The NC State softball team pushed its winning streak to seven games after defeating both Elon and Campbell in the final two games of The Marucci Classic Sunday afternoon at Dail Softball Stadium.

The first 11 games this season has seen the Wolfpack go 8-3, marking the best start to a season since 2022. In her first season as the head coach, Lindsay Leftwich has begun her career setting the mark for best start for a head coach in their first season leading the Wolfpack.

How it Happened

  • Aisha Weixlmann started in the circle for the Wolfpack and struck out the first two batters faced.
  • Kaylee Lambrecht led off with a walk in the bottom half of the first. Amanda Hasler stepped into the box and swung on the first pitch, sending a bomb to left centerfield. The homer was her first of the season and put the Pack on the board 2-0. With two outs and no one on, MaKayla Marbury drilled a ball to right center to push NC State ahead 3-0.
  • NC State saw three consecutive batters single in the bottom half of the second (Michele Tarpey, Hannah Goodwin, Tori Ensley), but no runs added to the board.
  • The Pack scored two more in the bottom of the third after two singles allowed runners to score.
  • The Phoenix scored a three-run homer in the top of the fourth to minimize the deficit to two, but NC State responded in the bottom half of the inning with a bomb from Hasler and a single from Marbury that brought a runner home.
  • Weixlmann exited the circle in the top of the fifth with one out. She finished the outing with eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched. Rylee Wymann entered as relief.
  • Four members of the Pack recorded two hits in the outing Amanda Hasler, MaKayla Marbury, Tori Ensley, Michele Tarpey.

How it Happened

  • The Camels wasted no time taking the 1-0 lead, as an error allowed Lindsay Lumsden to score.
  • The Wolfpack responded in the bottom half of the opening frame with a sacrifice fly that allowed Amanda Hasler to score, tying the game one-all.
  • With two on base and no outs, Hannah Goodwin stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the second. She reached first on a fielder's choice and Taylor Ensley managed to reach home to push the Pack in front, 2-1
  • The two teams went scoreless through the fourth. The top of the fifth saw Campbell score its final run of the evening after a single brought a runner home.
  • The Wolfpack responded in the bottom half of the inning as freshman Tia Beckham singled, later advancing to second on the throw by the Camels. Her hit allowed Nadia Sykes and MaKayla Marbury to score, pushing the Pack lead to two.
  • NC State scored its fifth and final run of the evening after a solo bomb by Taylor Ensley flew over the centerfield wall in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Madison Inscoe started in the circle for the Wolfpack and recorded four strikeouts in four innings pitched. Carly Maxton faced two batters in the top of the fifth before Rylee Wyman entered. Wyman pitched 2.1 innings and picked up four strikeouts, in addition to the win.
  • Seven members of the Pack recorded a hit in the outing with the Camels Amanda Hasler, MaKayla Marbury, and Taylor Ensley all recorded two hits each. Marbury also led the team with three stolen bases.
  • NC State recorded a total of six stolen bases, a mark that ties for second most in a single game in program history.
Next Up
The Pack will remain in Raleigh to prepare for the Wolfpack Classic. Play will begin on Friday Feb. 23 and wrap up on Sunday Feb. 25.

The NC State softball team is set to host Iona, UAlbany, Cleveland State, and App State for the 2024 Wolfpack Classic.

The Pack will play its first game at 2:30pm on Friday Feb. 23 against Iona before wrapping up play at 2:30pm on Sunday Feb. 25 against App State.

Fans attending games prior to 5pm on Friday, will need to use the virtual parking permit. Only games that feature NC State will be ticketed and tickets are available for purchase

Series History with Iona
Friday marks the first ever meeting between the two programs.

Series History with Albany (NC State Leads 1-0)
Friday will be the second meeting for the two programs -- the initial meeting occurred 2014.
NC State won the first meeting 2-0 in Kissimmee, Fla.

Saturday will mark the first ever meeting between the two programs.

Series History with App St. (NC State Leads 6-1)
Saturday will be the eighth meeting between the Mountaineers and Wolfpack; it will be just the third meeting in Raleigh. NC State has won the last five outings.
In the last meeting (2015), the Pack won 10-0 in five innings.
The Pack has scored as many as 10 runs and as few as two.

The NC State softball team won its eighth-straight game on Friday evening, by knocking off Albany with a 9-0 shutout in five innings.

The shutout was the first of the season for the Wolfpack.

How it Happened
  • Aisha Weixlmann started the contest with three shutdown frames, leading to the Pack's offense finding its stride in the bottom half of the third inning as NC State registered six runs to take a 6-0 lead.
  • The Wolfpack tabbed six hits in the home half of the third, three of which accounted for extra bases. Hannah Goodwin broke the ice for NC State, with her single that was awarded second base as a result of a fielding error bringing home a pair of runs to put the Pack on top 2-0 early. Immediately following Goodwin's spark, Makayla Marbury doubled the Wolfpack lead with a two-run home run to center field that drove home Goodwin and pushed the Pack's lead to 4-0. Two more runs came from a Taylor Ensley single and a RBI groundout from Kaylee Lambrecht, with NC State moving ahead 6-0 and jumping out to what would prove to be an insurmountable lead.
  • The bottom of the fourth saw two more runs get added to the board for the Wolfpack. With Gabi Wilson on base to pinch run for Hannah Goodwin, Marbury stepped up to the plate. She drilled her second ball of the evening over the outfield wall to put the Pack ahead 8-0. Michele Tarpey then singled to left field, and Alaina Smith entered to pinch run. Katie Raper stepped up to the plate as a pinch hitter and reached base on a fielding error by the Great Danes. Smith later scored to put NC State ahead 9-0.
  • Weixlmann pitched all five innings of the shutout and finished the evening with eight strikeouts. The shutout was the fourth of her career and second at NC State.

