Looking at the history of NCAA Women's Cross Country Champions, with this 4th title the Wolfpack women now tie Oregon for the program with the 4th most NCAA Women's team titles. The only programs with more are Villanova with 9, BYU with 6, and Stanford with 5.

And, of course, the NC State women won the team national championship in 1979 and 1980 when the sport was governed by the AIAW (one year before it came under the NCAA in 1981). So if you count those two titles, the Wolfpack women have a total of 6 team national championships, tying them with BYU for 2nd most women's team titles.

They won with 114 points today, and also won with 114 points in 2022.

In this video, Katelyn says to Grace "you were so tough" and "you did it for your team".

It is public knowledge (per Coach Henes) that Hartman was dealing with a plantar injury that she suffered over the summer, and they intentionally only raced her sparingly during this cross country season in order to "manage" that injury.

Of course I have no inside knowledge, but based upon Katelyn's statements there, I wonder if Grace was dealing with a significant amount of pain from that injury during this race?

The team should be even better next year, as they can return all of the top 7 who raced today...except for probably Rauber (6th today). I think I read that Rauber could possibly return, maybe if she got some kind of medical waiver or something like that.

They redshirted some of the big-time true freshman recruits this season, who could be major contributors next year -- including Emily Wisniewski and Alexa Dow.

So I imagine they should be favorites to win the team title again next season.

With her 4th Team National Championship Laurie Henes is now currently tied with Patrick Shane (BYU) in having the 3rd most National Championships of all head coaches in Division 1 Women's Cross Country history.

She only trails Peter Tegen with 5 (at Stanford & Wisconsin) and Marty Stern with 6 (Villanova).

LetsRun has more of the post-race interview with Coach Henes. Laurie says here that Angelina Napoleon "has been a little under the weather the last week". So maybe Napoleon was still feeling sick in the National Championship race and that affected her performance and was a big reason why she "only" finished 40th.
