Really good, dominating performance. This type of performance would be at least a podium finish at nationals.
Hypothetical extrapolation: Taking yesterday's deltas - Napoleon 4.5s behind Hartman, Michalak 20.6s behind Hartman, Gapes 27.3s behind Hartman, Engelhardt 41.7s behind Hartman - and applying them to last year's national championship, they would have scored 121 points (1st place).
At Nationals last year, Gapes was our 2nd runner, 8th overall, 3 seconds behind Hartman. Yesterday she was 4th on the team, 27 seconds back. I'd like to see her get back up near the front of the team.
Hartman looked great, Napoleon continued her rise to stardom (I guess she's a full-on star already), and Michalak was a very nice surprise. Solid run from Engelhardt but I'm always leery of relying on freshmen. I'd love to see someone push her for 5th spot, but she might end up as the best option. Still nothing from the transfers - I wonder what their status is.
BYU smoked the field at Pre-Nats, but a much weaker field overall. 1-3-6-7-8-10-18-20-23 for their first 9. I'd probably give them the edge over NC State due to their depth, and they should be the favorites to win nationals.
Jane Hedengren is going to smash every NCAA record really soon and will be the best women's distance runner in NCAA history by the end of her 2nd year (if not sooner).
