No. 16 NC State men's tennis took a 7-0 win over Boston College Sunday Mar. 31 at home in Raleigh. After falling short to No. 6 Wake Forest, Friday night the Pack were looking to come back in today's match.
Statement from Head Coach Kyle Spencer " Great win for the boys today, we were pretty comprehensive in pretty much all the spots. Happy we could honor our athetic trainer Eric today, we played this match for him. We are looking forward to whats coming up next on the road for Miami, and Florida State."
Prior to the start of the match, the Pack recognized athletic trainer Eric Bornholdt in honor of National athletic trainer month. Eric has been working with NC State men's tennis for four years now and has had a lasting impact on the lives of so many student- athletes. In a statement from head coach Kyle Spencer "Eric has done an unbeliveable job this year, keeping our guys healthy. He spends a lot of hours with the team, and we are really appreciative for him."
The Pack settled into the competition in doubles play feeling the pressure from the Eagles . On court five juniors
Braden Shick and
Fons Van Sambeek fought a back and forth battle against there was a back and forth battle against Juan Jose Bianchi and Matthew Overdale (BC). The duo pushed on taking the match 6-4, giving the Pack a lead in doubles play.

Braden Shick this season in doubles: "Me and Braden know each other very well and are good friends both on and off the court, I think that is a key to our success. We also played a lot of great matches last year, so even though I started off the season with Robin, Braden and I have been able to make the adjustments and continue to train hard and it's really paid off."
On court three
Damien Salvestre and Joe Wayand played a close match against Matt Campbell and Caleb Saltz (BC) 6-4. The pair followed the lead on court five and helped the Pack clinch the doubles point against the Eagles.
On court one
Robin Catry and Luca Staheli dropped five games to the Eagles. Playing a 3-5 match before their match was eventually abandoned with wins on courts three and five.
After clinching the doubles point, the Pack shook off the nerves in singles play with all courts taking the first set in singles. On court two No. 67
Braden Shick got an early jump on Caleb Saltz, taking the first set 6-1.
Maintaining momentum Shick only gave up two matches for a quick one two match. The final score on court two was 6-1, 6-2 to give the Pack the first point in singles play. On court five Junior
Damien Salvestre challenged Gao (BC) creating a 6-2 gap in the first set. After Gao took one game in the second set, Salvestre pushed for the win in a 6-1 second set giving the Pack its second point on the board in singles play.
On court six, junior Joe Wayand took the lead against Campbell (BC) with a 6-4 first set. Wayand breaking away he claimed the second set 6-2. JJ Bianchi (BC) came out aggressive in the first set on court one against No. 46
Robin Catry. Catry dropped the first three games against Bianchi 4-1 giving Boston College a glimpse of hope to get on the board. Catry, battling it out, came back with a huge 6-4 win in the first set.
Fons Van Sambeek played a tense first set against Kasten winning the set 7-5. Refusing to budge in the second set, Van Sambeek swept Kasten in the second set 6-0 to put the fifth point on the board for the Pack.
Left on courts one, and three were
Robin Catry and
Luca Staeheli. Staeheli in a tough second set against Jake Vassel was brought to six games all in the second set. Leading in the tiebreaker, Staehli came out on top 6-3, 7-6 (7-2). Catry dropping the second set was brought to the third where he brought the heat in a third set tiebreaker. Carty turned around the match with a (10-2) third set tiebreaker preserving the Pack's five game sweep streak over Boston College!

Robin Catry on getting the win for the Pack in the third set: "I'm very happy to help the team in the best way I can, I brought the energy and the guys pushed through for me cause I went down in the second set. So to come out with the right energy for the tiebreaker was key."
