For the second consecutive week, if the Wolfpack (5-2-4, 1-2-2 ACC) could've put just one ball in the back of the net it would have two wins over ranked teams on the road. Unlike the game against Stanford, the Pack put more than one shot on goal but couldn't capitalize on the chances it had against the Hokies (6-3-2, 1-3-1 ACC).

23rd-ranked NC State men's soccer (6-2-5) provided a thrilling night for Wolfpack Nation on Saturday evening with senior night and a 5-1 domination over 10th-ranked SMU (7-2-5).

This upset marked the team's first win in a month and the program's first top-10 win since October of 2018. NC State posted four of its five goals in the first half alone. Donavan Phillip led the way by scoring two goals in just the first 13 minutes of the match.

A corner-kick nearly midway through the first half, led to Liam Bennett giving service to a header goal by Hakim Karamoko, pushing the scoreboard to a three to nothing shutout only a fourth of the way through the game.

The Mustangs were able to prevent the shutout thanks to Kyro Pinho's shot in the 28th minute that propelled past Yves Tcheuyap and Enzo Carvalho to result in a goal and cut the score to 3-1.

Aidan Payne earned his second goal of the season in the 35th minute when he pursued the deflection of a shot by Donavan Phillip, finding himself at the right spot at the right time.

A comfortable lead by three carried the Pack's confidence coming out of halftime into the second frame of the game. The final half of the game dealt with several close opportunities by each team but only the red-and-white would be able to put away anymore goals.

On his senior night, Henrique Santos added his own to the team tally when he got past a defender to send the ball to the far right post that SMU's outstretched goalkeeper could not gather.

Taig Healy played a key role in the night, tallying assists to goals by Phillip, Payne, and Santos, while Carvalho did as well in goal with three crucial saves.
