Broadfoot and Osuigwe have a really good opportunity and chance to win the national championship here.

Of the four doubles teams that have advanced to the semifinals, Broadfoot and Osuigwe are the highest ranked doubles team per the ITA doubles rankings that were released prior to the season on August 26. Broadfoot and Osuigwe were ranked #10 nationally, while Webster/Mohr of Vanderbilt were #12, and Gilheany/Nahum of Oklahoma were #27. The team they are facing in the semifinals, Borruel and Fairclough of Southern California were not ranked, because Fairclough was ranked with another teammate at #15.

I don't know exactly how the ITA rankings work, but it must be something similar to how the professional rankings are done, where they take account of all your results over a certain recent time period (such as going back 3-6 months). And for Broadfoot and Osuigwe, they've only been playing together since September, for the last 2 months. And it probably also factors in the strength of your opponents. Broadfoot and Osuigwe were not undefeated this fall. I think they lost 2 matches during this fall season.

These final rankings are not necessarily reflective of how good the players are currently or will be in the near future. Anna Zyryanova of NC State, for instance, has a final ranking in the fall of 60...but she is better than that. She had one bad loss in the All-American tournament that I recall. If she plays to her potential, she is around a top 20-25 player in DI. She was our #1 singles player for much of last year during the team/dual competition season, and beat #10 ranked Connie Ma of Stanford last year (as an example of how good she can be).

Victoria Osuigwe is currently unranked in singles (lower than 125), but I would not be surprised that by the middle or end of the team/dual competition season in the spring that she moves up in the rankings to the 40-50 range. She had a few bad losses this fall in the individual competition season. But that is to be expected from a true freshman, adjusting to playing D1 NCAA competition, IMO. I watched several of her matches, and IMO she the talent to eventually be a top 20 NCAA player.

Overall, our team has shown a lot of growth since last year. Broadfoot and Slama seem to have improved a lot, as evidenced by them both qualifying for the NCAA individual singles tournament...and their final rankings in singles of 29 and 31 (which are significantly higher than their rankings at the end of last year and prior to this fall competition season).

Everything considered, I'm very optimistic about this team for the spring dual/team competition season beginning in January. I see them as potentially a top 5-10 team in the nation, and contending for the ACC title and also the national title.
