Last home men's tennis match of the season against Duke today at 12:00 Noon. If you have never been to an NC State tennis match, this would be a great one to come to. Should be a big crowd and great atmosphere, and there's a lot at stake in this match. There's no home baseball game today, so you can park in the lots behind the baseball stadium which are right beside the tennis facility.

We are currently tied with Duke in the conference standings with a 9-2 record. Would be huge to beat them today, and lock up the 3rd seed in the tournament.

Looks like we'll be the #3 seed in the ACC tournament this next weekend. The top 4 seeds get a double bye all the way to the quarterfinals on Friday. The tournament is held at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, and I think it costs $10 per day for an all day pass to attend.

They seem to be playing their best tennis of the year right now. I think they actually have a decent shot of winning the whole thing. They played the top seed, Uva, close on the road, only losing 3-4. They also played #2 seed Wake Forest fairly close, in a 2-4 loss on the road.

There's been quite a turnaround in the men's tennis program over the last 5 years. Just looking at the history in our series versus Duke on GoPack, for example, we now have a 3-19 record against them going back to 2002. But those 3 wins have come since the 2019 season, and we've now won 3 of the last 5 versus them.

A similar story in the series history vs unc. We are 6-24 versus them going back to 1999. But we've also beaten unc 3 of the last 5 meetings.

Confirmed that the men's team is the #3 seed for the ACC Tournament at Cary Tennis Park. Their quarterfinal match is slated for 12:30pm on Friday, April 19.

You don't have to purchase tickets online for the tournament. I went last year, and you can buy the ticket as you walk in to the complex. Parking is free. In addition to the parking at Cary Tennis Park, there is parking available right across the street at Green Hope Elementary School.

I like how this potential semifinal match with Wake Forest might shape up. While we lost to them in an away match 2-4 about two weeks ago, it was a relatively close contest. And Wake Forest just lost a home match (in Winston-Salem) to Duke a few days ago by a score of 1-4. While we just beat Duke 4-2 yesterday.

I think we are currently playing our best tennis of the season and might be playing better than Wake right now, and could definitely beat them and make it to the final.

And for context, making the final would be quite significant...because we've only won 2 ACC titles in the history of the program (in 1978 and 1979). I don't know how long they've had the tournament, but it may only be for the last few decades (with the champion determined from the regular season until at least 1978) . So we may not have made a final in the men's ACC tournament yet.

10-2 conference record sets a program record for number of ACC wins in a season:

https://instagr.am/p/C5yUcCggUVu

Per GoPack, it was the unc match that set the attendance record, and there was an attendance of 331 at the Duke match. Another metric to show that this program is making great strides.

In the latest national rankings released today, NC State men's tennis team is now ranked #11 in the nation. This is huge...now on the doorstep of the top 10. As I mentioned in the women's thread, this is important because in the NCAA Tournament if you are one of the top 16 seeds you get to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament at your home courts.

Their likely opponent in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament, FSU, is currently ranked #17 in the country. UVa is #2, Wake Forest #7, and Duke #12. That quarterfinal match will be huge for the purposes of NCAA seeding. We beat FSU 4-3 on the road in the regular season, so this won't be an easy match. Hopefully with the advantage of a home crowd at Cary Tennis Park we can get the win.

I'm taking a half day off work tomorrow to go to Cary Tennis Park to see the men (12:30) and women play (3:30). If anyone else can make it out, I highly recommend it. It's a beautiful facility, will be great weather, should be a good atmosphere/crowd, and the support of our fans will help our teams win.

It's only $10 for an all day pass, and you should be able to buy the ticket at the entrance (as was the case last year).

FSU taking it to #2 seed and #7 nationally ranked Wake Forest in the men's semifinals right now. FSU up 2-0 right now and leading in 3 of the unfinished singles matches. Looks like FSU is going to win. Shows that the Wolfpack men's team didn't play that bad in the quarterfinals. FSU is just really hot right now.

Update: Wake Forest has come back and looks like they will tie it up at 3-3, and will come down to #3 singles, with that match just now starting the 3rd set.

No. 6 seed Florida State upset No. 2 seed Wake Forest, 4-3, staving off a three-point comeback from the Demon Deacons. The Seminoles grabbed the early 1-0 lead after clinching the doubles point, and quickly took a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win from Alex Bulte on Court 6 over WF's Jamieson Nathan. FSU's No. 5 Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc pushed the lead to 3-0 with a straight-set 7-5, 6-4, win over No. 31 Fillippo Moroni.

With a pair of Demon Deacons leading in the third set on Courts 4 and 5, Matt Thompson on Court 3 gave Wake Forest a fighting chance by winning a tiebreaker in the second set, 7-6 (7-4). No. 111 Luciano Tacchi put the Deacs' first point on the board with a three-set, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over FSU's Youcef Rihane on Court 4, while Wake's Holden Koons cut into the lead to make it 3-2 with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 comeback victory over Josh Dous-Karpenschif on Court 5. DK Suresh Ekambaram tied it up 3-3 for Wake Forest with a 1-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 comeback victory over Loris Pourroy.

Thompson's comeback fell just short on Court 3, as FSU's Jamie Connel clinched the match for the Seminoles, 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, to secure his team's spot in the championship match.
