The NC State softball team dropped the first game of the series with Notre Dame, 5-3, Friday evening at Melissa Cook Stadium in South Bend.

How it Happened

  • With two outs on the board in the opening frame, Madison Inscoe stepped up to the plate and doubled down the left line to record the first hit of the afternoon. Sophomore Amanda Hasler's bat was hot as she drilled a two run homer to left field her ninth of the season to put NC State on the board 2-0.
  • Notre Dame tied things up in the bottom of the first after back-to-back doubles to right field allowed runners to score.
  • The Irish added one in the bottom half of the third after Emily Tran grounded out to the Pack infield allowing Carlli Kloss to take the lead 3-2.
  • The top of the fourth saw two members of the Pack get left on base as Inscoe and Hasler each recorded their second hit of the meeting.
  • The Irish added two more in the bottom of the fourth after an error by the Pack and a single brought one home, to take a 5-2 lead.
  • The Pack ended the fourth inning with a 6-3-5 double play to pick up outs two and three.
  • NC State attempted to rally back in the top of the seventh as Hannah Goodwin found a gap on the left side and singled she would later advance to second on a wild pitch. Michele Tarpey then reached base on an error and advanced to second, allowing Goodwin to score and minimize the deficit. Tarpey was left on base in the end as the Irish picked up the final out to end the meeting with the win.
  • Inscoe led the Pack offensively throughout the meeting as she went 3-for-3 from the batter's box (two singles, one double). Hasler added two hits of her own and led with two RBI's.
  • Inscoe started in the circle for the Pack and pitched a total of three innings, picking up two strikeouts. Aisha Weixlman finished the outing for the Pack, pitching three innings of her own.

The NC State softball team dropped game two of the series with Notre Dame, 9-4, Saturday afternoon at Melissa Cook Stadium.

Notre Dame 9, NC State 4
How it Happened

  • The Pack opened the outing with hot bats. Michele Tarpey led off with a four pitch walk and Taylor Ensley followed with reaching base on a fielder's choice that allowed Tarpey to advance to second she was ruled safe on an error by the Irish shortstop. With two on, Madison Inscoe also reached on a fielder's choice that would load the bases. With one out, Ellie Goins found a gap in the right side to single and bring two home to put NC State on the board 2-0. While MaKayla Marbury was at the plate, Goins attempted to steal second but was tagged out Inscoe would score from third to put the Pack up 3-0.
  • Notre Dame put six runs on the board in the bottom half of the first after two singles, a fielder's choice, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly allowed runners to score. With one out on the board and the Pack trailing by two, head coach Lindsay Leftwich brought in Kayla Fekel to replace Aisha Weixlmann in the circle.
  • Hannah Goodwin led off the second inning with a single through the left side for the Wolfpack and Kaylee Lambrecht followed it up with a four pitch walk. Despite being down 0-2 in the count, Tori Ensley managed to work the count full and would end up being walked to load the bases for Tarpey. Tarpey popped up to first to mark the first out and Taylor Ensley would then reach base on fielder's choice Goodwin was tagged out at the plate. With bases still loaded and two outs, Inscoe took the batter's box for a second time. After being down in the count 0-2, she took four straight balls to be walked and force Lambrecht home. The Pack ended the top of the second by adding one run to the board and leaving three on base.
  • The Irish added three more runs in the bottom of the third after a homer by Karina Gaskins. With one out on the board, Rylee Wyman entered the circle for the Pack.
  • The Pack attempted to rally in the top of the fifth as Taylor Ensley doubled to left center with two outs, but the efforts fell short as the Irish picked up the final out of the frame.
  • Wyman ended the fifth inning with a huge strikeout to leave one stranded on base for Notre Dame.
  • Tori Ensley led off the sixth with a walk after being hit by a pitch. The Irish defense got the next three batters out to end the inning and leave Ensley on first.
  • The Pack struggled defensively throughout the afternoon as it recorded six errors.
  • Fekel and Wyman each recorded a strikeout in their time in the circle.
  • Goodwin, Goins, and Ta. Ensley all recorded one hit in the outing.

