Fairly dominant win over the cheats. Probably would have been a 5-2 or 6-1 win if they would have played out the final 3 matches.

For those who haven't been to a college tennis match, the atmosphere/crowd can get a little raucous at these if you have a decent sized crowd, and especially in rivalry matches like us versus unc or duke. I was there and would estimate there were around 300-350 people at this match tonight, which is a very large crowd for college tennis. There were a few obnoxious unc fans and several players and staff on the unc team up in the stands (where they are not supposed to be) getting very loud. But they quieted down a lot as the singles matches went on and they could see they were going to lose.

No. 16 NC State men's tennis knocked off in-state foe and 23rd-ranked North Carolina on Friday night at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center, with the Wolfpack taking a 4-0 sweep and winning its second-straight over the Tar Heels.

Friday marked just the second time in program history that NC State has swept North Carolina, with the back-to-back wins serving as the first time the Wolfpack have won consecutive matches against the Tar Heels since winning four straight from 1978-81.

The Pack got moving quickly as NC State took the doubles point to jump ahead of the Tar Heels at 1-0, picking up a pair of 6-3 victories from the 65th-ranked duo of Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek as well as the pairing of Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli.

Both the team of Shick and Van Sambeek plus Catry and Staeheli got off to fast starts in their respective matches, distancing themselves early and creating what proved to be insurmountable leads.

Shick and Van Sambeek knocked off North Carolina's Will Peters and Karl Poling, while Catry and Staeheli defeated Patrick Schoen and Peter Murphy. The 72nd-ranked doubles pairing of Joseph Wayand and Martin Borisiouk saw their match against No. 32 Benjamin Kittay and Phillip Jordan go unfinished, with Wayand and Borisiouk trailing 5-4 as the Pack clinched the doubles portion of the match.

No. 51 Shick, the reigning ACC Player of the Week, carried his momentum from doubles into singles play, where he gave NC State its second singles win with a 6-4, 6-4; defeat of UNC's No. 122 Phillip Jordan.
Damien Salvestre and Jakub Katuch each had strong showings for the Wolfpack in singles as well, with Salvestre putting NC State ahead 2-0 after a 6-3, 6-4; victory over Peters. Just after Shick's win over Jordan put the Pack on top 3-0, Katuch clinched the match for the Wolfpack with a 6-3, 6-3; victory over Anuj Watane, continuing a strong string of performances after he was awarded ACC Freshman of the Week for the first time of his career on Tuesday.

The Pack now moves onto its regular-season finale on Sunday afternoon, as NC State hosts Duke on Apr. 14 in a noon tilt against the Blue Devils.
