrow, so this isn't the end of their collegiate XC experience.
No redline efforts, no collapsing at the finish, etc. … this should be a really fun business trip.