How it Happened

  • Taylor Ensley recorded the first hit of the afternoon for the Pack as she hit a single perfectly up the middle. Madison Inscoe followed suit by reaching base on a fielder's choice and Ensley was out at second. NC State finished the opening frame with a hit on the board.
  • With one out in the top of the second, Hannah Goodwin hit a ball to shallow center field that allowed her to reach first. Kaylee Lambrecht worked a full count before recording ball four to take first and advance Goodwin to second -- the duo was left on base at the end of the frame.
  • Inscoe started in the circle for the Pack and picked up three strikeouts in the bottom of the second.
  • Amanda Hasler led off the third inning with a single to right field. The hit marked her third of the series. Taylor Ensley then reached base after an error by the Irish infield and Hasler moved to second. With two outs on the board, the duo would advance once again after a wild pitch by the Irish pitching staff.
  • At the conclusion of the third inning, Inscoe tallied five strikeouts the meeting marked the second game this season she tallied five through three innings.
  • In her third plate appearance of the outing, Taylor Ensley reached base for the third time. Inscoe made her impact on the offensive side of the ball as she tallied her first hit of the afternoon with a single through the left side.
  • The Irish added two runs to the board after an RBI double from Mickey Winchill and a single from Emily Tran allowed one to score.
  • Goodwin recorded her second hit of the afternoon in the top of the sixth with one out. The game marked her first since the Pitt series in 2023 (May 5-6) with at least two hits.
  • Inscoe picked up two more strikeouts in the bottom of the sixth to keep the Irish from reaching base.
  • With one out on the board in the top of the seventh, Hasler saw a four pitch walk to get on base. She was left stranded in the end as the Irish grabbed two outs to end the game.
  • Inscoe finished the afternoon with eight strikeouts in her six innings pitched. The game marked the third this season with eight or more strikeouts for the sophomore.
  • Goodwin and Taylor Ensley both recorded two hits to lead the Pack offensively.

NC State softball (18-13) dropped a 4-2 decision to in-state foe Charlotte (18-12) on Tuesday evening at Dail Stadium, headlined by a two-hit night from Hannah Goodwin.

NC State 2, Charlotte 4
How it Happened

Charlotte scored one in the opening frame to take the lead after a triple by Ella Chancey drove in the leadoff batter.
NC State responded in the home half of the fourth with a two-run rocket by Madison Inscoe that brought Taylor Ensley home to move ahead 2-1. The homer was the first of the season for Inscoe.
The 49ers tied things at 2-2 in the top of the third after a double played one run.
Madison Inscoe's evening in the circle was complete after the third inning. She tallied two strikeouts in her three frames of work. Aisha Weixlmann entered the circle in the top of the fourth and inevitably took the loss.
Charlotte plated two in the top of the fourth after a sacrifice fly and a double allowed runners to score.
With one out in the bottom of the fourth, junior Hannah Goodwin doubled to right field to record her 96th career hit, she later tacked on the 97th of her tenure in the sixth.
With one out in the top of the fifth, NC State brought in Rylee Wyman to pitch. She helped keep the 49ers scoreless in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings

The Pack will hit the road for its fourth conference series of the year this weekend, as the Pack travels to Tallahassee, Fla., for a three-game set at 18th-ranked Florida State.

  • The series marks the 16th between the two teams and Thursday will mark the 57th all-time meeting.
  • The Seminoles have won nine of the last ten meetings with the lone win for the Pack occurring in 2021 -- Pack defeated then #6 FSU 5-2 in Tallahassee to mark the first ranked road win in program history.
  • The Pack also defeated the Seminoles in the 2006 ACC Tournament Championship game to claim the program's first title since its inaugural season in 2004.

The NC State softball team fell to No. 18 Florida State, 8-6, after a walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh ended things.

There were three lead changes throughout the evening.