Next Up
The Wolfpack and Great Danes will meet once again on Saturday Feb. 24 at 8am before NC State meets with Cleveland State at 10:30am. Both games are set to be broadcast on ACCNX.

The NC State softball team remains unbeaten in Raleigh after defeating both UAlbany and Cleveland State in run rule fashion on Saturday morning. The ten-game winning streak is the longest since 2014 when the Pack won 14 straight.

The Pack combined for 13 first-inning runs scored between the two games, the most in a day this season.

How it Happened

  • The Pack saw a three up, three down opening frame.
  • NC State scored nine runs in the bottom of the first after going through the entire batting order once. The top three in the lineup MaKayla Marbury, Amanda Hasler, Taylor Ensley each hit a home run to help the Pack take a 9-0 lead. Marbury and Ensley each tallied three RBIs, while Hasler recorded one from her solo bomb.
  • Marbury drilled another homer in the bottom of the third, and Hasler followed suit to put NC State up 11-0.
  • The Great Danes added a run to the board after a single allowed a runner to score. The hit was the final of the contest for UAlbany.
  • Bailey Edwards hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth that allowed Ellie Goins to score the final run of the game for the Wolfpack.
  • Kayla Fekel pitched all five innings for NC State and recorded four strikeouts in the win.
  • Marbury led the team offensively after going 3-for-4. She recorded a triple and a home run in the outing. Hasler and Tori Ensley each recorded two hits.
NC State 10, Cleveland State 1 (5 inn.)
How it Happened

  • NC State continued the momentum from game one and jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. A single by Taylor Ensley allowed MaKayla Marbury to score to put the Pack up 1-0. With two on and two outs, Ellie Goins stepped up to the plate and drilled a ball past center field with a 2-2 count. The three-run homer was the first of the season for the sophomore. The Vikings also had two fielding errors in the bottom half of the first.
  • The Vikings got on the scoreboard in the top of the third after scoring on a passed ball. The Pack responded in the bottom half of the third after a triple by Hannah Goodwin allowed Nadia Sykes (pinch runner) to score. Michele Tarpey then hit a sacrifice fly to bring Goodwin home and put NC State up 6-1.
  • The Pack scored four more runs in the bottom of the fourth after two sac flies, a walk with bases loaded and a single.
  • Carly Maxton pitched 2.1 innings for the Pack and recorded one strikeout. Madison Inscoe entered the circle in the top of the third with one out. She was credited with the win after pitching 2.2 innings and recording one strikeout.
  • Goins led the Pack offensively in game two after going 3-for-3 on the afternoon. She finished the outing with five RBIs and a home run.

The Wolfpack returns to Dail Stadium for the final game of the Wolfpack Classic on Sunday Feb. 25 against App State. First pitch is slated for 2pm on ACCNX.

The NC State softball team is set to head east to Greenville for a midweek meeting with East Carolina on Wednesday Feb. 28. First pitch is set for 4pm and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+

Series History with ECU (NC State leads 15-9)
Wednesday marks the 25th meeting between the Wolfpack and the Pirates. The Pack has won three of the last five outings.
When playing in Greenville, NC State is 6-3.

The Pack has scored as many as 12 runs and as few as zero.

The NC State softball team defeated East Carolina 11-2 Wednesday evening at Mark E. Joyner Family Stadium to mark the program's 12th straight win and advance to 13-3 on the season.

The Pack hit six doubles in the outing to set a new single-game program record.

How it Happened
  • The Pack scored two runs in the top of the second after Tori Ensley doubled up the middle to bring Ellie Goins and Kaylee Lambrecht home.
  • Bat's were still hot in the third as Amanda Hasler led off the inning with a home run to push NC State ahead, 3-0. Taylor Ensley then doubled to left center and Hannah Goodwin was walked with no outs. Michele Tarpey stepped into the batter's box and doubled down the left line to bring Ensley home. With two outs, Lambrecht stepped up to the plate for her second appearance. She hit another double to left center, allowing Goodwin and Tarpey to score, putting NC State ahead 6-0. The Pack scored a fifth run before the Pirates ended the scoring run.
  • The Pack added two more runs in the fourth inning after Goodwin hit her second homer of the season.
  • Taylor Ensley recorded her third double of the evening in her third at bat. The mark sets a career high for most doubles in a single game. The hit allowed one to score, putting NC State up 10-0.
  • The Pirates managed to score two in the bottom of the fifth after a single allowed two to score.
  • Madison Inscoe pitched all five innings for the Pack and finished with three strikeouts. The win marks her third of the season.
  • Six members of the Pack recorded a hit in the outing, with three recording two hits (Amanda Hasler, Kaylee Lambrecht, Tori Ensley) and one recording three (Taylor Ensley).

Next Up
The Wolfpack will head south to Clemson for the 2024 conference opener. Play against the Tigers begins on Friday March 1 at 6pm.