#18 FSU 8, NC State 6
How it Happened

  • FSU plated one in the bottom of the second after an RBI double to centerfield. The Pack gave up two hits in the frame, but held the Seminoles to just one run scored.
  • Bats were on fire for the Wolfpack in the top of the third after the Seminoles put two outs on the board. Michele Tarpey led off the frame with a single down the right line and Kaylee Lambrecht walked to have two on base. FSU got the next two batters out, but that was all it took for NC State to find a spark. Taylor Ensley doubled to right field to bring Tarpey and Lambrecht home. With the 2-1 lead, Amanda Hasler recorded a single of her own to bring Ensley home. Madison Inscoe was the final batter for the Wolfpack to record a hit in the third she doubled to left center and brought Hasler home to increase the lead to three. The Pack ended the frame with four runs on four hits and the 4-1 lead.
  • Florida State added one run in the bottom of the third after an RBI single from Kalei Harding.
  • The Seminoles took the lead in the bottom of the fourth after scoring four runs on four hits. The Pack brought in a pitching change after Inscoe faced seven batters AIsha Weixlmann entered in relief. FSU held a 6-4 advantage heading into the fifth.
  • Junior Hannah Goodwin came in clutch in the top of the sixth as she drilled a rocket past the centerfield wall to bring Inscoe home with her. The homer was her fourth of the season and marked the 98th hit of her career. The Pack finished the top half of the sixth tied, 6-6, with the Seminoles
  • The Pack held the Seminoles scoreless in the bottom half of the sixth and ended the frame with a 4-6-3 double play.
  • NC State was unable to score to take the lead in the top of the seventh. With one out in the bottom half of the frame, Isa Torres hit a two run, walk off home run to end the game with the Seminoles on top, 8-6.
  • The Pack had four pitchers enter the circle. Inscoe and Weixlmann each tallied two strikeouts.
  • Goins, Inscoe, and Taylor Ensley all recorded two hits throughout the evening to lead the Pack offensively. Goodwin and Taylor Ensley each had two RBI's.

#18 FSU 8, NC State 0 (Five Innings)
How it Happened

  • Junior Taylor Ensley recorded the first hit of the evening as she singled up the middle in the top of the first. Sophomore Amanda Hasler was hit by the first pitch thrown her way, allowing her to head to first base while Ensley headed to second. The Noles left the two stranded on base and grabbed the final out to stop the Pack from reaching home.
  • Kalei Harding drilled a two run homer in the bottom of the first to give the Seminoles a 2-0 lead.
  • The Seminoles plated two more in the bottom of the second after a single by Jaysoni Beachum brought two home. With Florida State holding a 4-0 lead and two outs on the board, Rylee Wyman entered the circle for the Pack.
  • FSU scored a fifth run in the bottom of the third after a sacrifice fly allowed Madi Frey to reach home.
  • The top of the fifth was absolute chaos for the Pack. Kaylee Lmabrecht led off the inning with a single to center field. MaKayla Marbury pinch hit for Alaina Smith and started the chaos. Marbury hit an infield single with a 2-1 count that was called foul and forced her back into the batter's box. She then drilled a double down the left line that was also ruled foul before she hit a single through the left side that got her on base. With two on base and no outs, Florida State brought in a pitching change in hopes of ending the chaos. Tori Ensley singled to left center with a 1-1 count to load the bases for her sister Taylor. The older of the two Ensley's struck out swinging to bring up the first out of the frame. The Seminoles would get the next two batter's out and leave three stranded.
  • With two on base and one out in the bottom half of the fifth, Kennedy Harp hit a three-run, walk-off home run to end the game with FSU on top 8-0.
  • Madison Inscoe started in the circle for NC State and pitched 1.2 innings. Rylee Wyman pitched the final 2.2 innings for the Wolfpack.
  • Six members of the Pack recorded a hit in the outing, including Hannah Goodwin who recorded a double to mark her 100th career hit in the top of the fourth.

The loss moves the Pack to 18-16 overall, 1-11 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

#18 Florida State 8, NC State 5
How it Happened
  • Hannah Goodwin was the first member of the Pack to reach base as she reached on an error in the top of the second by FSU. She was left stranded as the Seminoles picked up the final two outs of the frame.
  • The two teams battled back-and-forth but the Noles scored first. In the bottom of the second, a sacrifice fly brought one home for Florida State.
  • Florida State added three more runs to the board in the bottom of the third after back-to-back singles and an error allowed runners to score.
  • Sophomore Amanda Hasler recorded her third hit of the series in the top of the fourth after she doubled to right-center field. Madison Inscoe would then be hit by a pitch, allowing her to take first. With Goodwin at the plate, Hasler and Inscoe would both advance to the next base on a wild pitch. Nadia Sykes then entered to pinch run for Inscoe at second. With a 2-2 count, the junior slapped a ball toward third base allowing Hasler to score, but chaos ensued. After Goodwin reached first, the Seminoles infield still had possession of the ball and started a run down trying to get Sykes out. After several attempts, Sykes slid back to second and was ruled safe, but Goodwin also slid to second. Goodwin was tagged out on the play by the Noles third baseman to bring up the second out of the frame. The Pack finished the inning with a run on the board, but still trailing the Noles by three.
  • Florida State added two more runs in the bottom half of the fourth after Kalei Harding hit a two-run homer. The Seminoles would record another two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead to seven.
  • The Pack picked up two freebies in the top of the sixth after the Seminoles walked both Tori Ensley and Inscoe. The two were left stranded at the end of the frame.
  • Freshman Carly Maxton entered to pitch in the bottom of the sixth and struck out the first batter she faced. She would later end the inning with another strikeout and keep the Noles off the scoreboard.
  • Sophomore Ellie Goins led off the seventh inning with a solo bomb to left-center field to minimize the Seminoles lead to six. Freshman Raylee Leiman and Katie Raper would then be walked, putting runners on first and second for the Pack. With two outs on the board and two on, Taylor Ensley drilled a first-pitch home run to left-center field to increase the run total for the Pack to five.
  • Aisha Weixlmann started in the circle for NC State and picked up three strikeouts in her 2.2 innings.
  • Three members of the Pack recorded a hit in the outing Goins, Taylor Ensley, and Amanda Hasler.

How it Happened

  • Elon plated one in the top of the third after a single to right center field by Allee Seering to take the lead.
  • In the bottom of the third with one out and two on, sophomore Madison Inscoe hit her second double of the season to bring two home and give NC State the lead, 2-1.
  • Sophomore Rylee Wyman pitched the first three innings for the Wolfpack and picked up two strikeouts in her time in the circle.
  • Madison Inscoe pitched the top of the fourth inning. Gabi Schaal recorded a solo home run to tie the game two-all.
  • The Pack responded in the bottom of the fourth by scoring 10 runs after two homers, three singles, two doubles, and five walks.
  • With one on base and no outs, MaKayla Marbury entered the lineup as a pinch hitter. She drilled a rocket to left centerfield to tally her eighth homer of the season. The two run bomb pushed the Pack in front, 4-2. Tori Ensley then singled to left field and Taylor Ensley doubled to right field to have two on with no outs. After the Phoenix grabbed the first out, Madison Inscoe stepped into the batter's box and drilled a three-run homer to center field to push NC State ahead, 7-2. The Wolfpack added two more runs after a stolen base, fielder's choice, and two singles allowed runners to score. The Pack ended the frame with a 12-2 lead over the Phoenix.
  • The Pack faced five Elon pitcher's in the bottom of the fourth inning, who gave up a combined five walks, six hits, and 10 runs.
  • Kayla Fekel pitched the top of the fifth for NC State and picked up three strikeouts.
  • The Pack finished the outing with 12 runs scored on seven hits and had nine batters walked. Tori Ensley, Taylor Ensley, and Madison Inscoe all recorded two hits in the outing to lead the Pack offensively Inscoe also tallied five RBI's.
  • Inscoe was credited with the win to move her to 6-7 on the season from the circle. Fekel led the pitching staff with three strikeouts in her one inning pitched.
  • The win marked the third over the Phoenix this season.

Game one is set for Friday, April 5 at 6pm and the final game of the series will be played on Sunday, April 7 at 5pm. Game one and two will be streamed on ACCNX -- Sunday's game will be broadcast on ACC Network.

Fans parking before 5pm on Friday will need to utilize the virtual parking permit to park on campus.
